    Sep 27, 2015
Hi, i have a united flight from san diego to dulles arriving 15:51, and I need to catch an aerlingus flight to dublin at 17:20 (1 :29 mins layover) i have 1 checked bag, will I make it on time to the 2nd flight? do i need to go through customs? do I need to recheck bag? Thnk you@

there is no US customs when leaving the US. If both tickets are on the same reservation you will not have to claim your bag. You have enough time.

  • How much time do I need?

If I arrive at Dulles Airport at 9pm for a 10:15pm flight from courcourse D (no checked baggage and no stopping at gate agent to get ticket) will that give me enough time to go through security and also get to my gate? I have such a short window :(

Yes. that should be plenty of time.

Arriving at Concourse Z and departing from Concourse D. How do I get from Z to D. Daughter recently made the same connection and had to go through security again. Thanks.

You can take the mobile lounge or AeroTrain from Z to D without having to go through security.

I have a 50 minute window arriving from Norfolk VA on UA 4013, and departing to LAX on UA 1446. Is this enough time and how far are the gates?

That should be barely enough time if your first flight is on-time. Both flights should be in the C/D concourse.

If on time, I have over 1 1/2 hrs to make connection. Are the likely Gates/Terminals close? Thank you.

Yes, that should be enough time. Both flights will be on the C/D concourse.

  • 41 minutes transfer
    Sep 17, 2015
I'm flying in from SEA to IAD then IAD to YUL with a 41 minute window to make the transfer. Both flights with United. Is there going to be enough time for me to make it?

Yes, that should be enough time as long as your flight from Seattle is on-time. You should just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in the C/D concourse.

  • Connection Question - I Depart from CHO, Connect at IAD to go to LAS
    Sep 17, 2015
Where do I go once United Airlines 5010 (from Charlottesville, VA) arrives at IAD (7:09 AM) to get to my connection flight UA1537 (departs @ 8:05 AM) for Las Vegas? Do I take a train or can I walk to the gate?

You will arrive in A and depart from C or D. You will have to take the mobile lounge or AeroTrain to your departure gate.

Thanks so much for your prompt reply but at the risk of sounding ignorant, what is a "mobile lounge"

It's a fancy bus. Google "IAD Mobile Lounge"

  • Do I have time?
    Sep 14, 2015
Hi, I have a flight departing IAD at 320 pm from terminal D to Newark and then to Paris with carry on bags only. How early do I need to be at IAD? How long does security take at that time? How long does it take to get from airport front door to D concourse gates? Thanks

There is no Terminal D at Dulles. D is a concourse. You should be fine arriving at the airport at about 1:30-1:45 PM.

Thanks for the reply. Is concourse D a long way from the security check in point?

You take a mobile lounge or the AeroTrain. It takes maybe 10 minutes.

  • Connection time

Hi There, I am flying from Tampa to Dublin, Ireland with United Airlines. My flight from Tampa to Dulles arrives at 9:10pm. My flight to Dublin departs at 10:20pm which only gives me 1hour 10min connection time. Is that enough? Thanks in advance.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. All you have to do in Dulles is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thanks so much for your quick response, I really appreciate it. It's great that I can just walk to another gate and not have to get the airport train. I presume I'll have to go through security again?

No, you won't have to go through security again.

  • 50 min connection on frequently delayed flight
    Sep 14, 2015
Hi everyone, I am traveling from Newark with a .3% rating for on time with an average 41 min delay on Wednesday (but clear weather) to Dulles, departing 50 minutes later from terminal B to Dubai. All on united: The only other flight out from the tristate has a 5 hour layover. Both options aren't good! My concern is if I have to gate check anything or my flight is even 20 mins late I will miss the connection and/or my checked bag won't make it either. Those of you with knowledge of these flights (UA6049 to UA976) could you offer thoughts on whether I should go for the 5 hour layover and change flights? Thanks

Dulles does not have a Terminal B. The United flight to Dubai departs from the C or D concourse. Even when delayed UA6049 usually appears to arrive in Dulles before 9:15 PM, which still leaves you a lot of time to get to your flight to Dubai.

Thanks. The airline is insisting it's terminal B.? Ill take my chances, appreciate it

  • Enough time?
    Sep 13, 2015
Have 50 minutes to go from arrival at D-1 to Departure on A-1F, can we make it?

It's possible but you'll need to hope your first flight is on-time and hurry.

Using Dulles for first time. Arriving Saudi Airlines reaches 12 20 pm connecting with US air 5203 at 1.45 pm. Is that enough time ( 1 hr 25 min) to clear immigration and customs? second related on return flight from tampa arrives at (United 325) at 1.45pm and international departure Saudi airlines at 6 pm. Is theer enough time to make it? Thanks in advance

Your arrival connection is not enough time. You have plenty of time on your return from Tampa.

  • Transfer from UA 3385 to UA 936
    Sep 15, 2015
I arrive on a UA commuter flight and have only 1h40min to get to my UA flight to ZHR. How far apart are the gates/concourses? Will I have to run? Will they hold an international flight for me?

They will not hold a flight for you but you should have plenty of time if your first flight is on-time. You could arrive in Councourse A or C. You will depart from Concourse C or D. If you arrive in C you can just walk to your gate. If you arrive in A you will have to take the Aerotrain or Mobile Lounge to your departure concourse. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

Thanks for your comment. I noticed that the DutyFree shop seems to be on Concourse C. Does this indicate that International departures all leave from C? If not, will there be duty free shops on Concourse D?

  • Changing Planes and gate connections
    Sep 10, 2015
If I am arriving at Dulles Airport , Terminal Z and need to get to Terminal C, how is that done? Is there a shuttle or train? Do i need to go through security again? How much time should be allowed? Flight is at 9pm on a Thursday.

Z and C are concourses, not Terminals. IAD only has one terminal. The Mobile Lounge connects Z and C You do not have to go through security again. If you are flying Silver into IAD I would allow 2 hours or book a morning flight. They are almost always late.

  • Transfer from UA4783 --> SK926
    Sep 15, 2015
Hello, Me and my wife will transfer at IAD between UA4783 arriving from Richmond 4:04 pm to SK926 bound for Copenhagen 5:15 pm. We are also travelling with an infant. I assume bags can be checked to final destination already in RIC, but still feel the connection is tight. Will the two flights be in the same concours?

Yes, your bags can be checked to your final destination in RIC. You have plenty of time. You will arrive in Concourse A and depart from concourse B, which are two sides of the same building.

    Thanks, appreciate the assistance!
