  • Albany to Toronto layover

I am flying in from Albany to catch a flight to Toronto but only have 50min from landing to take off. Is this possible?

Note that it's not landing to take-off. It's gate arrival to gate departure. Yes, that should be enough time if your flight from Albany is on-time. All gates at IAD are connected inside security.

domestic arrival at IAD and departure to Dublin, on United for both. Is 1hr 10min enough time? Any shuttle required?

Some United Express flights arrive in A, that requires a shuttle to get to C/D where you depart. Otherwise all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

I am trying to schedule a flight and want to make sure there is time for the connection. Do you have to clear customs and recheck your bag if you are flying in from Toronto? If so is 1 hr and 30 min sufficient time?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

Hi, I have a connecting flight coming from Brussels through Dulles to SFO. We only have 1h15 transit time with checkin luggage, arriving in IAD on a friday afternoon. Do you think we will have enough time to make it to the SFO outbound plane? All flights are with United. Thanks!

That's pretty difficult, but not impossible.

We are flying from Hawaii to IAD and then splitting in 2 parties. 1 party is going to Jetblue Boston, another Porter Toronto. Jetblue party does not have any check-in but Porter does. Will 2 hour connection time for Jetblue and 1.5 hour connection time for Porter be enough? thanks

That should be just enough time if the flight from Hawaii is on-time. The Porter group obviously has less leeway.

I am flying from Frankfurt to London with connection through Chicargo, both flight on United. The layover is 1 hour 45 minutes (3:15PM arrival, 5:00AM departure), is that enough time?

Wait, you're flying from Germany to the UK connecting in Chicago? Then why are you asking this on the forum for Washington-Dulles? Also 3:15 PM to 5 AM is over 13 hours.

My bad, I meant from FRA back to SFO via ORD. Is 1 hr 45 min connection time enough? I noticed that all international arrivals need to go through US customs first.

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 1, go through security and to your departure gate. You have just enough time if everything is on-time.

I am flying from SFO To London with connection through Dulles, both flight on United. The layover is 1 hour and 15 minutes (735AM arrival, 8:45AM departure), is that enough time?

That's plenty of time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on the C/D concourse.

We are due to arrive at 4:25 p usually at gate 32 and depart at 5:05 for Rome. Most intl departures are from terminal C. Will we have enough time for the connection. How long does it take to walk from D32 to C14?

That shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. You should have enough time as long as the arrival is on-time.

Hi we'll be flying on on Beussels Air with a 1 hour 20 min layover to catch a United flight to Denver. We won't have checked bags and have Global Entry. Will this be enough time to make our connection ?

With no checked bags and Global Entry you should be able to make it.

  • Denver to Munich via IAD

Hello, I have a 1 hour 10 minute connection in IAD from Munich and will be ending up in Denver. I know that is a short connection time but I am NOT checking a bag so I would imagine this would expedite the process. Will I make my flight?

Bags don't affect the process. All you have to do in IAD on your way to Munich is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If both are on United then they are both on the C/D concourse. You should have plenty of time.

Sorry, I meant I am coming in FROM Munich to IAD. I will go through customs at IAD and go on to Denver. No bags checked but still need to go through US customs. Will I have enough time?

Oh, then that is much more difficult. With no checked bags it is possible, but it depends on everything going smoothly.

My husband and I are flying from Halifax, NS YHZ to Toronto YYZ , then to Washington IAD and finally State College SCE. We land in Washington at 11:50 am and our flight to State College leaves at 12:52 pm, Only 1 hour to catch the flight. Do we have to pick up our bags in Washington or can we go right to our departure gate.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

I am scheduled to land in IAD from London on Monday 3/21 at 3:40pm. My connecting flight to Minneapolis leaves at 5:10pm. I'll have a checked bag. Is this enough time to get through customs? Thanks for any help!

That should be barely enough time if both tickets are on the same reservation.

I just received notice from our airline carrier our flight times for September have been changed. I am flying from SFO To Barcelona with connection through Dulles on Lufthansa. The layover is 45 minutes, is that enough time?

It's possible but doesn't leave much time to spare. Note that both flights will be on United, so all you will have to do in IAD is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate both on the C/D concourse. You could call United and ask for an earlier flight to IAD.

We are scheduled to fly from SDF to IAD on United, with a 55 minute connection time flying out to Dublin on Aer Lingus. We don't have gate info yet, but from looking at current flights I am guessing we will arrive in A gates and depart from C gates. Is that enough time? Anything we can do in advance to help? We will only have carry on luggage.

I think you have the gates reversed. You will likely arrive in C and depart from A. Just hurry. You will have to take the Aerotrain from C to A.

Oh, I looked at flights on United's website today departing from Louisville arriving in Washington and they all say they arrive at Terminal A. Then I looked on United's website today departing Washington arriving Dublin and they all say Terminal C. Either way it did appear that taking the Aerotrain was the way to get there.

You said you are flying Aer Lingus to Dublin. Aer Lingus uses A.

I am flying from Toronto to Montreal to Washington IAD then to Jacksonville. I only have a 45 minute connection once I land in Washington. I suspect I will need to go through security and re-check my bags.. Is 45 minutes enough time?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. at IAD all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

    Thank you! I was stressing!
