  • Time to catch different plane???
    Jun 24, 2014
I'm flying in from Orlando and should land in IAD at 11:16am. I have to catch another plane at 12:20pm. This is one of those "hacker" deals from Kayak. I'm trying to decide if I will have enough time to catch the other plane. I don't know how far apart the 2 planes are. Is this a big airport? Do you think I will have time to catch another plane? Will I have to go through security or something else that may slow me down? Any help is appreciated!

All gates at IAD are connected inside security. If you don't have checked bags and check in for your second flight on-line you should be OK.

That should be enough time. You will go through Immigration, claim your bags, go through customs, then re-check your bags in Terminal 4. Then you can go to the departure level, through security, and then take Delta's shuttle bus to Terminal 2 where you will depart, or take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train to T2 and go through security there.

  • Enough time for connections?
    Jun 22, 2014
Flying in to IAD from Charleston, SC at 11:40. My flight departs for Tokyo at 12:25... 45 minutes to board for an international flight? All flights are United. Thanks! Freaking out as change fee is $750 and leaving on red eye from CHS

Most likely, you will arrive at IAD's Midfield Concourse C/D, at C or D gates, & depart from either Z or H gates of the Main Terminal. Your boarding pass, as well as the overhead screens on arrival at IAD, should indicate flight & gate number. While the Aerotrain runs its continuous loop between the Main Terminal and Concourses A through C - C gates C1-30 & D gates D1-32 are connected by a walkway. Hurry! For more details, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iad, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

please ignore SUJUN's Nonsensical and incorrect "advice". You will arrive on A, C, or D. and depart from C or D. A and C/D are connected by the aerotrain and mobile lounge inside security. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time but you will have to hurry.

Thanks! I won't have to go thru a recheck with security? I planned to run anyways but was worried about going into another security screening since I was boarding an international flight. I have never flown through Dulles or not had a straight flight (ATL-FRA) where I haven't had to worry about it before. Thanks again!

No, you do not have to do anything with your baggage or go through security in IAD.

  • International connection
    Jun 16, 2014
I booked a third party ticket from Dublin to Bogota via Heathrow and IAD. Virgin flight lands in iAd at 2.50pm this Thursday 19th June. Avianca flight departs 4.36pm. I am a UK citizen. I will not have any baggage and will check in for the avianca flight in advance. Do you think the 1h4min gap is sufficient to make the connection ?

  • Cancun Arrival - Copenhagen Departure.
    Jun 20, 2014
Hi All, I'm planning a trip, where I will be arriving from Cancun and departing for Copenhagen, Denmark. I would however only have 55 min. (according to flight plans) to connect... would this be too tight? As I am going International to International, do I still have to go through US Immigration, re-check my luggage etc.? Thanks.

If you purchase your tickets together they will be tagged through to Miami in Manila. When you get to Terminal 1 you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US customs, and then you can re-check your bags with Delta. Then you will take the AirTrain to Terminal 2 or Terminal 4 (check monitors, if departure gate begins with B it leaves from Terminal 4, if C it leaves from Terminal 2), then get your boarding pass if you don't already have it, then go through security and to your departure gate.

  • Connection to Boston
    Jun 16, 2014

Yes, but it leaves no time to spare if there are any delays.

  • Is 50 mins layover enough for connecting international flight
    Jun 1, 2014
We are flying with United from Nashville to IAD arriving at 9:00pm and connecting to London also on United flight departing IAD at 10:15pm. Will 50 mins layover time be sufficient? In the event the Nashville flight is late, will the United's London bound flight wait for us and what are our options if we miss the connected flights?

I am flying with an infant coming from Cleveland with and 1 hour layover in iad on our way to stbthomas. Both flights are with united. Will one hour be enough to get to my connecting flight?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will arrive in Concourse A, C, or D and depart from C or D. If you arrive in A you will have to take the aerotrain or mobile lounge to C or D.

  • Onward connection
    May 25, 2014
Im flying from dublin to iad with connection to st louis, what is the procedure when i land at iad. Bearing in mind i will have gone through CBP pre clearance at dublin.

Your arrival at IAD is considered to be a 'domestic arrival'. If both legs of the flight have been booked on one ticket, all you need to do is follow signs to your connecting flight, which depends on what airline you are taking. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iad then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • International Connecting flight
    May 21, 2014
Hi, i'm flying united airlines from London heathrow to Washington Dulles, and then on to united express flight to Charleston, if the plane lands i'll have 1 hour and 12 minutes to get on my connecting flight, A) is this enough time at IAD? B) will they transfer my bag so i can go straight to the gate instead of going through to check my bag in again?

No, that probably won't be enough time unless your flight gets in early. You will clear US Immigration in United's facility in concourse C/D, claim your bags, go through US customs, and then re-check your bags with United. Then you will go through security and to your gate, which may require a trip on the aerotrain or mobile lounge to concourse A.

flying in from DFW on united 9:00p catching a United flight to LHR at 9:50 p . Is that enough time? (my conf# document says Terminal E to Terminal I)

TE & TI are terminals at DFW (TI = Internat'l Terminal D). You are not clear which is your arrivals (IAD has Midfield Concouses A - D). For transfer options I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

You will likely both arrive and depart from the C/D concourse at IAD. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time. however, if your flight from DFW is late, you'll be stuck overnight in DFW. Luckily United flies a morning flight IAD-LHR so you won't be stuck a full day, just overnight.
