  • 52 Minute Layover

I am flying in from Richmond (on United Express) and flying out to Tampa (on United). Any idea if they will be in the same concourse? If not, should I be okay in terms of time?

Your RIC-IAD flight will arrive in Concourse A and your flight to Tampa will depart from Concourse C or D. Take the Aerotrain if it's from C and the shuttle if it's from D. You should be OK on time if your flight from Richmond is on time.

I am flying from New Orleans /United/ to Vienna, Austria /Austrian Airlines/. I have layover 70 minute, is it real? Thanks.

At IAD, United uses Concourses A, B, C & D (with corresponding gates) of the main Terminal, while Austrian AL uses Concourse B. If not arriving at Concourse D, you can walk from Concourse A to Concourse B (they are divided by the underground Aerotrain in the center, where you can connect to Concourse C. If needing to connect to Concourse D, you can use the walkway at D gates to C gates. Either way you have enough time - unless United does not transfer your bags to Austrian AL, in which case you would have to get first to the main terminal, claim your bags & re-check them in with Austrian, before walking over to your connecting B gates.

United will transfer your bags, they're in the same alliance.

  • US Customs Clearance

I am flying from Grand Cayman to IAD and clear customs at IAD. I have a 1hr37min layover. Will I have enough time to clear customs and catch my next flight?

On arrival at IAD you wille transported to the Iternational Arrivals Bldg. at west end of Main Terminal for TSA clearance (Passport control, bag pickup, customs clearance, & bag recheck-in). Thereafter you need to take the shuttle bus to D gates or the or the AeroTrain to theA, B & C gates. Your transfer time could be tight, depending on waiting lines and incoming flight delay. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iad,then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text.

My husband, my 2 kids (18-yr old & 4-yr old) & myself will have a connecting flight at Dulles IAD from Miami going to Beijing. We only have a 50-minute layover to get to our next flight. Both flights are on United Air. Any suggestions on how to navigate the airport the fastest way?

You will likely arrive in Concourse D and depart from Concourse C. They are two sides of the same terminal corridor. You just walk from D to C. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

Thanks so much for your reply. Now I feel better.

  • from eithad airway to united

My parents are traveling on April 28 th 2013 from eithad airways coming from Abu Dubai @ 5.00 pm ... And then they have to catch united airline for Detroit and there is 2 hours lay over ... But i am not sure if it is enough time for them to catch there domestic flight ... Plz let me know , thanks .. both are separate tickets ..

It will help if they check in online for their flight to DTW before they leave. Abu Dhabi. They will have to claim their baggage in T5, then take it to T1 and re-check it with United since they are on different tickets. (I'm assuming this connection is in Chicago). 2 Hours is doable, but tight to do all that.

my mom will flight from roanoke virgina to washington dulles by united airline 3422 on feb/10/ 2013 , she will connect to ANA airline NH1 , what is the terminal and the gate ANA ussully depart from washington dulles ?

ANA uses concourse B (around gate B46). Her ROA-IAD flight will probably arrive in concourse A, so it's a pretty easy walk.

  • Is Harry's Taproom outside security area

Looking for a place to meet friends arriving on same afternoon. Can we get bags and then meet at Harry's Tap Room in the main terminal?

Harry's Tap Room (tel. 703-572-4699) is listed as being at level U (must be below the arrivals level).

  • Quickest way to get from c to a gates

What is the fastest way to get from c14 gate to a4b gate?

On arrival at IAD, follow signs 'TO BAGGAGE CLAIM / GROUND TRANSPORTATION'; domestic arrivals at A, B or C gates should follow the AeroTrain sign. The Aerotain serves gates A1-32 & C1-30.

I have a flight from Greensboro airport to IAD however i am worried 45 minutes will not be enough time in between my flight. Anyone that has went or been to this airport, is this time possible?

If using one Airline for both legs of your journey, you should easily be able to make your transfer within 45 mins. If you have a different airline for your connection, you need to contact your first one to find out if they transfer your bags - if not, you need to take your bags to the connecting airline counter and check them in before proceeding to your gate. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iad then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • United: SFO - IAD - AMS

I'm flying from San Francisco to Amsterdam with a 1hr45min stop in Dulles. Both legs are United. If I check a bag, will I need to collect it and re-check it at Dulles? Additionally, will I have to go through security again at Dulles?

