  • Urgent: Domestic to international transfer time TODAY
    Oct 10, 2015
I will arrive IAD on flight us3993 at 4:23pm. My next flight is international flight ua974 to GVA boarding till 5:25pm. I want to know the transfer process and whether I have enough time or not. Many thanks.

All you have to do is go from arrival gate to departure gate. You have enough time.

I will fly from DCA to BJX but I need to do a stop in AT^L to take my connection. Layout of just 40 minutes. Is that enought time to connect the national gates to international gates? Do I need to do a clearance in ATL first?

All you have to do in Atlanta is take the Plane Train from your arrival concourse to your departure concourse.

  • layover time at IAD

I am looking to book a return flight from Ottawa Ontario to Charleston SC. It goes through Dullus at mid-day, both ways. Pre-boarding customs is in place in Ottawa, so we do not have to go through that process at Dullus. The trip to CHS has a 40-min layover in IAD, and the return trip is a mere 35 min. Is this enough time to get from the International terminal to the domestic terminal, or from the domestic terminal to the international terminal on our return trip?

There is no separate international and domestic terminal. However, those are fairly tight connections.

  • Layover Question

I will be arriving on UA822 from Mexico City at 3:35PM, and then catching Icelandair644 at 8:35PM. I plan to use the United lounge in the C gates during my layover. To be sure I have this right, I will likely arrive in the C gates, proceed to international arrivals, get my bag, pass through customs, re-check my bag, pass through security and head back to the C gates. I think my flight to Iceland will be leaving from the A gates... do I need to go through security again when I leave the C gates? Or do you just take the tram to the A gates? Thank you!

C and A are connected inside security by the AeroTrain.

  • Getting from A to C at IAD
    Oct 7, 2015
I arrive at IAD at 4:25 at Terminal A today and depart at 5:20 at Terminal C. Is that enough time to get from one terminal to the next? Is the shuttle the only transport between the terminals?

The Aerotrain connects A and C. You have enough time.

Thanks for the tip. I made my flight, no problem. Getting from Terminal A to Terminal C was a trek though. By the time I connected, the other flight was boarding. And now it's sitting on the tarmac, delayed by 10 minutes. ;)

Her flights could be in A, C or D. All gates at IAD are connected inside security.

  • Advice
    Oct 7, 2015
Hi, I am flying for the second time soon and will be travelling on my own. Most flights seem to be going through IAD both inbound and outbound. What I am looking for is advice on how long I should allow both ways for plane transfers and how easy it is at Dulles, I would be travelling from Manchester, UK to Indianapolis and returning from Indianapolis to Manchester, obviously. To be honest I am a little apprehensive about the whole experience as I have only flown the once and was with other people. Many thanks

You will want around 2 hours on your way to Indianapolis and can do about an hour on your way back to Manchester.

Many thanks I can now look for flights with at least those stopover times.

  • will I have time?
    Oct 5, 2015
I am scheduled to arrive at IAD at 724am friday oct.9,2015 via flight UA4025 with united and depart at 810am UA3137 with silver airways. Can you tell what gate those are, and the quickest way to get there and will I have enough time?

You will arrive in C or D and depart from Z. That should be enough time. Silver flights usually run late.

Do we walk to Z or catch a ride. What would be faster? Thanks for your help.

You have to take the AeroTrain or Mobile Lounge

If I arrive at Dulles Airport at 9pm for a 10:15pm flight from courcourse D (no checked baggage and no stopping at gate agent to get ticket) will that give me enough time to go through security and also get to my gate? I have such a short window :(

You can take the mobile lounge or AeroTrain from Z to D without having to go through security.
