Im flying home to dulles from amsterdam. will i have to go through customs when i arrive?

Yes, upon arrival at IAD you will be taken to the International Arrivals building, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs.

Hi I am travelling drom Dublin to Charlotte with a 1 hour 35 minute layover in IAD. I have a small child and I'm worried I won't make the flight. Can you tell me if this is doable? Both flights are booked with Aerlingus.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Dublin. All you have to do in Dulles is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

If I'm flying from Las Vegas to IAD to then get a flight to Dublin, is 90 minutes enough time for the connection? Will I have to recheck baggage if the flights were bought as one ticket?

Yes, that is plenty of time. You won't have to do anything with your bags. There is no US Customs when exiting the US.

I will be arriving on a Sunday at 15:15 on Virgin Atlantic from Heathrow and have a departure to Atlanta on Delta at 5:35. I will have global entry, TSA Pre-check. Carry-on only. Is this enough time?

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

Sorry that should be 15:50 and 18:35 (3:50 and 5:35). still enough time?

Ah, that's considerably harder, but with no checked bags, GE and Precheck, you should still have enough time.

I am not familiar with Dulles (terminals, international arrivals, mobile lounge). Would you be willing to give me a run down of the process arriving international and then making my domestic flight. The flight is not a connection as they would only allow me to connect on the 7pm not the 5:35.

When you arrive, you will be taken by a mobile lounge (a big bus) to the International Arrivals Building (which is just a modern Annex of the main terminal) where you will go through US Immigration and customs, then you will go to the security checkpoint, through security and to the Aerotrain to your departure gate in concourse B.

Hi, In two weeks, we will be landing at Dulles from SCE to catch a connecting flight for ORL. We have 1 hour and 5 minutes to make the connection. We also will be traveling with a 5 and 7 year old. Is this enough time

Yes, that should be enough time if the first flight is on-time. There's a good chance you will arrive in concourse A and depart from concourse C or D. A is connected to C and D by the aerotrain and mobile lounge.

Hey Im flying from Tokyo to Charlotte with a 2 hour Lay over in IAD, both flights are United, I was wondering if I will have to recheck my bags in IAD and clear customs again. If so will 2 hours be enough time to do all of this? Thank you for any help!

In IAD you will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

Hi, im routing via IAD from Miami on american with an onward flight on british airways (one wirld partner) to london. Will i need to come landside and be re-screened for security assuming i can get all boarding passes issued at MIA? I only have about 1.5hours and want to avoid a panic Many thanks

Assuming your bags are checked through and you have both boarding passes all you have to do at IAD is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Dulles to Dubai to India baggage question

I'm traveling from CIncinnati to Dulles to Dubai to India. I'm checking one bag and will have one carry on. Will my bag be checked straight thru to India? I'm a first time traveler (really!) & am clueless about a lot of this stuff.

Are all your tickets on the same reservation? What airlines are you flying? I can't answer your question without this info.

Hi, I arrive into IAD from Dubai, and have an onward flight to Toronto. Between these flights I have a transit time of 1h40m. Will that be enough for an international transfer? Thanks

That should be just about enough time.

Will be arriving in IAD via SAA....after going through customs, will I be able to check my bags in to Southwest Airlines from customs, or will I have to go to the Southwest ticket counter.

You have to take it to the Southwest ticket counter. Southwest doesn't interline baggage with any other airlines.

I am arriving at IAD from Munich, Germany on Tuesday on UA133 at 15:30 and will transfer to UA3434 to St. Louis leaving at 17:14. Will I need to claim my luggage upon my arrival to IAD and re-check it again? Will I have enough time to make my connection? Both flights are with United and I purchased the tickets together. It would be great if you could shortly describe the transfer process at IAD. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

Arriving at IAD at 3:15pm on a Thursday (April), would I have enough time to go through procedures and then connect to my domestic that is just 1:55 later? Domestic is on UA as well, same ticket. I will have checked luggage.

Yes, that should be enough time.

I'm leaving ATL 7:23 pm getting on IAD 9:10 pm, 1h and 5 minutes it's enough to connect to DXB ? The flight is all operated by UNITED. If I lost the flight UEXPRESS it's responsible for that ? How many minutes the close the gate before the departure ?

You have enough time. all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The gate will close about 10 minutes prior to departure. If you miss your flight due to a delay on your Atlanta-IAD flight you will be booked on the flight to Dubai the next day.

    thank you.

  • Bringing puppy?

We'll be bringing our puppy from the breeder in Toronto, Canada, to Dulles. Because he will be less than 4 months old, we have received approval from the CDC for a confinement agreement. Do we need any other documentation? A vet report or health certificate? Any tips so we can get on the road home to Maryland without crisis, such as having the puppy taken from us?

Flight into IAD from Iceland arrives 6:30pm on Sunday 12/21 and separate ticket US Air flight from IAD to Charlotte leaves at 7:55pm. Will that be enough time including checked baggage pickup and recheck?

It's possible, but it's definitely cutting it close. You'll have to be to the US Airways check-in counter with your bags by 7:10

Thanks - I think we will try to find a longer layover

What if we didn't have checked baggage?
