  • DFW to London

I will be flying United from DFW connecting in IAD to London. I only have 30 minutes between flights. Can this be done?

At IAD, United is the only airline using all of their Midfield Concourses A through D (with corresponding gates, i.e. gate B35) located in 2 separate parallel-running buildings A/B & C/D. A-C connect via AeroTrain, while D gates can only be reached by shuttle bus from A gates, or via walkway from C gates to D gates. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iad then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • International transfer to Orlando
    Jul 29, 2013
    4
Hi - Can anyone advise please ? Arriving United from Manchester, England Sat 14.55, connecting to United Orlando flight 17.10. What's the process please ? We're first timers connecting internationally and presume will have to go through customs etc. Will everything happen in Terminal C ? Thanks for any tips.

All international arrivals at IAD are being transported to the International Arrivals Building at the west end of the main terminal for passport check, retrieving checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag. Thereafter you need to take the Mobile Lounge shutttle to gates D1-32, or take the AeroTrain (follow signs) to A,B, or C gates. United uses A,B,C,D gates - your boarding pass & the overhead screens will indicate flight & gatenumber.

Sajul is incorrect. You will clear immigration in the C concourse. You then just re-check your bags and go upstairs into the C/D concourse where your flight to Orlando will depart.

    Thank you Zap

  • Getting from United Gate to Ethiopian Airways?
    Jul 25, 2013
    1
My 16-year old is traveling alone this Saturday morning and will need to get herself from United Airlines Flight UA 5034 (operated by Trans States) from Bradley International in Hartford, CT arriving 7:22am to Ethiopian Airlines for Flight ET 501 departing for Addis Ababa at 10:15am. Would you please give us advice on the best way for her to get to her gate? And what about luggage? Does she have to pick it up and carry it through the terminal? Thanks. We're very grateful for your help!

If her tickets were bought on one reservation then her baggage will be checked straight through to Addis Ababa as United and Ethiopian are codeshare partners. Her flight is currently slated to arrive in C, and she just has to take the Aerotrain from C to A where the Ethiopian flight will depart. There's a chance her arrival will be moved to A, in which case she will be even closer. She has plenty of time.

  • UA Int'l Arvl Fm DXB To IAD/Continue UA To DAY
    Jul 22, 2013

I'm a little worried about this connection time... UA arrival from DXB is at 0610, dunno concourse, UA departure to DAY is 0817, same ticket. Do I understand correctly that I will be able to go through immigration, collect checked bags, then through customs, then recheck bags, then TSA, and all within concourse C?? Is that 2 hour 7 minute time frame enough time to do this?? SO appreciate the guidance provided here!!

Your transfer time should suffice, if arrival at IAD is not delayed: After re-check-in of bags, International arrivals who continue their journey cannot use the AeroTrain, but need to take the Mobile Lounge shutttle to either gates D1-32 and H-gates. The shuttle bus to the D gates is located on the Main Terminal's lower level (to the right of the passenger walkway to A& B gates. C gates C1-30 & D gates D1-32 are connected by a walkway.

Thanks much mojul13 - and do I understand correctly that there's a "re-check-in" of bags counter of sorts in the basement of Concourse C? Meaning that I would not need to drag bags to a check-in counter in the main concourse?

That is correct. you can re-check your bags in C.

You guys RAWK here, did you know that? I know it takes time and effort to research and answer all our questions..... just wanted to let you know that it's deeply appreciated, and that you have a grateful audience out here! Kudos!

  • Connection time from EWR on united expressjet to Qatar Airways
    Jul 15, 2013

Hi, I will be using united express jet from ewr to IAD and then towards Doha on qatar airways. I am looking at 2 hrs, arriving into IAD at 4.00pm and departing IAD at 18.358 on friday. Is this do-able. The fact that its a friday is making me worried. I will be required to goto Qatar airways counter to get my boarding card issued

It will depend on your first flight being on time. Which on the east coast is far from a sure thing. The Qatar airways counter can also be a bit of a mess at IAD. However, check the time on your Qatar Airways flight, I show it leaving at 10:55 PM, not 6:35 as you posted.

  • How does Passport control/bagage claim work
    Jul 5, 2013

How does Passport control/bagage claim work with Int'l flights arriving in Concourse C? Do I have to leave Con C to reenter the USA via customs with my Claimed bag or is that process all contained within Con C?

Usually everything is done within C - sometimes you are transported via mobile lounge to the IAB though - http://www.metwashairports.com/dulles/884.htm

Better than normal, but not spectacular. Food took a good time to come out, a good sign it was not just nuked. Overall the food was hot and pretty good considering its location in the airport

  • Enough time?
    Jul 1, 2013

I'm arriving to IAD from Boston at 424 PM tomorrow in terminal C and catching a connecting international flight to Munich which departs at 520 PM. This gives me 56 minutes from arrival to take off, and a change in concourses (C to D). Is this enough time? Do I have to do security again? I just spoke to an agent and they told me "no problem, plenty of time". Do I have enough??

