  • International to Domestic Connection
    Jan 5, 2014
Hi. I arrive on a flight with SAA, then have to clear customs and recheck in before catching a United flight two hours later. I'm a little concerned about the time. This is do-able? the tickets were gifts and not changable. And what terminals would I be going between? Thanks!

If no serious delay in arrival, you should be able to make connection. In any case, after customs clearance & baggage re-check you will need to take the shuttle bus your connecting flight. (United uses Concourse C & D - I found no listing of SAA.

IAD only has one terminal. You will clear US Immigration in the International Arrivals Building, then re-check your bags and go through security and take the AirTrain or Mobile Lounge to Concourse A, C ,or D. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time but won't have much time to spare.

  • connection time
    Dec 30, 2014
My parents are flying United on Jan. 1 from Indianapolis to Dulles with a 50 minute connection time to make their United flight to Bahrain. Is this going to be enough time? Do you have any idea what concourse they will fly into and leave from?

They will arrive in A or C and depart from D. If they arrive in A they will have to take the mobile lounge to D but if they arrive in C they can just walk. Either way they won't have to go through any security and if their first flight is on-time they should have enough time.

  • International flight
    Dec 29, 2013
Have to change my flight in Dulles to an international flight. Portland, Maine > Dulles Dulles > Frankfurt, Germany I have 57 mins to change the flight. Is that enough?

At this time of the year you may also have to take flight delays into consideration. You arrival at, and departure from, IAD depends on which airline(s) you take. Also, on whether you bought both flights on one ticket - make sure that your first airline transfers bags to your second one. If not you would have claim bags & re-check them in. Most likely you arrive aat either A, B or C gates and will depart from D gates: The AeroTrain only serves gates: A1-32, B35-79, and C1-30; however, the C gates C1-30 & D gates D1-32 are connected by a walkway. With no flight delay & baggage transfer, you have enough time.

All you will have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate (assuming you bought your tickets on one reservation). You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Making the connection in an hour and a half from London to DFW
    Dec 28, 2013
Where can I call to check today if my passenger made the flight connection to Dallas US 3801- I have a shuttle arranged for pick up and need to know if my guest missed or not so I can release the driver in case my guest never made it.

Airlines cannot release that information. You'll have to get in touch with the passenger.

  • transferring checked baggage for connecting flight
    Dec 27, 2013
Arriving IAD on US Airways, connecting to Emirates, with only 1 and a half hours for transfer. Will my checked baggage get transferred in time?

If your tickets were bought on a single reservation and are checked through to Emirates, yes, that should be enough time.

  • 2 hours 3 mins enough time?
    Dec 25, 2013
We're flying in from Manchester airport and arrive in IAD at 14:05 and getting a connection flight at 16:08 to Denver.. We booked with United Airlines and I heard that we will have to collect our baggage and drop them off again.. Will we have enough time to do so? Bearing in mind we also have to go through customs and we have British passports

Yes. That should be enough time. Yes you will have to claim and recheck your bags but everything will be in united's facility in concourse D.

  • Connection concourse C to concourse S
    Dec 20, 2013
We are travelling to fort lauderdale via IAD and we need to go from concourse C to concourse D. As per the map it seems an easy walk; but I wanted to validate. Is it that easy? And is there any security clearance between the 2 concourses? Tx

They are directly connected. Other than the letters changing from C to D, you can't even really tell where C ends and D begins. There's no security between them.

  • 1 hour 20 minutes, enough?
    Dec 20, 2013
Hi, I'm booking a flight from San Francisco to Washington, it should arrive at 3.55 pm and my next flight to Europe would leave at 5.15 pm (which leaves 1 hour 20 minutes). Would that be enough time to transfer? Did I understand right, that once I do security in San Francisco I shouldn't pass through it again in DC, even if the flight is for Europe? Thanks

Yes, you will not have to go through security in Washington, just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will both be located on the C/D concourse.

  • Toronto, Can -> Washington -> Dublin, Ire
    Dec 19, 2013
I have 50 minutes to connect in Washington for a flight to Dublin, Ireland. I'm an Irish citizen but I will have cleared US immigration in Toronto, both flights are with United. Will I be OK to make my connection?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will depart from the C/D concourse and may arrive in either A, C, or D. If you arrive in A you will have to take the AeroTrain or Mobile Lounge to your departure gate in C/D.

  • IAD Terminal Times
    Dec 16, 2013
Is it possible to make an hour connection coming in from Nashville and then flying international?

If your first flight is on-time, yes. All gates at IAD are connected beyond security via the AeroTrain and mobile lounge.

  • Arriving on Lufthansa continue with UA to IAH
    Dec 5, 2013

    2 Hours should be sufficient.

  • savannah to munich
    Dec 4, 2013
Hi ! I'm arriving from Savannah to IAD on the 12th dec at 16.15 and flying to Munich at 17.20. Both flights are United Airlines. Will I have enough time to get the Munch flight? Do I need to clear security at IAD or to claim my baggage for the flight to Munich?

All you will have to do at IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Your flight from SAV could arrive in concourse A, C, or D and your departure to Munich will be from C or D. If you arrive in A you will have to take the AeroTrain or Mobile Lounge between gates, but it runs inside security.

If I go through security will I have enough time to get the Munich flight? How can I find out to now to which gate will I arrive ? Thank you for your info :)

You will not have to go through security. All gates at IAD are connected beyond security. You will not know the exact arrival gate until the day of your flight. If you download the United mobile app to your phone or use their mobile website you can check the gate before your flight departs from Savannah.

  • Connection time at IAD
    Dec 2, 2013
Arriving at IAD from YOW with only 50 minutes to connect to flight to PIT. Is that enough time? Will I have to go through customs in IAD and re-check my bags for connecting flight to PIT?

You will pre-clear US Immigration in Ottawa and your bags will be checked through to PIT. All you have to do at IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you need to go between concourse A and Concourse C/D you will need to take the AeroTrain or Mobile Lounge.

  • OKC to IAD then1:02 hr connection to MUC (Munich)
    Dec 1, 2013
I arrive at IAD from OKC at 4:13 p.m. Jan. 9th, 2014, flight UA3697. Depart to Munich MUC 5:15 p.m., flight UA132. Is one hour enough time to make the connection? What terminals are these likely to be at? Thanks in advance.

IAD only has one terminal. Your flight from OKC will likely arrive in Concourse C/D and your flight to Munich will also depart from C/D. Yes, if your first flight is on-time you should have enough time.

  • Concourses for United Express flights
    Dec 1, 2013
I will be flying UA6054 EWR to IAD Dec. 23 and connecting to UA5749 to SAV. Both are United Express flights. Layover time is less than an hour. Any idea what concourse(s) my flights will be arriving and departing at IAD and will this be enough time for the connection?

It appears that 6054 EWR-IAD always arrives in C (although Embraer Regional Jets do arrive in A sometimes, so it's not a guarantee that it will arrive in C). 5749 has departed from A, D, and C within the past 2 weeks, so it's a total crapshoot. If you have to get to A, the mobile lounge and Aerotrain connect it to C and D. If your first flight is on-time you should have enough time.
