I'm travelling from ALB to IAD with United and then from IAD to LAX with Virgin America. My flight time from ALB has changed giving me only 50 minutes to make the connection. (I only have hand baggage.) Is this enough time and do I have to check in at a transfer desk in the terminal at IAD?

It is possible. You can check in for your Virgin America flight online before you leave Albany. If you do that then all you have to do at IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I'm coming from ATL to IAD then to London. They are separate flights. Can I check in in ATL for my London flight or will I have to go through security again. (These are not connecting flights- separate tickets)

    What airlines are you flying?

I have a UA flight this summer from Mexico to IAD and on to Brussels (so two international flights with the same airline). The transfer time seems to be very short: 80 minutes. I understand I need to go through customs and collect my luggage. Is this connection even possible?

It's possible but it depends on everything going perfectly to make it.

I am flying from Dubai DXB to IAD with Emirates Airlines, and then I have an 8 hour layover where I then take Avianca to El Salvador. I believe I'll have to exit the terminal area due to using two separate airlines, but I am wondering if I'll be able to check in once I have all my luggage. If not, what should I do with this time?

Once you clear US Immigration and customs after you arrive from Dubai, you will already be outside the secure area with your bags. You just have to take them to the Avianca counter (when it opens, don't know if it will be open yet when you arrive), re-check your bags, and go through security. There's not much to do - I suggest bringing a good book.

connecting onwards to charleston from dublin is 1 hr 30 mins sufficient both ways flying Aer Lingus and partner carrier?

Yes, you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin so all you have to do in IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Be aware that United Express flies to 2 different Charlestons from IAD. Make sure you go to the gate for the right one.

I am going to London via IAD. I will have about and 1:25 min layover...will this be enough time for my luggage to transfer and make the connecting flight?

If both tickets are on the same reservation and the first flight is domestic, yes, it is enough time.

I will be arriving in IAD at 16:19 from SDF (Louisville). My departure flight to FRA is at 17:10. I just have 45min+ layover. Both are United Flights. Will there be enough time to catch the flight?

Yes, that is enough time as long as your flight from Louisville is on-time.

Flying IND-IAD-VIE (United out of IND, connecting to Austrian Air for the IAD-VIE leg). Looking at my itinerary, I have 55 minutes from my expected landing at IAD to board the VIE flight. Can I make it? Does my checked bag have a shot at making it, too?

    Yes, that is possible.

Thanks for the super-quick reply. I've been trying to look to see if I could figure out which terminal I'll land at, and which one I'll depart from. It looks as though I'll have to move from one to another, but glad to know that it seems possible.

IAD only has one terminal. All gates are connected inside security.

I am flying United Airlines from DTW (Detroit) to IAD with just 45 minutes connecting flight to London Heathrow. Is that enough time? It used to be a 2 .15 hours connecting flight but it has changed the last time I checked reservation.

As long as your flight from Detroit is on-time you'll be OK. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on the C/D concourse.

Hi, I am changing aircrafts at IAD from United to Aviance AV 583. If all goes to plan I have 1hr10min to change aircrafts. Q1. Is this enough time? Q2. Do I have to collect my luggage and check in again? Q3. Do I have to go through US border control despite just being in transfer? Many thanks

Where are you flying into IAD from?

I'm flying into IAD from Manchester (UK) on United Airlines flight UA101, today it actually says I have 1:55h connection (how strange). Q1. Is this enough time? Q2. Do I have to collect my luggage and check in again? Q3. Do I have to go through US border control despite just being in transfer? Thanks for your help.

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. You should have just enough time.

Hi I am travelling from the UK to New Orleans via Washington. United give a connection time between flights of 1 hour 31 mins. Will this be enough time?

That's just enough time if everything goes perfectly.

I am looking at booking tickets from Nashville to Zurich with a stop in IAD. Would a 1 hr 46 min layover be enough time to recheck bags and go through everything? I'm assuming the flight from Nashville will arrive far away from the international terminal.

There is no separate international terminal and you do not have to recheck your bags as long as everything is on the same reservation. There is no US customs when leaving the US. That is enough time.

I am traveling from DFW to Vienna in late June and have a connection through IAD. I only have one hour to make my connection from the DFW united flight to the Austrian Airlines vienna flight. Will I have enough time to make the connection?

Yes, that should be enough time. Your DFW flight will likely arrive on the C/D concourse and your Austrian flight will depart from Concourse B. You will have to take the mobile lounge or Aerotrain to Concourse B.

CLT - IDH-ADH -MAA . My transit is in Dullas I hear that I need to travel in shuttle from one terminal to other. How long will it take..pls explain

There is no such airport as "IDH" I assume you mean IAD. ADH is a remote airfield in Aldan, Russia. I assume you do not mean that. Where are you flying from Dulles and what airlines are you flying? IAD only has one terminal.

HI - UK citizen travelling from London to Orlando via IAD with a scheduled transfer time of 1h 40m - both legs on United - will this be sufficient time ? Thanks

Yes, that should be just enough time. You will arrive in the C/D concourse, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, in the same concourse.

    Thank you