My second question about going through security again is if I decide NOT to check a bag. I'm assuming that going out to baggage claim to retrieve a checked bag will require going through security again. Thanks in advance!

As you use United for both legs of your journey, your bags will be automatically transferred. As United uses Midfield Concourses A, B, C & D with corresponding gates, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iad - then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • How long to walk from A4B to A1C?
    Dec 17, 2012
    1
Seems like gates A4B and A1C would be relatively close together but since I am not sure, I was hoping someone here may know. There are 3 of us (me, my boyfriend and our 2 year old which will probably be carried as we only have like an hour to catch connecting flight). Someone please tell me asap how long it'd take to get between those gates and best possible route. Thanks!

You arrive & depart from Midfield Concourse A, simply follow signs to your connecting gate which should take minutes.

  • Dulles to Amsterdam

My daughter is flying by herself for first time (18 yrs old). Arrives Dulles from SFO on 12/25/12 at 3:49pm. Has KLM flight #652 for Amsterdam at 6:15pm. Luggage NOT checked thru from United to KLM. Don't know which concourse/gate the United flight will arrive & don't know where KLM counter & gates are? Does she have enough time to get her luggage from United, check in at KLM & get to her KLM gate? Any info is helpful for this nervous dad. Thanks

    1. United uses Domestic Midfield Concourses A, B & C with corresponding gates. KLM uses Concourse A. Both A & B concourses can be reached by foot from the Main Terminal, while Concourse C needs the AeroTrain. 2. On arrival at IAD your daughter needs to follow signs "TO BAGGAGE CLAIM / GROUND TRANSPORTATION" and go to the Main Terminal's lower baggage level & pick up her bags, then proceed to the upper level and check in her bag with KLM; thereafter, she needs to take the passenger walkway to the A gates. 4. I suggest that she opens www.ifly.com/iad, click on "Terminal Map" under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text. She should pay attention to 'International Arrivals' for her return trip. An 18-year old can easily handle this! And she has plenty of time. for transfer.

    Thank you

  • Rome to Ottawa via IAD

My father travels from Rome to Ottawa via Washington (IAD) on December 14th. He has 2h10min between flights UA967 and UA6012. What is the fastest way to change terminals? Is there enough time? Thank you.

IAD has no flight number listing. United uses Midfield Concourses A, B, C & D. He will also have to go through customs clearance before proceeding to his connecting gate. His boarding gate will indicate his connecting concourse & gate. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iad, then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text. His time should suffice.

  • From Framnkfurt to Mexico city

I am flying via IAD from Frankfurt (Lufthansa) to Mexico city (United Airlines) and I only have 1.45 min for connecting the flight. Is this enough time in 19 of December? What is the faster way to change terminals.?

    1. Lufthansa will arrive at Concourse B of the passenger Terminal; follow signs 'TO BAGGAGE CLAIM / GROUND TRANSPORTATION' - international arrivals will board the shuttle bus to US Customs where you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bag where indicated. From there you will need to board the shuttle bus to your connecting gate. 2. The Main Terminal has two parallel Midfield Concourses with corresponding gates - A/B & C/D - United uses all concourses. Your ticket & the overhead screens will indicate your flight number & gate: (A gates A1-32; B gates B35-79; C gates C1-30 or D gates D1-32.) Your transfer time should suffice.

  • United to SAS enough time to transfer
    Dec 5, 2012

Traveling from Los Angeles via United then have 1:51 to conect to SAS flight to Copenhagen. Anyone knows how long does it take to transfer from United to SAS terminal. My bags should be going directly to Copenhagen. No need to pick them up. is there enought time to transfer?

At IAD, United uses midfield concourses A/B & C/D with corresponding gates. A, B & C gates are connected by the underground Aerotrain making a continuous loop and service gates A1-32, B35-79, and C1-30. (If you arrive at D gates, take the walkway to the C gates and from there, if needed, take the connecting Aerotrain. (follow signs). You have enough time.
