  • 35mins for changeover (both flight united) SFO to Paris
    Aug 30, 2015
Hi, I have a reservation reaching from SFO to Paris with a change over at IAD. The flight will reach IAD at 4:45PM and the next one will leave after 35mins to Paris. Both are United planes. Is the changeover time enough to make the change?

  • enough time for transfer

Hi there.. I am looking at booking a flight from MIA to Det with a 45 minute layover in Washingston. Is this enough time to make it? I am not familiar with this airport at all. Thanks

    What airline are you flying?

  • Security
    Aug 26, 2015
I've had to re-enter the security line transferring to and from international flights in places like Chicago O'Hare. Will I need to do another security line in Dulles when I transfer? I'm flying Aer Lingus and connecting to United/Mesa

If you are flying Aer Lingus from Dublin, they have US Immigration and Customs preclearance there. Therefore, your arrival into Dulles will be like a domestic flight and you will just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All gates at Dulles are connected inside security.

  • Do I have enough time
    Aug 26, 2015
My family of four will be arriving at IAD from South Africa Airways at 06:25am on New Year Eve. Do we have enough time to catch a US Air flight to Charlotte at 08:40 a.m with check-in luggage?

Flight to Charlotte is United Air

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • beijing-Dulles-Montreal connection
    Aug 26, 2015
I arrive at IAD from Beijing on UA 808 at 19:55 and have a connection to Montreal on UA 3979 at 22:11. would you mind telling me is there enough time catch the connection and the procedure from arriving through departure. Thanks.

That should be enough time. You will arrive in the C/D concourse, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, which is also on the C/D concourse.

Thanks again for your info. Just noticed that there are two immigration, one in the main terminal accessing by shuttle bus, and the second one in concours C, I believe that is the one I will go. Is this one by walking or also need take the shuttle bus? And how far from customers to the security?

Yes, you will use the facility in C. You will walk directly to the immigration facility from your gate. The facility has its own security checkpoint for transferring passengers after you clear customs and re-check your bags, so it is a very short walk.

  • LAX-IAD-LHR 35 minute connection
    Aug 25, 2015
I'm due to fly tomorrow from LAX on UA 1985, due into IAD at 21:25, and then connect to UA 924, departing at 22:00. One booking. Will I have enough time to make the connection? Thank you.

That's enough time if the first flight is on-time. Both flights will be on the C/D concourse and all you have to do at IAD is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Can I make the connection between Ua1764 arriving at 4:00 and UA42 departing at 5:20?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on the C/D concourse.

  • Connection time
    Aug 24, 2015
Looking to book a trip on United from JAX to ORD with a connection in IAD on a Saturday morning. The IAD layover time is 1 hour 9 Minutes. If I have to go from terminal A to C/D or vice versa, is this connection doable? I have never flown thru IAD, but do know that not all gates are walkable, but by train/tram. I will have a carry on roller and if needed am physically able to run thru the airport! The other flight option has a fare which is $110 more then the one mentioned, but with a 2 hour layover. I prefer the cheaper fare, but want to make sure the connection is doable. Thank you!

A and C/D are just concourses, not terminals. 1 hour 9 minutes should be enough time it's more than likely both flights will be in C/D anyway.

  • Domestic to International Flight connection
    Aug 24, 2015
I am planning to purchase a United Airlines ticket from CLE to IAD, arriving at 8:56pm. The flight I wish to connect to is on Turkish Airlines, departing at 11:23pm to Istanbul. I will purchase these tickets separately, as I cannot seem to find them on the same reservation. My questions are the following: 1. Will that be enough time with one checked bag? The seven day arrival average for the flight is 8:53pm (according to Flight Aware), so it seems to be on time more often than not. I just need to know if 2 1/2 hours is enough time to grab the bag, drop it off again at the ticket counter, and go through security prior to 10:30pm. Also, I will be flying the day after Christmas. Please factor this into your answer if you feel the crowds will be large and may effect the security wait time. 2. If this is not enough time, would I be able to contact United and have them check the bag all the way though to Instanbul, as United and Turkish are Star Alliance members? Or does it have to be an official code-share flight? Any advice would be appreciated! Looking to purchase tickets this week.

It should be enough time. And yes, there is a good chance that if you show your Turkish confirmation to the United agent in Cleveland that they will tag your bags through to Istanbul and may even be able to issue your Turkish boarding pass (although you might have to get that from the Turkish gate agent at IAD).

    Thanks!! Great info.

  • United Express to United Flight Connection
    Aug 24, 2015
I plan on taking United Express #5109 to IAD and landing at 11:55 AM then departing on United flight #357 at 12:45, a 50 min. layover. Will this be enough time for me to change planes?

Yes, that should be enough time. Both flights should be on the C/D concourse.

Hi I arrive at Washington (Dulles) from Dublin on United Airlines at 1530 and have connecting flight (UA) at 1720 to Mexico City. Is this enough time? Will I have to collect bags and go through customs again? Thanks!

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. All you have to do in Dulles is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is no US Customs when leaving the US. You should have plenty of time.

Thanks very much - appreciate it!

  • NRT-IAD-JFK difference alliance transfer
    Aug 23, 2015
Hello. I will be arriving from Tokyo at 10:40(ANA). My connection plane to JFK will depart at 13:45. Two separate tickets, with just short of 3 hrs between them. Do I have enough time to be able to transfer ? Which Concourse will I arrive and leave out of. Thanks.

You will arrive at the B gates, be transferred to the International Arrivals building, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then go to the departures level and re-check your bag with your other airline. Your flight to JFK will depart from concourse B (both JetBlue and Delta use B)

  • 1hr 30min layover
    Aug 23, 2015
Hello, I arrive at IAD from Brussels (UA 9903) at 12:55 and I will be flying to Toronto (YYZ) at 14:30 (UA 3342). Will this be enough time for transit? Will they get my luggage loaded as well? Would you mind telling me the terminals of which I arrive and depart in? Thank you!

IAD Only has one terminal. You will arrive at the B gates, be transferred to the International Arrivals building, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then go to the departures level, and then go to your departure gate, in concourse A or D via the AeroTrain.

Will that take a lot of time? What are the chances of me missing my flight?

2 hrs 35 minutes should be comfortably enough time.

It actually is 1hr and 35 minutes.

Then that's a bit less comfortable. If you do miss your connection there should be at least one later flight to Toronto you can be rebooked on.

  • International/domestic Connection
    Aug 22, 2015
I an due to arrive at IAD at 1415hrs on 1st Sept from Manchester on United UA101. I then have a domestic United flight UA1271 to Boston Logan which is due to depart 1711hrs. I have been given no terminal identification for arrival flight at IAD or departing flight from IAD. What is the procedure/where do I go, etc? I've heard of lengthy delays. Any advice would be appreciated.

IAD only has one terminal. IAD does not commonly have delays. You will arrive in the C/D gates, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, then go through security and to your departure gate, also in the C/D gates. You have plenty of time.
