Hi. Looking to book lon to Denver via iAd on good Friday. Arrive at 1220 with onward at 1421. Will 2 hours be enough to clear immigration (UK citizens)? Do we need to collect bags if both on United? Thanks

We are flying in on Austria Airlines on October 30 at 3:45pm, our next flight to Phoenix departs at 5:42 with United. Is 1 hour 57 minutes enough time to get through immigration and customs. Also we would like to grab something to eat before we board. Will there be enough time?

That should be enough time. However, you probably won't have time to get anything to eat unless your Austrian flight arrives early.

  • Connection UA919 to UA 3358

I arrive at IAD from London on UA 919 at 15:25 and have a connection to Columbia on UA 3358 at 17:15. I found arrival at C7 and departure from A1A. Would you mind telling me is there enough time to catch the connection and pass the immigration procedure. Should I pass immigration in main terminal or in C? Thanks.

That should be barely enough time. I believe you will be funneled through Immigration in the facility in the D concourse, but if given a choice, going to the International Arrivals Building may be slightly faster as it is an easier trip from the main terminal to concourse A than it is from C/D.

    Great thanks for prompt answer.

  • Connection UA951 to UA3729

Hello, we will be travelling on Sep 6 2015 from Brussels, Belgium, to Atlanta Intl Airport via Washington Dulles. Arrival time in Washington (UA951) is 14h30, and the flight to Atlanta (UA3729) leaves at 16h56. Is that enough time? Do we need to walk long distances in-between or even take a shuttle bus? I ask this because my wife is pregnant.

Yes, that should be enough time. No, you should not have to take a shuttle bus or walk very far. You will clear US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check your bags in the immigration facility in concourse D, then go through security up to the departure level and to your departure level in the same building (C/D concourse).

Hi~ I'm looking at flying into IAD at 6:25am from Senegal connecting to an 8:15am flight to seattle, both operated by South Africa Airlines. Is 1 hr 50 minutes enough time to clear customs and catch the next flight? How long does it normally take to clear customs and collect and recheck luggage and are all flights operated by the same carrier housed in the same terminals? Thanks!

It might be closer. There are a few large international flights that arrive at 6:00, Dubai and one from Africa. You need to board a shuttle to go to customs, then it is a matter of how many people are in line, but it could be a long line. Then you need to go back through security, which can be long, early in the morning. Good Luck. I always look for a back up plan in case I miss a flight.

Please note that your second flight will be operated by United. You should have enough time, the SAA flight is really the only international arrival that uses the International Arrivals building that early in the morning (the Dubai and South America flights use the United facility). You will be transferred to the International Arrivals Building, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go up to the departure level, through security and to the C/D concourse where your flight to Seattle will depart using the AeroTrain or Mobile Lounge.

  • Connection United 3794 to United 5103 Oct 15, 2015

Hello, my mother will be travelling back to Ottawa from Kansas City on Oct 15, 2015. I am looking at getting her the tickets for United 3794 connecting to United 5103 in IAD, with only 60 minutes in-between the two flights. Is this ample time? Because I assume she will have to go through security once more between the two planes?

No, she will not have to go through security. All gates at IAD are connected inside security. In fact both of her flights will be on the C/D concourse. All she has to do in IAD is walk from her arrival gate to her departure gate. She should have plenty of time.

Thank you so much for you detailed answer. Much appreciated.

  • How long to clear immigration

Hi. I will landing on a Sunday morning from South Africa to Dulles with SAA at 6:25am. My next flight out is Frontiers to Chicago at 9:30am. Is that enough time to clear immigration&collect baggage?

Yes, that should be enough time. Note that you will have to take your bags to the Frontier check-in desk on the upper level, you can't re-check it at the re-check desk.

Thanks for the tip. Are people happy to direct if time is tight? I have read varying forums on time clearing immigration being up to 2 hours and otgers saying 45mins...

It shouldn't take that long, there are not many early morning international arrivals and most of them use the United facility, not the International Arrivals Building like your SAA flight will use.

  • 35mins for changeover (both flight united) SFO to Paris
    Aug 30, 2015

Hi, I have a reservation reaching from SFO to Paris with a change over at IAD. The flight will reach IAD at 4:45PM and the next one will leave after 35mins to Paris. Both are United planes. Is the changeover time enough to make the change?

Yes, if your first flight is on-time that is enough time. All you have to do in IAD is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on the C/D concourse.

Thanks a lot for quick reply. Probably I should ask this question to the airline, but still, since I will get the boarding passes of both the flights in SFO itself, wouldn't the airline make sure that in case of delay of first flight, the second flight's take-off is appropriately delayed? After all, United offered this itinerary on their website, so it becomes their responsibility, isn't it?

Airlines don't hold flights for individual passengers. If you miss the flight because your first flight is late they will either put you on a later flight to Paris if there is one, book you to Paris connecting in Frankfurt, or book you on the next night's flight to Paris.

Hi there.. I am looking at booking a flight from MIA to Det with a 45 minute layover in Washingston. Is this enough time to make it? I am not familiar with this airport at all. Thanks

    What airline are you flying?

I've had to re-enter the security line transferring to and from international flights in places like Chicago O'Hare. Will I need to do another security line in Dulles when I transfer? I'm flying Aer Lingus and connecting to United/Mesa

If you are flying Aer Lingus from Dublin, they have US Immigration and Customs preclearance there. Therefore, your arrival into Dulles will be like a domestic flight and you will just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All gates at Dulles are connected inside security.

  • Do I have enough time

My family of four will be arriving at IAD from South Africa Airways at 06:25am on New Year Eve. Do we have enough time to catch a US Air flight to Charlotte at 08:40 a.m with check-in luggage?

Flight to Charlotte is United Air

Yes, that should be enough time.

I arrive at IAD from Beijing on UA 808 at 19:55 and have a connection to Montreal on UA 3979 at 22:11. would you mind telling me is there enough time catch the connection and the procedure from arriving through departure. Thanks.

That should be enough time. You will arrive in the C/D concourse, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, which is also on the C/D concourse.

Thanks again for your info. Just noticed that there are two immigration, one in the main terminal accessing by shuttle bus, and the second one in concours C, I believe that is the one I will go. Is this one by walking or also need take the shuttle bus? And how far from customers to the security?

Yes, you will use the facility in C. You will walk directly to the immigration facility from your gate. The facility has its own security checkpoint for transferring passengers after you clear customs and re-check your bags, so it is a very short walk.

    Appreciate.

I'm due to fly tomorrow from LAX on UA 1985, due into IAD at 21:25, and then connect to UA 924, departing at 22:00. One booking. Will I have enough time to make the connection? Thank you.

That's enough time if the first flight is on-time. Both flights will be on the C/D concourse and all you have to do at IAD is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Can I make the connection between Ua1764 arriving at 4:00 and UA42 departing at 5:20?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on the C/D concourse.

Looking to book a trip on United from JAX to ORD with a connection in IAD on a Saturday morning. The IAD layover time is 1 hour 9 Minutes. If I have to go from terminal A to C/D or vice versa, is this connection doable? I have never flown thru IAD, but do know that not all gates are walkable, but by train/tram. I will have a carry on roller and if needed am physically able to run thru the airport! The other flight option has a fare which is $110 more then the one mentioned, but with a 2 hour layover. I prefer the cheaper fare, but want to make sure the connection is doable. Thank you!

A and C/D are just concourses, not terminals. 1 hour 9 minutes should be enough time it's more than likely both flights will be in C/D anyway.
