  • Domestic to international flight

I'm flying in from Norfolk, VA to IAD, which arrives at A2E, and my connecting flight is at the C gates to London, how do I get from the A gates to C gates?

The Aerotrain or the mobile lounge. Follow the signs.

  • TSA precheck at concourse C?
    Aug 29, 2016
Arriving on international flights after immigration and recheck of bag, we then have to clear security. Why is there no TSA pre-check offered at that checkpoint?

Because simply not enough people pass through that checkpoint to justify it and because there probably isn't room.

  • International flight connecting to a domestic flight

Arriving from Brussels (Belgium citizen) at 2:30pm on Sept 9 on United Airlines 951. The UA 560 flight to SFO leaves at 3:49 pm. Is a 1 hour & 19 min connection enough time for customs and baggage recheck-in?

Realistically that will be very difficult unless your flight from Brussels arrives early, but United has other flights to SFO you can likely be rebooked on.

How long does it normally take to get through immigration around 4pm on a Thursday?

    Probably about 30-45 minutes.

Flying home to Dublin from Atlanta, is 40mins enough time to make my connection? Flying in United from Atlanta, Flying out to Dublin United as well.

Yes, that is enough time if the flight from Atlanta is on-time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

My daughter is traveling from South Africa to Amsterdam and picking up a connecting flight to IAD (KLM/Delta). She then is to board an AA flight from IAD to LAX. She has approximately 1 1/4 hours between her arrival in IAD and the departure to LAX. Is that enough time? What is the procedure when she arrives at IAD with respect to customs and baggage transfer? Thanks

That is not enough time. In IAD she will be taken to the International arrivals building, go through US Immigration, and claim her bags, she then has to go to the departures level, re-check her bags with American and go through security and to her departure gate. She needs about another hour to make this connection at IAD.

  • Connection time
    Aug 23, 2016
Hi, I will be arriving from Munich with United Airlines at IAD at 3;15 P.M. . I have a connecting flight to CHS with United at 5:05 P,M. Is this enough time to clear customs ? Will I need to recheck my baggage for the flight to CHS ? THank you

That should be just enough time. Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, through security and to your departure gate.

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate using the mobile lounge or aerotrain.

  • Connecting flight
    Aug 21, 2016
Hi! I will arrive in IAD with a UNITED domestic flight from RDU. I will only have 1h55 to make my connecting international flight with Korean to Seoul. Since tickets were bought on different reservations, I will have to collect my bags at arrival and recheck them for the next flight. Can I make it?

It's barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

  • Tranfer between BRU and DEN via IAD
    Aug 19, 2016
Is 1:50 enough to transit from International flight UA 951 coming from Brussels to flight UA 542 going to Denver? Later flight is not an option since in Denver we have to connect to UA 1584 going to Jackson Hole. Suitcases included if possible ;-)

Yes, this is enough time, but leaves little to spare in case your flight from Brussels is late.

  • Recheck bags

Arriving on United and going to Amsterdam on United. Will need to get bags and recheck?

No you do not. There is no US Immigration and Customs when leaving the US. You just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate if your first flight is domestic.

  • SDF - ZRH
    Aug 18, 2016
Arriving from Louisville SDF at 4:25pm on United Express 4708. Departing for Zurich ZRH on United 52 at 5:50pm. Two adults, both US citizens. Is this workable?

All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will have no issue making this connection.

  • Arriving international departing domestic
    Aug 17, 2016
I am arriving at IAD terminal E from Beijing. Departing on domestic from terminal D to CLE. Baggage tag shows checked through to CLE. I need to go through security again?

You will have to go through customs and immigration, check your bag at the re-check desk, then go through security once more. I reccomend two hours for your connection.

This is impossible as IAD does not have a Terminal E. If your flight is on United it will arrive in the D concourse and you will depart from concourse A, C, or D.

I'm stopping at Washington Dulles with United For around 3 1/2 hours. Do i need to collect my baggage and re check or will the airline put it on the next flight (also a United Flight). I booked it with one ticket.

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate.
