  • rechecking bags

I am flying in from Vienna ( Austria)on Austrian airlines tomorrow and i have a connecting flight to Orlando 3 hours after arriving on United. Unfortunately i had to book my tickets separately and therefor my bags will not be checked all the way through to Orlando. Does anyone know if there is a United check in counter right after costumes and immigrations? I am pregnant and have a little one as well and i really hope i don't have to walk all the way to the main check in desk with all of our bags. Thank you so much

  • Enough time??? BOS-> IAD -> NRT
    Jul 28, 2014

I arrive at IAD from BOS at 11:15AM, and depart to NRT at 12:25PM. Which terminals would I be arriving and departing at? Would I have enough time?

IAD only has one terminal, but has 4 concourses on two buildings. Both flights should be on the C/D concourse. Yes, you should have plenty of time as all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Changing Flight at IAD

I will be arriving IAD from NY (LGA) around 7am and my flight to Orlando leaves 45 mins later. Will there be enough time to catch this flight?

Yes, you should have enough time if your first flight is on-time. Your flight from IAD will likely arrive at the A concourse and your flight to Orlando will depart from C or D. A is connected to C and D by the mobile lounge and aerotrain, follow the signs.

    Thanks so much

  • 59 Minute connection time ?

I don't fly regularly and I did review other posts here but with the variables...? I'm flying United into IAD sched to arrive on a Fri 11:21 a.m. and connect United for YUL - Trudeau depart 12:20 (59 min). I booked assuming this would be enough but after reading some posts ?

Correction - not sure why I was thinking "Friday" this flight is on a TUES if that makes a difference.

As long as your first flight is domestic this should be enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you have to go between the A concourse and C/D they are connected by the mobile lounge and Aerotrain.

Yes incoming flight is domestic. Thank you ZAP !

I arrive from manchester(united kingdom) on united airlines and have 2 hours 50 minutes which is plenty of time to connect to our flight to new york wuth united airlines, do we have to go through immigration ect and then check in again, what is the procedure?

You will arrive in the C/D concourse at IAD where you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, follow the signs for connecting passengers and re-check your bags with United, then go through security and you will be back in C/D. If your flight to New York leaves from A, you an take the mobile lounge or aerotrain there. You should be given both of your boarding passes in Manchester. You won't have to go through any immigration again when you get to New York.

  • Connection time - changing carriers from AA to Virgin Atlantic
    Jul 19, 2014

I am scheduled to arrive at IAD at 3:25 PM on American. I am scheduled to board a Virgin Atlantic international flight to LHR at 6:40 PM. Enough time? Even if the American flight is delayed?

Yes, that should be enough time. You have enough spare room for about 90 minutes of delays.

  • Short Connection Concern

I'm arriving in IAD from NRT at 3:45pm and to connect at 4:55pm to RDU. Even though they say it's a legal connection, I'm quite concerned I will miss this flight. My seat is also at the very back of the plane. Any help to my situation if I upgrade to economy plus?

1 hr 10 minutes is not a legal International -> Domestic connection length. You need to ask to be rebooked either on a later flight to RDU or over a different United hub such as ORD, SFO, or EWR.

I am scheduled to arrive at IAD at 3:45pm on a United flight from Tokyo (NRT). My connecting flight (United) from IAD to Boston Logan is scheduled to depart at 5:05pm. Is 1 hr 20 min enough to time to clear immigration/customs and make my connecting flight?

It is possible. However that is prime arrival time into IAD and 1 hr 20 minutes is below the Minimum Intl->Domestic connection time. So it is a bit risky.

Interesting. My husband booked same flight to IAD w/ same departure time (to BTV - Vermont). I asked about the itinerary, also concerned about connections, and United Airlines assured me it is well within "legal" connection times.

Regarding IAD connection -- we also considered changing flight through ORD, buys us an extra 45 minutes, BUT change fee is $300. I wish I knew what United is looking at when they say within legal time limits -- I'm not familiar with Minimum Intl>Domestic connection times, but I think they should be. It will be cheaper to book hotel than change ticket.

  • delayed flight

My flight from SDF to IAD is delayed. I need to make a flight to Brussels by the boarding end time of 520, but because of the delay, I wont arrive in DC until 4:44. It looms like I arrive at gate A4 and depart gate C2. The departing flight leaves at 5:35. Can I make it???

Yes, it's possible, take the AeroTrain from A to C.

Security won't open until like 4:30, but you'll be the only ones there that early so it won't take any time to get through security. If you get there at 4:15 you should have plenty of time.

  • Time to catch different plane???

I'm flying in from Orlando and should land in IAD at 11:16am. I have to catch another plane at 12:20pm. This is one of those "hacker" deals from Kayak. I'm trying to decide if I will have enough time to catch the other plane. I don't know how far apart the 2 planes are. Is this a big airport? Do you think I will have time to catch another plane? Will I have to go through security or something else that may slow me down? Any help is appreciated!

All gates at IAD are connected inside security. If you don't have checked bags and check in for your second flight on-line you should be OK.

That should be enough time. You will go through Immigration, claim your bags, go through customs, then re-check your bags in Terminal 4. Then you can go to the departure level, through security, and then take Delta's shuttle bus to Terminal 2 where you will depart, or take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train to T2 and go through security there.

  • Enough time for connections?

Flying in to IAD from Charleston, SC at 11:40. My flight departs for Tokyo at 12:25... 45 minutes to board for an international flight? All flights are United. Thanks! Freaking out as change fee is $750 and leaving on red eye from CHS

Most likely, you will arrive at IAD's Midfield Concourse C/D, at C or D gates, & depart from either Z or H gates of the Main Terminal. Your boarding pass, as well as the overhead screens on arrival at IAD, should indicate flight & gate number. While the Aerotrain runs its continuous loop between the Main Terminal and Concourses A through C - C gates C1-30 & D gates D1-32 are connected by a walkway. Hurry! For more details, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iad, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

please ignore SUJUN's Nonsensical and incorrect "advice". You will arrive on A, C, or D. and depart from C or D. A and C/D are connected by the aerotrain and mobile lounge inside security. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time but you will have to hurry.

Thanks! I won't have to go thru a recheck with security? I planned to run anyways but was worried about going into another security screening since I was boarding an international flight. I have never flown through Dulles or not had a straight flight (ATL-FRA) where I haven't had to worry about it before. Thanks again!

No, you do not have to do anything with your baggage or go through security in IAD.

I booked a third party ticket from Dublin to Bogota via Heathrow and IAD. Virgin flight lands in iAd at 2.50pm this Thursday 19th June. Avianca flight departs 4.36pm. I am a UK citizen. I will not have any baggage and will check in for the avianca flight in advance. Do you think the 1h4min gap is sufficient to make the connection ?

  • Cancun Arrival - Copenhagen Departure.
    Jun 20, 2014

Hi All, I'm planning a trip, where I will be arriving from Cancun and departing for Copenhagen, Denmark. I would however only have 55 min. (according to flight plans) to connect... would this be too tight? As I am going International to International, do I still have to go through US Immigration, re-check my luggage etc.? Thanks.

If you purchase your tickets together they will be tagged through to Miami in Manila. When you get to Terminal 1 you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US customs, and then you can re-check your bags with Delta. Then you will take the AirTrain to Terminal 2 or Terminal 4 (check monitors, if departure gate begins with B it leaves from Terminal 4, if C it leaves from Terminal 2), then get your boarding pass if you don't already have it, then go through security and to your departure gate.
