Is 1 hour and 30 mins enough time for a layover in IAD?

Yes, that should barely be enough time.

  • IAD transit flight CUN-IAD-GVA

Hi am looking at international flight with united CUN-IAD-GVA transit time is 1h10 minutes. I am traveling on a foreign passport with a 9 year old and will probably have checked bags. 1h 10 minutes seems short to me is this possible? If I miss the flight and need to take the one the next day, will United provide me with accomodations? THanks in advance!

Yes, 1 hr 10 minutes is well below the minimum connection time for such a connection (90 minutes). I would avoid booking that. United likely would not provide you with a hotel if you miss your connection.

I am arriving from Ottawa, Canada via UNITED EXPRESS/TRANS STATES at 8:33 am and have a connection to Charleston via UNITED EXPRESS/MESA. Can someone please let me know which terminal I have to go to get my connected flight and how do I can go there via shuttle or etc...thanks

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Ottawa. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will likely arrive in concourse A and depart from concourse C or D. A is connected to C and D by the AeroTrain and Mobile Lounge inside security.

I am flying from SFO to DUBAI w/ United but I have a connecting flight at IAD. Do I have to go through security again once I land at IAD to catch my next plane??? I have abour 2 hrs and 55 minutes before my next flight. Pls advice...

No, on your way to Dubai you will not have to go through security in IAD. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on the C/D concourse. You should have plenty of time.

Thanks! I was also wondering if I were to check in a luggage in SFO... do I have to claim it at IAD??? OR... will it be transferred for me so that I can just go straight to my departure gate to my connecting flight to Dubai?

It will be transferred for you. Literally all you have to do in IAD is walk from one gate to another.

  • 1 hrs 25 minutes connecting time & customs on United airlines

I fly London to IAD arriving at 3:25PM on United. I have a connecting United flight to Charlotte with an one hour 25 min connecting time. Is that enough time to go thru customs? I then fly Charlotte to Myrtle Beach, SC. but have lots of time on that portion of the trip. I am worried about the IAD connection to Charlotte.

It is 5 minutes below the recommended International to Domestic connection time, but if both flights are on United and your flight from London is on-time, I think you can make it.

How much time should I plan between flights to go through customs, collect bags and get to domestic flight? We are US citizens and flights will be on South African Airways and United.

90 minutes if your tickets are purchased on the same reservation. 2.5 hours if you're purchasing two separate tickets.

  • Cancun to Johannesburg with 1 hour 20 minute layover in IAD

Hello! I know this is going to be tight, but is it possible? I land in IAD from Cancun on United. I have Global Entry and will not have to wait for any checked bags. Do you think I can land in Concourse C, go through immigration, and then get back through security to catch a flight on South African Airways at Concourse B, all in 1 hour and 20 minutes? I assume after going though immigration I have to go through security again right?

Without checked bags and with Gloal Entry I do think it is possible. Obviously very little time to spare if the Cancun flight is delayed though.

I have one hour to get from my United gate (unclear if it's C or D at this point) to Brussels Airlines (gate B). I only have carry-on luggage. Possible?

Yes, that should be possible. The Aerotrain or Mobile Lounge only takes about 10 minutes.

I am thinking about purchasing ticket for connected from Mesa airline(RDU-IAD) to United(international line) at Dulles airport. But connecting time is just an hour (1 hr 3 min). Is it enough time to move inside of airport? Thanks!

Yes, that is enough time. All United gates at IAD are connected inside security and both will be on the C/D concourse. All you have to do is walk from your arrival to your departure gate.

I arrive at IAD at 4:30 PM on a United Airlines flight (coming from Indianapolis). I depart IAD for London 2 hours later at 6:30 PM on a British Airways flight. I am a U.S. Citizen and booked both of these legs separately. 1.) Is 2 hours enough time to layover? 2.) When I leave Indianapolis I technically do not need to present my passport as my final destination is technically domestic, IAD. However once I arrive a IAD will I have to go through security again this time showing my passport as I will now be traveling internationally (to London)? 3.) As for checked bags- I am not planning on checking bags in Indianapolis.

Someone from British Airways will have to see your passport for you to check in for your flight to London. You may be able to get your boarding pass inside security from the British Airways gate. They will also check your passport when you board your flight to London.

I have a return flight home from Zurich, Switzerland (ZRH) to Greenville/ Spartanburg (GSP) with a layover of 1 hr. 50 min. At Dulles (IAD). Will this be enough time to go through customs? Flight is on a Tuesday.

Yes, that should be enough time.

I have a flight from Harrisburg to Toronto with a connexion in IAD, my connection time is 1 hour 15 minutes, do i need to pick up my luggage in Washington? will it be enough time? I am spanish, so would i need to pass inmigration again? (i will arrive to JFK one week before) thank you in advance

No, you will not have to claim your luggage or go through Immigration. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All gates are connected inside security. You will go through Canadian immigration when you get to Toronto.

    Thank u so much.

  • 1 HR layover

I'm flying from Orlando MCO to Copenhagen, but will exactly have one hour layover in Dulles Washington assuming no delays. I'll be flying with the United Airlines from MCO to Dulles Wash, and fly with Airbus industry A340-300. Is this enough time to transfer in between flights?

*I am European by the way, leaving the United States.

That should be enough time. You will have to take the AeroTrain from concourse C or D where you will arrive to concourse B where your SAS flight to Copenhagen will depart. You will not have to go through security or do anything with your baggage.

i arrive today at 1555 in IAD from frankfurt and need to catch a flight to mexico city at 1715 from IAD. bought the tickets separately so need to get luggage checked back in, is this feasible ?

No, that is not feasible. You should have not bought this connection.

  • Please can someone tell me where I would clear customs

I am flying from LHR to Tyson Mcghee airport via\ Dulles. Where would I clear customs on the return flight (Tyson McGhee to Dulles then to London) Would I go through customs at Tyson Mcghee or Dulles airport? Also I have a 1 hour and 50 minute layover in Dulles coming back to London. Is this enough time? My flights are UA3385 and UA 918 flying 23 june.Thank you in advance.

On your flight to London you will only go through UK Immigration when you get to London. There is no such thing as US Exit Immigration or customs. All you have to do in Dulles on your way to London is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All gates at Dulles are connected inside security.

Thank you ZAP. So what happens when I go to Tyson Mcghee airport, what do I have to do/where do I go? (Have not flown before!). Also please could you tell me if 2 and a half hours layover in Dulles airport on outgoing flight (London to Dulles to Tyson Mcghee) qill be long enough for me to get connecting flight after going through customs/immigration? Flights LH 9266 9 June 16.20 then flight LH9312 at 22.00? Would the gates be close together? Many thanks in advance

When you arrive in Knoxville from London you will just go to the baggage claim, get your bags, and walk out the door. When you arrive at the Knoxville airport for your trip to London, you will just go to the United check-in counter to check your bags and get your boarding passes, then go through security. Yes, you should have enough time for your connections. Just follow signs at Dulles between your arrival and departing gates.

Thank you very much ZAP. Much appreciated!

Please could you tell me if I have to collect my luggage at Washington on my outward flight and recheck it in again before I get on the plane to Knoxville or will my baggage go straight from London to Knoxville? I have phoned the airlines and have been told two different things!
