  • Illiterate international traveler

I would appreciate any help or advise you might be able to pass along for a friend of mine traveling to Ethiopia. She is an Ethiopian refugee who recently became a naturalized U.S. citizen. My wife helped her make flight arrangements to travel to Ethiopia to visit her elderly mother whom she hasn't seen in 20 years. This will be only her second flight. The first was when she came to the U.S. as a refugee. My concern is that she is illiterate and international travel is even a bit daunting for those of us who have traveled and are able to read and write. My concerns are… 1. Making her connection in Washington DC (Dulles) for her flight to Addis Ababa. 2. Clearing immigrationon return to the U.S. 3. Finding her luggage at Dulles and clearing customs. 4. Re-checking her luggage for her return flight to Dayton Ohio 5. Locating her gate and boarding her return flight to Dayton. I know this is a pretty exhaustive list, but any help would be most appreciated. Thank you,
