Our flight from Ottawa just got bumped an hour, making our connection to San Fran only 37 minutes. Is this possible?
Yes, that's still possible. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Ottawa. Although it doesn't leave much time to spare. You could call United and ask to be rebooked through Chicago for a longer layover.
Hi, i'll be travelling from Toronto to Tokyo via IAD. I'll have no checked bags and will have 52 minutes between my flights. The YYZ-IAD leg is operated By Mesa Airlines Dba United Express, and the IAD - NRT United. Would anyone know if the gates are close to each other? Will I have enough time to get to my 2nd flight?
If your flight from Toronto is not delayed, you'll make it. Just walk fast. I have no idea how you're traveling from Toronto to Tokyo with just a carry on.
I am coming in from Raleigh, NC on United and taking a cone ting flight to Tokyo with 1 hour between flight . Do I have enough time and what would the terminal be ? Does United have a section of a concord ?
Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. I don't understand your second question.
Hello: Would it be possible to make this connection: Arrive on VS international flight to IAD, connect to UA domestic flight with a scheduled 1h35m layover, on separately booked (award) tickets? US citizen, with checked luggage, traveling premium cabin. Thanks very much for the advice.
It's pretty risky with checked baggage, even flying Business class. I won't say it's impossible though.
Thanks for the helpful advice. Incidentally the UA website will price an itinerary (UA connecting to UA) also with exactly the same 1h35m connection. Possibly because of the schedule padding (these flights from LHR on UA and VS are on average arriving ~30m early). But given separate tickets I will look for an alternative. Thank you again so much.
Yes, with one booking you also don't need to worry about making a bag check cutoff for the second flight.
Final question on this: If same connection and details, but carry on bag (not checked) would this two-ticket itinerary be possible? thank you
Canadian flying from Ottawa to Tokyo connecting through IAD. I have an hour and 3 minutes. Is there anything I can do to be sure I make this flight? I can avoid checked bags if it saves a lot of time. I also want to know more about "pre-clearing" customs, how do I go about doing this? If I don't make the flight, what are my options? Do credit cards usually cover that sort of thing? I don't know why they would offer a flight with such little connection time.
For the record, it's all booked on one itinerary (one reference/booking number) and both legs of this flight are operated by United however the second leg is with All Nippon so I'll likely have to change terminals.
If you're flying to the U.S. from Canada, then you will pass through U.S. immigration and customs at the port of departure in Canada. You'll essentially be traveling to the U.S. as if it were a domestic flight. Since you booked the entire flight through United and you'll be on a domestic flight, your baggage will be automatically transferred to your next flight so not checking in bags won't save you time. With an hour, you should have plenty of time to make your next flight, assuming no significant delays out of Ottawa, even with a terminal change.
I have a commuter arrival at Gate B and have a connecting flight out of Gate D (exact gates TBD)- How long does it take to get from Gate B to Gate D? I have a 1 hr 39 min layover, but most likely arrival at Gate B will be delayed if history repeats itself...
What airlines are you flying? Are both flights on the same reservation? Do you have checked bags?
Flying United, no checked bags.
United doesn't use concourse B at IAD. They use A for some commuter flights. All mainline flights and some commuter flights use concourses C and D.
Sorry! Was mistaken- read my info wrong- state college pa commuter coming in on A, leaving for Seattle from D.... no checked luggage- how long would it take to go from A to D? Flight from State College will most likely be delayed in coming in.
It takes about 15 minutes to get from A to D on the Mobile Lounge or AeroTrain.
My airline has changed my flights and is now offering flights from Cancun to London Heathrow via Dulles airport. The flights that have been offered allow 1.5hr between arrival and takeoff at Dulles. We will have checked and hand luggage and both flights are operated by United Airlines. Will 1.5hrs be enough time and will we need to go through customs???
Yes, that is enough time if everything goes smoothly. Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate.
Actually, you don't have to re-check your bags at the re-check desk. There's a bag drop where you'll take your bags to. Waiting for your bags to arrive at customs and getting through a long customs line can be time consuming, but the bag drop takes 5 seconds. You'll have to go through security again (pain in the rear). I agree that 90 minutes should be sufficient if everything goes without a hitch. But if you get a 1 hour immigration line, then start to pray.
