Im flying from dublin to iad with connection to st louis, what is the procedure when i land at iad. Bearing in mind i will have gone through CBP pre clearance at dublin.

Your arrival at IAD is considered to be a 'domestic arrival'. If both legs of the flight have been booked on one ticket, all you need to do is follow signs to your connecting flight, which depends on what airline you are taking. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iad then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

Hi, i'm flying united airlines from London heathrow to Washington Dulles, and then on to united express flight to Charleston, if the plane lands i'll have 1 hour and 12 minutes to get on my connecting flight, A) is this enough time at IAD? B) will they transfer my bag so i can go straight to the gate instead of going through to check my bag in again?

No, that probably won't be enough time unless your flight gets in early. You will clear US Immigration in United's facility in concourse C/D, claim your bags, go through US customs, and then re-check your bags with United. Then you will go through security and to your gate, which may require a trip on the aerotrain or mobile lounge to concourse A.

flying in from DFW on united 9:00p catching a United flight to LHR at 9:50 p . Is that enough time? (my conf# document says Terminal E to Terminal I)

TE & TI are terminals at DFW (TI = Internat'l Terminal D). You are not clear which is your arrivals (IAD has Midfield Concouses A - D). For transfer options I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

You will likely both arrive and depart from the C/D concourse at IAD. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time. however, if your flight from DFW is late, you'll be stuck overnight in DFW. Luckily United flies a morning flight IAD-LHR so you won't be stuck a full day, just overnight.

  • Sufficient connection time?

I reach Washington Dulles from Dubai at 8 50 AM. My connection to Boston Logan airport is at 11 AM. Do you think that the 2 hour 10 min transit is enough for me to catch my domestic connection?

Please note that I am not a U.S. citizen, and that both my flights are on the same ticket,

Yes, that should be enough time. You will clear US Immigration in the International Arrivals Building, then claim your luggage, then go through US Customs, then you can re-check your baggage, go through security and to your departure gate via the aerotrain.

Thank you for your response. I realised I have come in to Dulles on the same flight, but my connection at that time was at 12 20 PM. That was enough time, but I couldn't tell if 2 hr 10 min is enough. I think I've forgotten how US Customs and re-checking of baggage works. How is Customs different from Immigration? Thanks again!

Immigration is for people, customs is for items. In immigration you hand the guy your passport at a desk and he might ask you why you're coming to the US and how long you'll be there. For customs you hand a form to a guy and based on what you're bringing in, your baggage may be searched, or if you're bringing a lot you may have to pay duty.

    That was really helpful! Thanks!

  • 1h 50 Connestion Time Separate Tickets

Hi, I'm a UK citizen flying from London Heathrow to Atlanta via IAD in early July, on separate tickets with different airlines. LHR-IAD is with BA and arrives at 12:45, IAD-ATL is with Delta and leaves at 14:35. Will 1h50 be enough to clear customs, immigration and check in with bags for the Delta flight? Thanks in advance!

It should be enough time but doesn't leave much time for delays. BA and Delta doe have an interline agreement so the BA counter in London may be able to tag your bags through to Atlanta, however you will still have to claim them after immigration to go through US customs. You can also check-in for your delta flight online before you leave London.

    Thanks ZAP. Fingers crossed...

I arrive into IAD at Gate C18 and have only 40 minutes to transfer to A1 (both flights are US Express). What is the fastest way to transfer from "C" to "A" ??? The last time I did this I took the people mover vehicle .... waited a long time for departure and missed the connection. I see the AeroTrain goes from C to A but one has to walk a long way. What is the fastest way from C18 to A1 ?

The fastest route from C18 to A1 is likely the Aerotrain.

  • Raleigh durham to Hartford - 41 minute connection time enough?

Have a 6 am united Express flight from RDU to Hartford CT that changes at Dulles. Is 41 minutes enough time to make the connection?

Yes, that should be enough time. If you need to change concourses, A is connected to C/D by the aerotrain and mobile lounge.

Hi, I'm flying from Montreal Canada (YUL) to IAD using GOJET AIRLINES DBA UNITED EXPRESS and connecting to a United flight to London. Connect time in Washington, DC (IAD - Dulles) is 48 minutes. Do you think it's possible? I am not a US citizen (but have an ESTA) and I will have checked in luggage. Will I have to go through customs or take my luggage?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Montreal. In IAD all you will have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will both likely be on the C/D concourse.

  • Would 69 mins be possible for transfer?

I'm going with UA on my IND-IAD-GRU flight and the transfer time is 69 mins. Is that enough?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. If you arrive in Concourse A it is connected to the C/D concourse via the aerotrain and mobile lounge inside security.

  • LAX to RDU transit at IAD in 47 minutes, Can I make it?

I have only 47 mins to transfer United (Lax - IAE) to United express (IAD-RDU). It seems like I need to take either train or bus. Can I make it in 47 mins?

You will arrive in the C/D concourse. Many United Express flights also use the C/D Concourse but some also use the A concourse. Even if you have to transfer to A via the mobile lounge or Aerotrain, you should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • 2:20h connection, operator change from Lufthansa to United Airlines
    Apr 28, 2014

Hi! I am about to book a flight, and I'm concerned about being able to transfer in time: I fly from Frankfurt intl to Dulles Intl, (arriving time: 15:50) and I have 2:20h until the next flight. I am going to book both flights together on a website, but the first one is by Lufthansa and the second one by United Airlines. I don't know if due to this change of operator, I might be requested to get my luggage back and put it somewhere else . IF that is the case, will 2:20 h be enough to clear inmigration and do whatever is necessary with the luggage? Also, I have this doubt: is this true that transfering travelers go through a different queue to clear inmigration? Thank you very much!

You will clear US Immigration in the International Arrivals Building, claim your luggage, go through US Customs, and then you can re-check your bags at the re-check desk with United. Then you will go through security and to your departure gate via the aerotrain. You should have enough time.

Thank you for your quick answer! I have made the same question to a nice lady at Lufthansa Customer's Service Phone, and she also thinks it is enough time to make. So I'm going to give it a try!

Hi - I arrive from Zurich on a Wed. at 3:20 pm on United, no checked bag. I connect to RDU at 5 pm, also on United, but booked separately. Will this be enough time to clear passport control, customs and TSA?

Yes, that should be enough time. You can check in for your IAD-RDU flight online before you depart from Zurich.

Hey guys, I have a flight with united from Montreal to Narita, with a transit at IAD which is 47 minutes only. Will I be able to make it?

Yes, if your first flight is on-time that should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration in Montreal and all you have to do in IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Connecting time for International -> Domestic enough?

Hello everyone, we (group of 4) booked a flight from Frankfurt (FRA) to Orlando (MCO) via Washington (IAD), and now the ladies are worried that the connection time (105 minutes) could be too short. Both flights are on United. Landing from FRA is scheduled for 08:05 PM on a friday evening. Departure to MCO is scheduled for 09:50 PM. What do you think? Do we really have to go through Immigration, customs, baggage claim, baggage drop-off and security? Sounds like a lot. Many thanks in advance, greetings from Germany

Yes, you have the procedure correct. You should have plenty of time. Immigration and security will not be crowded that late in the evening.

Thank you very much, thats a relief.

Is 80 minutes enough to transfer from FLL on United to BRU on Brussels Airlines? Thanks

If both tickets are bought together, then yes that should be enough time. United should be able to check your bags through to Brussels in FLL and all you have to do in IAD is take the Mobile Lounge or Aerotrain from C/D where you will arrive to B where you will depart.
