We will be flying home from Vienna in late March. Flight from vie to iAd with Austrian airlines. Then flight from iAd to okc with United airlines. We have 1 hour and 50 min is that enough time? What is the procedure coming from international to domestic? Can you provide step by step process? Thanks

You will arrive in the B gates and be transferred to the International Arrivals Building where you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and take the AeroTrain or mobile lounge to your departure gate in A, C, or D. you have enough time.

Hi I am coming from Denver to terminal D and have to get a plane in terminal B 55 minutes later is that even possible?

D and B are just concourses, not Terminals. They are connected inside security by the mobile lounge. Yes, it is possible.

I am flying into IAD from Cleveland on my way to Dublin Ireland in March, I have one hr and 30 minutes, is that enough time between flights and will I have to change terminals ? Thank you.

IAD only has one terminal. If both flights are on United all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on C/D concourse.

Yes both are on United, thank you !

I clear US customs in ottawa YOW and change planes in Dulles for flight on to IAH and Guadalajara Mex. Will 1 hour 7minutes be enough time for the transfer in IAD for the flight on to Houston. All flights United

Yes, that should be enough time even if you arrive in concourse A. A is connected to C/D where you depart by the AeroTrain and mobile lounge.

Hi, i booked a fly on saturday 10 June 2016. I will come from Indianapolis to Vienna. First Fligt with Mesa Airlines and then with Austrian Airlines so i have only one hours of connection. Do you think it will be enough time? Thank you .

If your flight from Indianapolis is on-time that should be enough time. All concourses are connected inside security by the Aerotrain and mobile lounge.

Hi, I will be traveling from Denver to IAD airport on the 11 of March this year. However, I have a connection flight from IAD to Zurich with only 54 minutes layover. My question is do I need to get my luggage an then do check in again for my flight to Zurich and is 54 minutes enough?

No, you don't have to do anything with your baggage as long as both tickets are on the same reservation. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Time and Confusion-- IAD Terminals
    Feb 12, 2016

Hello, this will mark my first time traveling through IAD Washington-- I am flying on Sunday, February 14, arriving from Burlington, VT and catching a connecting flight to Munich in Washington. I am flying United, arriving in Gate D10 and departing at Gate C1, with only 50 minutes to catch my connecting flight. I'm a rather anxious traveler-- not the flying, but crowd/airport anxiety--- and am wondering if I will have the amount of time needed to get between gates smoothly? Any advice or feedback would be most welcome.

C and D are just two sides of the same building, all connected inside security. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to walk from D10 to C1.

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback. I have looked at the airport map for IAD, but cannot really gauge how far the trek between C and D terminal, from one end to the other is, so thank you for taking the time to explain. I'm sure I'll rely heavily on United personnel for some hand-holding, since when the anxiety takes hold I become a stammering idiot. Thank you for your explanation-- deeply appreciated.

I have a 1 HR 10 connection between flights both on United. Will I have to collect my bags between flights and will I have to deal with customs. I'm nervous about having enough time?!

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk. 1 hr 10 minutes is well below the minimum international to domestic connection time and is only sufficient if everything goes absolutely perfectly.

Hi I am flying from Providence arriving in Dulles at 11.45am, to connect to a flight due to fly out of Dulles to Newark at 12.38, is this enough time, then connecting flight from Newark at 19.50hrs to Glasgow.

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do in Dulles is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Sorry, but one more question-If I need to re check my baggage in Washington,I suppose that after disembarkation of the airplane,I have to follow Connecting flights signs, pass passport check, continue follow connecting or transfer lights and somewhere there to find the baggage. After that pass all security checks. All will be in same terminal. Thank you in advance. My flight is tomorrow,so I'll appreciate your prompt reply.

Yes, you have it more or less correct.

Hi,I'm not a US citizen,I will arrive from Frankfurt in Dulles at 1440,next flight to Savannah is at 1715.All flights are with Lufthansa. The baggage will be transferred directly to Savannah as per Lufthansa info. Please confirm that no need to take my baggage and re-check again in Washington.I'm afraid not to miss the flight.

Your baggage will NOT be transferred directly to Savannah. You will arrive and be taken to the International arrivals building, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. Your flight to Savannah will be operated by United Express. You have enough time.

I booked our flight from Norfolk to Dulles separate from our flight from Dulles to Dublin. The entire trip is on United but I'm afraid that with the legs booked separately, the bags won't be checked through. The flight from Norfolk arrives at 8:35pm and the flight to Dublin leaves at 10:30pm. Is this feasible or should we arrive in Dulles on an earlier flight? We have all day on the way home.

It's feasible. You could also call United and ask to have your Norfolk flights added to your Dublin itinerary. If the agent on the phone can't do it they should be able to at the airport in Norfolk.

I will be arriving from San Juan PR at IAD at D concourse. How can I get to baggage claim by aerotrain. I do NOT wish to use the shuttle. I am a US citizen .Thanks.

You can walk to concourse C and then take the AeroTrain from there. Your citizenship is irrelevant on a domestic flight.

My flight from Tokyo NRT to IAD, then IAD to Hartford BDL, connecting time is 1hour 40minutes, do I have enough time to pass immigration, change terminal, and connect to my domestic flight?

Yes. You don't have to change terminals. IAD only has one terminal.
