  • Flight From LHR to IAD and then to RIC
    Oct 3, 2016
Hi Bookign flights and wondering if 1h 35mins gap between landing in IAD from LHR and getting the flight out of IAD to RIC is enough time and is there a different immigration/customs for transfers ? Thanks in advance

That is just enough time if everything goes smoothly. Yes, as a transfer everything will be handled in the C/D concourse facility.

United Flight from Alb lands at 11:47AM. Need to catch United Flight to SFO at 12:35AM. Will 45 min be too tight? This will be in February. I'm concerned about winter storms.

  • Connecting flight

Flying from LHR with United Airlines to EWR via IAD with a 2 hour layover in IAD. Will I need to collect my baggage before going through security and connecting on the next flight, or will the baggage be transferred to the connecting flight? Also, how far are the connecting terminals?

Yes, at IAD You will arrive in the C/D concourse, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, likely also in the C/D Concourse, so everything will take place there. There's a slight chance your flight to Newark will depart from Concourse A, which is a short ride on the AeroTrain away.

San Antonio, TX, US (SAT) to Washington, DC, US (IAD - Dulles) 4:35 pm - 8:47 pm (3h 12m) with a layover of 1hr18mins to connecting UNITED flight to Frankfurt? Is that enough time? How bad is Dulles during the winter? Sorry for the dumb questions

Yes, that is enough time. You just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate which should both be on the C/D concourse. The weather in Washington DC during the winter is usually good and Dulles is not a congested airport, so it is only affected by the weather when it's exceptionally bad.

Everything is on same reservation, even if the plane is late everything should run smoothly.

  • transfer from international to domestic on non-linked tickets
    Sep 25, 2016
My mom is arriving from Moscow to IAD with one checked bag via Aeroflot. She then should travel to St. Louis via United. The layover is about 8 hours. Could someone describe how the process of transfer btw. international and domestic should work? The more details, the better - I will be calling and explaining them to her - she does not speak English. Based on the Dulles Map I assume she arrives to International Arrivals Building first and she passes the immigration, then customs, then she should pick her checked bag at baggage claim while still being in int. arrivals building. Which terminal she should move to get on United flight? How? Shuttle, walkway or train? Google says gate is A6 so is it terminal A then? We appreciate your responses!

She will arrive and be transported to the International Arrivals Building, then go through US Immigration, claim her bags, and go through US Customs, then she will go to the main terminal departures level and check her bags with United. She will then go through security and then to her departure gate, which could be on A, C, or D. There are signs to all departure gates once you get through security.

  • Will I make it to gate?
    Sep 24, 2016
Arriving on UA421 from Houston and we have a one hour before we depart on UA 655 to Boston. Do we have enough time to get to our new gate and maybe get something to eat?

Yes, that is enough time. Both gates will be on the C/D concourse and all you have to do is walk from one gate to the other. You might have some time to grab some fast food. There's not much on that concourse anyway.

  • Layover 1 hour from BNA to DUB
    Sep 23, 2016
We will arrive from Nashville at IAD and will have a one hour layover before our flight to Dublin. Is that enough time to get to the flight to Dublin?

If both flights are on the same reservation, yes, that is enough time.

  • Do I collect my baggage before connecting?
    Sep 22, 2016
We arrive at IAD from Toronto for a 50 min layover before connecting to CAE. Do we need to get our baggage before connecting? Or will it be transferred for us?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

  • How long between terminals A &D via shuttle
    Sep 19, 2016
How long on average using the terminal shutle between concourse A and concourse D?

It shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes.

  • Layover 40 min from MSP to FRA
    Sep 19, 2016
We will arrive from MSP at IAD and will have a layover of 40 min. Is that enough time time to get the flight from IAD to FRA.

Yes, that is enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • In from Paris, Out to Denver

All on United- 1:23 min layover, is that enough time to get from international security to the next flight? Don't you have to grab your bags, take them through customs, then recheck them?

Yes, you have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US customs, re-check your bags, go through security and back up to the departure level. This is just enough time if everything goes perfectly assuming both flights are on United.

  • transfer time to Canadian flight

Arriving from LAX UA 513 at 4:25P transferring to UA 6077 leaving at 5:11 to Ottawa. is there enough time for transfer. Are the terminals far apart?

Yes, that is enough time if the first flight is on-time. IAD only has one Terminal.

  • One hour layover from United to Aer Lingus
    Sep 13, 2016
I am flying from AUS to DUB with a 1 hour layover at IAD(16:09-17:20). Will I have enough time to make that connection?

Yes, if both flights are on the same reservation that should be enough time.

I will be connecting United AUS to IAD and Aer Lingus IAD to DUB

Yes are the flights on the same reservation or not?

They are on the same reservation

Then yes, you have enough time.

  • arrive 2:15pm from Vienna and catch a 3:41pm flight to San Francisco
    Sep 13, 2016
Arriving from Vienna on Austrian at 2:15pm and connecting on United to San Francisco at 3:41pm. Is 1:26 enough with all the non-citizens security checks? Thank you!

No, that's not enough time for an international to domestic connection at IAD unless your flight from Vienna arrives early.

What's the minimum to have a chance? Thanks!

If you had 10 more minutes I'd feel significantly better about your chances. If you had a half hour more I'd feel a lot better.
