Arriving 3:45pm on a Friday on a flight from Tokyo. U.S. citizen with no checked bags. How long is needed to get through customs and out the front door of the terminal? Trying to determine if I can catch a bus into DC in time to catch a ride home or if I need to make other arrangements.

I imagine you'll probably be out by 4:30 if your flight is on-time.

I am coming from Atlanta to Washington D.C. at Gate A5 on 5th Jun, And need to Catch a connecting flight for Frankfurt at Gate C1. And in between time is 45 min. Would that be sufficient. I don't have to checking baggage.

It's possible, but leaves no time to spare.

I'm just wondering how this went for you! I have a similar situation on Tuesday (C2 to A2) and 47 minutes to make my connection.

We arrive on June 2 on United at Dulles at 4:11. We connect to Aer Lingus, departing at 5:20. Do we have to clear any further security or can we just go to the gate. Have bags and boarding passes for Aer Lingus.

You can just go directly to your departure gate if your bags are tagged through to Aer Lingus.

Hello, do you think 1:40 is enough time to land from Tokyo, clear customs, go through security again and catch a flight to Ottawa? It's a Sunday afternoon and I have no checked luggage. Thanks!!!

Yes, that should be just about enough time.

I am wondering if a 1hr 50min stopover is enough to make a connecting flight to Kansas from Dulles? I will just have hand luggage? TIA

That should be enough time. you will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Dublin.

    That you for the reply.

We are flying with United from Orlando connecting at IAD with a flight to Manchester UK, with a stopover time of 2 hours 27 mins. Is this enough time?

Yes, all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on the C/D concourse.

I will be flying from Vienna to Seattle with a 1:10 hr connection at IAD. Will that be enough time to clear customs and make it to my flight to Seattle?

I forgot to mention that the flight is actually Vienna to Brussels, then an United flight from Brussels to IAD, then IAD to Seattle, all on the same ticket.

No, that is 20 minutes shorter than the minimum international to domestic connection time at IAD. However, with no checked bags It wouldn't necessarily be impossible.

    Thank you.

You won't even have to go through security. You just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I am connecting from Sao Paulo to Ottawa via IAD. Will I need to collect my check in luggage? Also, will I need to go through immigration or is immigration held at the Canadian border? Many thanks!

Yes, at IAD you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. When you arrive in Ottawa you will go through Canadian Immigration and Customs.

I am flying from ATL to IAD, and then to Rome, Italy. I have a connector that is only 52 minutes. Will I have enough time to make my flight to Italy? And, will that give baggage claim enough time to transfer my checked bags from my first plane to my second? I don't want to be in Italy with no clothes!

Yes, all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate if both flights are on the same reservation. You should have enough time.

My Untied flight from Louisville KY allows one hour forty three minutes to board my United international flight to Barcelona. Is this enough time and do I go through security checks again?

That is enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You do not have to go through security.

  • From Ottawa to Portland connecting @IAD

I have reservation from United Airlines from Ottawa to Portland connecting at IAD. I only have 1 hour and 10 mins. My US customs and immigration would be cleared at Ottawa, Canada. When I reach IAD, do I need to claim luggage and re-check? How long this typically takes? Is this time frame good enough for claiming baggage, re-check and clearing security? Thank you for the attention.

You don't have to do anything with your bags at IAD or go through security. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

Thanks a lot! IAD website doesn't explain the process for Pre screened passengers. So, I was a bit nervous.

But when I called up United customer care they said if if you are Pre-screened, you still have to claim baggage and re-check. Is that correct?

That is incorrect - they are confused.

I am travelling from New Orleans with United to IAD arriving mid afternoon Sunday with 2.5 hours to connect to a BA flight to Heathrow. I have luggage to check . Will I need to collect my luggage and go through security at IAD and will I have enough time to do it. Any comments very welcome

If your tickets are on two separate reservations, yes, you will have to claim your bags, re-check them with British Airways, and go back through security. You have barely enough time if everything goes smoothly.

    Thank you that's very helpful
