I fly from Copenhagen to Las Vegas I have a connecting flight from IAD to LAS Intervening time of 2:20 hrs Is it enough ? thanks

As long as both tickets are on the same reservation that should be enough time. You will arrive in the International arrivals building, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, go through security, and to your departure gate.

Thank you very much If I only take hand luggage to reduce duration of transit, is this possible on this type of flight?

Yes, only taking hand luggage will make it easier.

We are traveling from Dublin to Cancun with united have 90 minutes between flights. is this enough and can I book my bags direct from Dublin to Cancun. also coming back about the same transfer time. Will the bags be booked directly through

On your way to Cancun you will go through US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. Assuming all tickets are on the same reservation you won't have to do anything with your bags in Washington. On your return, in Washington you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk and go through security. On your way to Cancun you should have plenty of time and on your way back to Dublin you should have just enough time to connect in Washington.

Many thanks for your help. Checked again and we have 2 hours on the way back so all should be good. Thanks Again

I am flying from Ottawa to Beijing with stop-over in Washington Dulles Airport. I have only 50 minutes to transit with United Airlines. (i) will 50 minutes be ok for me to catch the next flight? Do I need to pick up my luggage at IAD and then check-in again?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Ottawa. You don't have to do anything with your bags in IAD. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time if your flight from Ottawa is on-time.

Hi, I'm flying from Montreal to San Fransisco through Washington Airport. Are 49 minutes enough to get my connection? What can I do if under unusual circumstances I miss my flight?

Yes, that is enough time if your first flight is on-time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. if you miss your connection due to your first flight being late you will be booked on the next available flight to San Francisco. United flies 10 daily flights from IAD to SFO.

    Thank you so much! :)

Hi, I am flying from Raleigh to Washington and have 1h18min before I continue my trip to London. Will that be enough? Thanks

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, assuming both flights are on United/United Express.

on my tickets is says that both flights are with Lufthansa, operated by United Airlines. So that should be fine then?

Yes, all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will both likely be on the C/D Concourse.

Hi I will be landing on IAD airport from Amsterdam on 20th Jan 03:45PM(operated by KLM). I need to catch a flight at 5:00 PM operated by Sun Air Express. Would the transit time enough?

I do not think that is enough time unless you plan on not checking bags. The minimum international to domestic connection time at IAD is 90 minutes.

Hello, we are flying from Oslo to London, then to Washington and finally to Mexico City on the 20th of december. We have 1 hour and 30 minutes in Washington to make the connection to our final flight, is this enough time?

That is barely enough time if all flights are on the same reservation. What airlines are you flying?

Hi I have a flight connection to Dubai at 10:15 am , and I am travelling from JAX to IAD is 9:05 am . Do I have sufficient time to catch the flight by 10:15 am at international gates. there is no connection between these two tickets.

Will you have checked bags? If both flights are on United you can have both boarding passes issued before you leave Jacksonville. If so then all you have to do in IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate and you should have enough time.

I'm a french citizen flying from Dakar (West Africa) to Cancun with South Africa Airline and have a Layover of 2h30 and then continue to Cancun with United Airlines. Can I check my luggages directly to Cancun or do I have to pick them up in Dulles and recheck with UA ?

In IAD you will arrive in the International Arrivals building, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and take the AeroTrain or Mobile lounge to the C or D concourse where you will depart.

Hi on Sunday I'm flying from London to IAD with a connection onwards to Tampa with a layover of 1hr30 I booked both flights together as a fixed price with United and both flights are with them, what's the process I have to do and go through as I've never done a connecting flight?is my layover time enough?bit confused thankyou

You will arrive in the C/D concourse, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, also in the C/D concourse. You should have enough time as long as your flight from London is on-time.

Okay thankyou this is a big help, so my luggage doesn't get handled itself and put onto my next flight, I have to pick it up instead?

Yes, you have to pick it up in order to go through US Customs, then you can immediately drop it back off at the re-check desk right afterwards.

  • Connect time long enough?

I am arriving, with United, from Brussels and need to continue to Denver with 1h26minutes connect time. Is this enough?

It's possible, but a little risky. it's 4 minutes shorter than the recommended international to domestic connection time.

We are 11 people who will be travelling together from Ottawa to Washington with a 56 minutes layover before our connecting flight from Washington to San Franscico. Will 56 minutes be enough time to make our connection? Also, if we go through customs in Ottawa do we need to go through customs again in Washington?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Ottawa. All you have to do in Washington is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

I am arrivng from Copenhagen on SK925 on 3.15PM and need to continue to Miami with AA1137 at 5.19PM - leaving me with 2 hrs. Is this enough? Thanks for any feedback :-)

Did you purchase your tickets together or separately? If together that should be plenty of time. If separately you will have to hurry and hope your flight is on-time. If separately, after you clear customs you will have to take your baggage to the AA ticket counter and check it to Miami (and pay a checked bag fee).
