Zihuatanejo Ixtapa ZIH Airport Overview

Zihuatanejo Ixtapa International Airport ZIH serves the Mexican State of Guerrero bordering on the Pacific coast. Its ciy,
Zihuatanejo, is the third-most-visisted area in Mexico and a very desirable tourist destination, due to its beautiful beach, great hotels and infrastructure.

The Airport is a 15-minute ride from the city of Zihuatanejo, which stretches aong the coast.
Driving directions and cautions: If driving towards Mexico City, use the detour 'Periferico" around the city toward Cuernavaca, which will later get you onto the toll road Autopista Del Seol leading to Acapulco; from there take Carr. Nacional 200 north to Zuhuatanejo.
Alternatively, take the Autopista Siglo XXI connecting to Morelia, Uruapan, Patzcuaro, Michoacan to Carr. National 200 on the coast near Feliciano. Do not attempt to take the Toluca Highway (Carr. Nactional 134), which locals refer to as the 'Road of Death', and which is very dangerous.  Also never drive at night.

With a long runway and 457,906 passengers in 2012, Zihuatanejo Ixtapa Airport is served by a number of domestic airlines offering direct flights within Mexico, by United Airlines offering direct flights to Houston Intercontinental, and by US Airways to Phoenix, with connections worldwide. Seasonally scheduled flights are also available from various international airlines.

NOTE: Direct flights from Canada and the U.S. are available - particularly during high season December to April. However, if you book a flight with a transfer at Mexico City, allow 2-3 hours between arrival & departure there, as Customs occasionally perform 'red light' full searches which hold up the lines.

The passenger terminal at Zihuatanejo Ixtapa International Airport houses the arrivals and baggage area on the left side, with vending machines, a taxi kiosk, 2 ATM machines by Banamex and HSBC, and rental car counters (Alamo, Budget, Dollar, Europcar, Hertz & Thrifty) . Stores, food & drink establishments, as well as duty-free shops and news/book stores are disbursed throughout the center, the check-in area and the departure area, which is one level up (via stairs & elevator) and has a waiting room and Gates 1-4.

Parking at Zihuatanejo Ixtapa International Airport is available in the parking lot across from the passenger terminal for short- and long-term parking. Sevice is available 7am-9pm and parking rates are to be paid in Mexican pesos, at the automated payment station at the lot's exit.
