  • enough time between flights?
    Aug 21, 2015
I am landing in Washington at 1545 on Sept 6th. Then taking flight to Ottawa, Canada @1716. is there enough time to make the flight and can you walk to the departing gate going to Ottawa

Where are you coming from on the first flight?

Then yes, that should be enough time. You will arrive in concourse C and depart from concourse C as well.

arriving on small United Express plane from Buf; which concourse would they normally use? connecting to United flt ro Rome; concourse? Layover 1 hr 6 min @ 5:20 pm Is this enough? Thx!

The United Express plane will probably use C or D, most BUF flights arrive there. A small handful arrive in A. Your Rome flight will depart from C or D.

  • Connection MCO-IAD-FRA

Arriving from Orlando at 4:00pm (United). Departing at 6:05pm (Lufthansa). Booked the ticket online (Lufthansa Website). Do they print my boarding passes all the way to Frankfurt in Orlando or do I have to re-check-in in IAD? What If I miss the flight to Frankfurt due to a delay of the MCO-IAD flight? Will I be rebooked on the IAD-MUC later in the evening?

Yes, you will receive both boarding passes in Orlando and your bags will be checked through to Frankfurt. You should have plenty of time for your connection. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate in C/D to your departure gate in B. If your flight from Orlando is heavily delayed you will probably be rebooked on the 10:05 PM United flight to Frankfurt.

  • Connection Lufthansa to United through Dulles
    Aug 19, 2015
I am connecting from Frankfort on Lufthansa to Washington Dulles and then on United to LAX. I have 1 hour and 25 minutes between flights after arriving at 3:50 pm on a Friday. Will that be enough time to clear customs and get to my United flight?

It's 5 minutes shorter than the recommended International to domestic connection time at IAD, especially coming off a Lufthansa flight as you will be processed at the International Arrivals Building and then have to go back out to concourse C or D where your flight to LAX will depart after going through security.

  • Connection LHR - IAD - CHS

Looking at booking a flight from London Heathrow to Charleston over christmas. the connection time at IAD is 1 hour 15 minutes. Same ticket for both flights, domestic flgiht operated by MESA. Is this enough time to connect? What happen's if I miss it?

It's possible, but it's 15 minutes below the minimum recommended time. if you miss it you will be rebooked on the next available flight to Charleston.

Is the airport usually bussy on the 17th of december. I would have a 1hr connection time, comming in from Montreal and going to Mexico City.

  • Connection at IAD
    Aug 17, 2015
I will be travelling on 27th Aug, 2015 via United to IAD from GSO for my international connection to FRA & DEL. The arrival details at IAD is United 4847 9:03PM and the departure to FRA is at 10:05PM (United 932). 1) Is it good enough overlap time to catch my flight with checked in bags (both: checked-in bags and I, get the flight) 2) What is United 4847 arrival time in recent days (does it remain on time generally!)

Yes, that should be enough time. Currently UAL 4847 is a mid afternoon Charleston-IAD-Rochester flight. The evening GSO-IAD flight is currently 4833 which has an 8:44 PM scheduled arrival time. It has arrived on-time 14 of the 16 days it has operated so far in August.

  • NRT-IAD-DTW Connection
    Aug 16, 2015
I'm traveling into IAD from Tokyo NRT arriving at 3:45 PM (I've heard this is rush hour for immigration). Our connection to DTW departs at 5:23 PM, all tickets were bought together from United. Will we make our connection? What is the process at immigration? Is there a line for those making connections? Any additional advice is appreciated as I'm travelling with my wife and son who have never travelled. This is also my first time through IAD.

You will arrive in the C/D concourse and go through US Immigration in United's facility there, then claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, which could be in C, D, or A. You should barely have enough time. There is no special line for connections since most passengers will have connections.

  • 90 mins layover btw united and Lufthansa in Decemeber
    Aug 16, 2015
I'm travelling from Denver to Frankfurt via IAD on December 11th. I have 90 mins layover.I will check my bags till Frankfurt . So will that be enough keeping in mind the month of December.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. All you have to do in Dulles is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Making a Connection
    Aug 15, 2015
Is 1 hour between arrival and departure enough time to make a flight connection between B gates (Alaska) and A gates (Air France) on a Thu evening?

If they were purchased on the same reservation that is enough time as all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate. However, if you purchased two separate reservations that will not be possible.

  • 2 hour layover in IAD for international flight - enough?
    Aug 12, 2015
Hi, I'm flying on Friday from MEX to ZRH via IAD. Both flights are United and I have a 2:15 layover. Is it likely to be enough? On my way in I flew United through EWR and the layover took 2.5 hours..so I'm worried about missing my flight! Thanks a lot.

IAD is a lot better than EWR. You should have enough time.

Flying into IAD on American from Miami and flying out with BA to London. Seperate Tickets but as both OneWorld Alliance can Bags be checked all the way to London at American Check in in Miami or do I have to collect and checkin again at Washington. THX

You will have to show your BA confirmation to the AA agent in Miami and hope they are accommodating. Otherwise you will have to claim them in Miami and re-check.

Sorry, claim them in Dulles and re-check.

Thanks for your reply. So a little bit hit and miss then, nothing definite. Shame, thought this was the point of an Alliance.

  • 50 min layover
    Aug 11, 2015
Hi, I am considering to book a ORD-IAD-DXB with United. It has only 50 min layover at IAD. Will that be enough to catch the next flight?

Yes, if your first flight is on-time that is enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on the C/D concourse.

  • Layover time international connection
    Aug 11, 2015
We will arrive at IAD on Lufthansa from FRA at 3:55 pm and depart on a United domestic flight at 5:05 pm, giving us 1 hour 45 min. Will that be enough time to get through passport/customs and get to a domestic terminal for our connection?

Correction - will depart on United at 5:40 pm

It should be enough time. Dulles only has one terminal.

  • Connecting time - JAX to IAD then IAD to YYZ - 36 minues?
    Aug 11, 2015
I was wondering if someone could help me determine if the following connecting times are feasible: Flight from JAX to IAD - arriving @ 9:32 Flight from IAD to YYZ - departing @ 10:08 Only 36 minutes between to connect. Is that enough? How far is the arriving terminal from the departing terminal? It's just for one person.

To add to this, both flights are united. Arriving flight: Flight operated by MESA AIRLINES doing business as UNITED EXPRESS. Departing flight: Flight operated by TRANS STATES AIRLINES doing business as UNITED EXPRESS.

It is possible. You will likely arrive and depart in the C/D concourse although you may depart from the A concourse. If you depart in the A concourse it will be a bit more difficult. Also, is this AM or PM? If it's AM I would try it - there's other flights to Toronto. If it's PM I would be more hesitant as a missed connection would mean spending the night in Dulles.

Hi ZAP. Thanks for replying. I was just going through the messages here and i noticed you are very active on this website and have been helping people with these kinds of questions since 2013 so thanks a lot for that. In my case, the flight was in the evening, and the 10:08 flight was the last flight of the day. I decided against risking it and booked an earlier flight instead.
