  • Luggage in a connecting flight (United)

I have a flight from Harrisburg to Toronto with a connexion in IAD, my connection time is 1 hour 15 minutes, do i need to pick up my luggage in Washington? will it be enough time? I am spanish, so would i need to pass inmigration again? (i will arrive to JFK one week before) thank you in advance

No, you will not have to claim your luggage or go through Immigration. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All gates are connected inside security. You will go through Canadian immigration when you get to Toronto.

    Thank u so much.

I'm flying from Orlando MCO to Copenhagen, but will exactly have one hour layover in Dulles Washington assuming no delays. I'll be flying with the United Airlines from MCO to Dulles Wash, and fly with Airbus industry A340-300. Is this enough time to transfer in between flights?

*I am European by the way, leaving the United States.

That should be enough time. You will have to take the AeroTrain from concourse C or D where you will arrive to concourse B where your SAS flight to Copenhagen will depart. You will not have to go through security or do anything with your baggage.

i arrive today at 1555 in IAD from frankfurt and need to catch a flight to mexico city at 1715 from IAD. bought the tickets separately so need to get luggage checked back in, is this feasible ?

No, that is not feasible. You should have not bought this connection.

  • Please can someone tell me where I would clear customs

I am flying from LHR to Tyson Mcghee airport via\ Dulles. Where would I clear customs on the return flight (Tyson McGhee to Dulles then to London) Would I go through customs at Tyson Mcghee or Dulles airport? Also I have a 1 hour and 50 minute layover in Dulles coming back to London. Is this enough time? My flights are UA3385 and UA 918 flying 23 june.Thank you in advance.

On your flight to London you will only go through UK Immigration when you get to London. There is no such thing as US Exit Immigration or customs. All you have to do in Dulles on your way to London is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All gates at Dulles are connected inside security.

Thank you ZAP. So what happens when I go to Tyson Mcghee airport, what do I have to do/where do I go? (Have not flown before!). Also please could you tell me if 2 and a half hours layover in Dulles airport on outgoing flight (London to Dulles to Tyson Mcghee) qill be long enough for me to get connecting flight after going through customs/immigration? Flights LH 9266 9 June 16.20 then flight LH9312 at 22.00? Would the gates be close together? Many thanks in advance

When you arrive in Knoxville from London you will just go to the baggage claim, get your bags, and walk out the door. When you arrive at the Knoxville airport for your trip to London, you will just go to the United check-in counter to check your bags and get your boarding passes, then go through security. Yes, you should have enough time for your connections. Just follow signs at Dulles between your arrival and departing gates.

Thank you very much ZAP. Much appreciated!

Please could you tell me if I have to collect my luggage at Washington on my outward flight and recheck it in again before I get on the plane to Knoxville or will my baggage go straight from London to Knoxville? I have phoned the airlines and have been told two different things!

  • Ottawa - Washington - Orlando

Hi, I'm looking at a United flight from Ottawa to Orlando VIA Dulles... It's showing me a 47 min layover. 7:33 AM arrive and 8:20 AM depart. Is this realistically enough time? I realize that Ottawa has US customs, so I don't have to go through security again, right?

...and what's the chance that my bags will or will not make it on the flight with me ;)

Correct, you will not have to go through security in Dulles. I think you stand a fair chance of making it if the first flight is on-time.

Thank you! That's what I'm hoping too!

looking at buying tickets for 1/1/16 travel. Leaving BRU UA flight 951 arriving IAD at 2:55 pm. Departing UA flight 939 for Phoenix at 5:05 pm. Is this enough time

Yes, that should be enough time.

One other question what about leaving on December 19. Leaving Phx UA flight 316 arrives IAD 4:05 pm then dea Parts for brussels at 5:50 pm UA FLIGHT 950. Is 1 hr 45 minute connection time ok

Yes, that would be plenty of time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in the C/D concourse.

  • 50 minute connection, is it enough?

Hi, I'm arriving from KL651 from Amsterdam to Dulles, and I have a connecting national flight of US airways 5107 to Charlotte. Is 50 minutes enough to make this?

Absolutely NOT! You need at least 2.5 hours if purchasing two separate tickets. If you have already booked this you need to change it as soon as possible.

Thanks! I changed it to a flight later, which gives me 2 hours and 20 minutes. Should be doable if I do it only with a carry-on, right? Or should I change one to even later. I still have a few hours to do so, if it has to be done.

This has had me all stressed out, so I said screw it, and changed it to a 8 PM flight, giving me 4.5 hours. No more worries now, I hope.

  • RDU -> IAD -> GVA

We're flying from RDU to IAD and have 1:05 hr before the flight to Geneva leaves. Is that enough time, do we stay in the same terminal?

IAD only has one terminal and all gates are connected inside security. You will depart from the C/D concourse and could arrive in C/D or A. If you arrive in A, you can take the Aerotrain or mobile lounge to your departure concourse. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • DC to Montreal - 43 Minute connection

I am flying into IAD and arrive at 4:22 PM. I have 43 minutes to catch my flight to Montreal, which departs at 5:05 PM. I am doing carry-on only. Will I have enough time to make my flight to Montreal?

If your first flight is domestic, it's doable, but difficult. All gates at IAD are connected inside security.

My first flight is domestic, but when I get to IAD I'll be flying into Canada. Do you know if United is all in one terminal?

IAD only has one Terminal. All gates are connected inside security.

I'm flying Toronto to Dubai, via Dulles with a 58 minute layover to change planes in Dulles. Is that enough time to make the connection? What happens if the flight from Toronto is delayed? I am stressed about not making it back to work on time.

all the flights are on United

That is enough time if the first flight is on-time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. If you miss your flight you will be put on the flight to Dubai the next day. There are no other flights out that night to that part of the world.

  • LHR to Orlando and Orlando to LHR connections

Hi, Does the following schedule allow enough time for transfers? I'm a bit concerned that both are cutting it a bit fine? United: Heathrow via Houston to Orlando UA 5 07APR LHR-IAH 1340 1800 UA 1580 07APR IAH-MCO 1933 2247 United: Orlando via Washington to Heathrow UA 1106 10APR MCO-IAD 1858 2110 UA 924 07APR IAD-LHR 2155 #1020

Both connections leave enough time. In Houston you will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, and go through security and to your departure gate, which will likely be in Terminal C. In Washington all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will both be in the C/D concourse.

Im flying from London Heathrow into IAD on a connecting flight to Orlando, What is the procedure When landing in IAD, Will I have to pick up my bags and check in again?

Assuming both flights are on United, you will arrive in the C/D concourse, go through US Immigration in the facility there, then claim your bags, go through US Customs, then go through security and to your departure gate which will also be in the C/D concourse.

I will be flying from YUL to IAD and then HNL on United for all flights. The connection time between IAD and HNL is 1h10. Is it enough? I will have checked-in bags. Do I have to claim bags and re-checked in again? I guess that custom will be pre-cleared at YUL, am I right?

Yes, you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. All you have to do in IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If your first flight is on-time you should have plenty of time.

What's happen if I missed my connection saying that the immigration/custom takes too long? I'm flying from Canada and need to change plane in IAD. I will be flying with United for all flights. Is United will re-booked without fees?

Yes, if you miss your connection due to immigration delays you will be rebooked without a change fee on the next available flight. However, note that when coming from most places in Canada you pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Canada.

I was wondering where I will have to clear security and customs if I begin my journey in Columbus, flying to Heathrow via Washington? I only have an hour stopover time in Washington and I'm concerned i could get held up at customs or security?

You do not go through US Customs or Security when leaving the US. All you have to do in Washington on your way to London is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
