I have a commuter arrival at Gate B and have a connecting flight out of Gate D (exact gates TBD)- How long does it take to get from Gate B to Gate D? I have a 1 hr 39 min layover, but most likely arrival at Gate B will be delayed if history repeats itself...
What airlines are you flying? Are both flights on the same reservation? Do you have checked bags?
Flying United, no checked bags.
United doesn't use concourse B at IAD. They use A for some commuter flights. All mainline flights and some commuter flights use concourses C and D.
Sorry! Was mistaken- read my info wrong- state college pa commuter coming in on A, leaving for Seattle from D.... no checked luggage- how long would it take to go from A to D? Flight from State College will most likely be delayed in coming in.
It takes about 15 minutes to get from A to D on the Mobile Lounge or AeroTrain.
My airline has changed my flights and is now offering flights from Cancun to London Heathrow via Dulles airport. The flights that have been offered allow 1.5hr between arrival and takeoff at Dulles. We will have checked and hand luggage and both flights are operated by United Airlines. Will 1.5hrs be enough time and will we need to go through customs???
Yes, that is enough time if everything goes smoothly. Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate.
Actually, you don't have to re-check your bags at the re-check desk. There's a bag drop where you'll take your bags to. Waiting for your bags to arrive at customs and getting through a long customs line can be time consuming, but the bag drop takes 5 seconds. You'll have to go through security again (pain in the rear). I agree that 90 minutes should be sufficient if everything goes without a hitch. But if you get a 1 hour immigration line, then start to pray.
Headed to Orlando from Ottawa, on a golf trip, with a 1hour layover at IAD. Just wondering if it'll be enough time and if I have to claim my checked baggage (golf clubs) and recheck it between flights? I'm flying United for both legs and will pre-clear customs in Ottawa.
You don't have to claim your bags in Washington DC if it's all one reservation.
I booked a flight for my girlfriend from SEA to IAD (UA) and then onto Toronto (YYZ) with Air Canada. She has a 41 min layover in IAD - is this enough time? Will she need to go through security? She needs to get to a wedding!
If both flights are on the same reservation all she has to do is go from her arrival gate to her departure gate. She has just enough time.
Folks, on Sunday March 5 will get IAD from Munich at 7.40 pm (LH414). have connecting flight to ATL at 10 pm. Guess it's enough time if things go smooth. However, shall I clear immigration in IAD and pass again through security at domestic terminal or is that possible to go from one gate to another inside security area? Will have carry on only, no checked baggage. THX
You will go to the International Arrivals Building, go through US Immigration, go through US Customs, and go through security to your departure gate.
In February we will travel through Dulles on the way to the South Pacific. Will probably be wearing a coat that I do not want to lug to Tahiti. Any storage options available at Dulles? TY!!

My return journey from Orlando MCO to London with a 1 hour stop at IAD. I am flying with United for both flights. Is this enough time? Its a late evening flight. As its the same airline will I have to reclaim my luggage and check in whilst at IAD or is it a simple go from arrivals to my departure area?
That is enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
I am flying in from Narita (UA 804) arriving IAD 3:40pm. Worried about going thru immigration/US Custom with one checked bag (I am a US citizen, not sure it this will speed up?), re-echeck in and take the shuttle to my connecting flight back to Philadelphia in D gate at 5pm. Is the connection time of 1 hour 20 minutes enough?
Being a US Citizen does speed up immigration. You have enough time if the flight from Tokyo is on-time.
July 11, arriving from AMS with UA at 2.35 pm, on to Den with UA departure 4.08 pm. Checked luggage and visiting so will need to go thru immigration. Also have asked for wheelchair assistance due to mobility issues. Will we have enough time?
That should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly.