C and D are in fact just two sides of the same concourse. There is no security when making any connection from a domestic flight at IAD as all gates are connected beyond security.

  • Help getting from united terminal to international terminal
    Jun 30, 2013
    1
How long does it take to get from A United flight to a flight on Brussels Air? I can't find the distance between terminals.

IAD only has one terminal with 2 concourse piers with lettered concourses A through D. If your United flight is a United Express flight operated on a propeller plane or small regional jet, it will arrive in A and you can walk to where Brussels Airlines operates in concourse B. If you are on a United mainline or large regional jet United Express flight, you will arrive in C or D and have to take a mobile lounge or the Aerotrain to concourse B. Either way, it should take less than 25 minutes.

  • Boston to IAD, transfer to NRT

Lot's of great help here, thanks. I'm taking a flight to NRT (SIN Final) on United. The airline operating the first leg is "Expressjet Airlines". I have 50 minutes to get to the NRT flight. Is this enough time? I called United and they sold me an express check in ticket to go with mine. Do I have to leave security and re-enter for the international leg of this trip? United told me I did. If I don't then this should be easy. From some of these posts, it sounds like I don't. It sounds like I can go from terminal A to B? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No, you do not have to go through security in Washington-Dulles. The agent is wrong. If your flight to Tokyo is on ANA, you can just walk from A to B. If your flight to Tokyo is on United you will have to take the mobile lounge or Aerotrain from A to C or D (no need to go through security).

Thanks so much for the response! I didn't think he was correct about this. That makes all the difference. I couldn't imagine why United would sell me a ticket with a 50 minute window if there was no chance of making it. This trip is United the whole way.

  • KLM Int'l Arvl Fm AMS To IAD/Connect UA To MCO

Arv IAD on KL651 on Fri 2/14 @ 3:30p. Connect to UA 419 to Orlando leaving 5:10. Is that 1 hr 40 minutes too tight; particularly on a Friday afternoon. Thanks.

That will be pretty tough, especially if your tickets were bought on separate reservations and you need to re-check your baggage with United at the counter on the departures level.

Thanks for Reply. Since we arv on KLM Intl'l flight at 3:30p, on Friday afternoon 2/14, we'll switch to a United 5:53 flight to Orlando. Will 2+ hours be ok on a Friday evening AND if we carry our roll-ons on the KLM int'l flight, do we have to go back to the United Ticket area at IAD or can we go directly to the United-to-Orlando gate.

That should be enough time. When you exit immigration you will be on the non-secure side of the terminal. You will need a boarding pass for an onward flight to go back through security and get to your gate. So you will either have to check-in online with your phone (if you have one that works in the US) or go to the United check-in counter.

Also, I've found the 5:53 flight you're talking about. Note that it's operated by US Airways and involves a connection in Charlotte - so you'd have to check in with them, not United.

Yep- my boo boo. It is US Air, not UA. Again, thanks for your timely info.

Arriving UNITED AIRLINES 804 from NRT. Connecting UA 3726 for IND. Which terminal will I be arriving at, and which terminal will I be departing from? Is 1 hour 30 minutes enough to connect? Thanks

You will arrive in C or D and depart from C or D as well (likely D). You will have plenty of time.

    Thank you very much.

  • 1 hour enough?
    Jun 24, 2013

I'll be flying from Ottawa, Canada, on UA 3360 and connecting to SK926.Which terminal will I be arriving at, and which terminal will i'll be departing from? Is one hour enough to connect? Thanks

At Ottawa Airport, go through US customs clearance, saving time on arrival at IAD. United uses A - D gates. SAS uses B gates. On arrival at IAD follow signs 'TO ALL GATES'; go through security checkpoint and look for signs to B gates (for SAS). The Aerotrain connects A - C gates; If arriving at D gates (not served by train) you need to take the shuttle bus to your connecting B gate. One hour will suffice.

Thanks. How long in advance can we know at which Terminal the United Express flight from Ottawa will be arriving at, or is this to be a surprise depending on how crowded the other UA terminals happen to be then?

You will only know the concourse beginning the day before the flight but it can change at any time. However, 3360 will likely arrive in A., which will make it easier to connect to SAS in B.

Thanks again. I greatly appreciate your help. This is the kind of information that is not easy to get. Yves

  • How to get from C24 to B27

Traveling with group arriving at C24 and need to get to B27 at IAD, easiest way

Take the Aerotrain. Budget about 20 minutes for that connection.
