Innsbruck Airport INN, also known as Kranebitten Airport, is a regional airport serving the Austrian state of Tyrol and its capital city Innsbruck, which likes to describe itself as the 'capital of the Alps'. Innsbruck's main season is the winter season, and it is reflected in a marked increase in passengers heading for the Tyrolean ski slopes.  Innbruck Airport is located only 2.5 miles from Innsbruck and can be reached via the A12 motorway (East-West) from Voralberg or from Germany, and via motorway A13 from the Brenner Pass & Italy.
The city of Innsbruck, with its medieval buildings and cobblestone walks, is well worth a visit, whether you come in winter or summer, and its surrounding picture-perfect small villages and hamlets dot the alpine scenery. In summer, you can rent a car and drive through the adjacent national park, an unforgetable ride, which will take you close to the Grossglockner summit (the tallest mountain in Austria) and down to Salzburg. You have to pay a fee, but it is definitely worth it.

With one runway and 1 million passengers in 2016, Innsbruck Airport is served a number domestic and international airlines. As the runway cannot be extended, scheduled airline & charter flights are mostly within Europe - with connections to long-haul flights.

The two-level passenger terminal at Innsbruck Airport* recently received expansion of departure gates 1 to 8, post-security check-point, and waiting area, and added duty-free and Travel Value shops.
The ground level is divided into an Arrivals area and a check-in area.  The Arrivals area houses Customs inspection, baggage claim, and access to transport and parking options.   The Departure area offers  an information counter, currency exchange, a cafe, information counter,  check-in facilities and baggage check-in. After security check, you find duty-free shop, a cafe, passport control and access to gates 1 - 8.
The Upper Level  has currently a temporary security check, the Tyrol Lounge, and acess to gates 9 -  11, a restaurant in the public area, and access to the  terrace.

Services and amenities inside the terminal
include free WiFi access, conference rooms, ATM cash machine, a cafe for early breakfast, a Bistro, a bakery, an 'Airport Shop' stocked with newspapers, magazines, books and convenience items; Schenker (a full-service travel agency) can take care of your travel and reservation needs (Tel: +43 512 285627).
Parking options include the multi-level parking garage connected by walkway to the passenger terminal, as well as four open-air parking lots.

* Present and future Airport developments: During summer 2016 considerable terminal extension work was done in the areas of check-in hall, on ground- and first levels, and adding another level to house airport operations.  Level 1's ceiling height were extended, and a new glass vassade brings in natural light with a view of the mountains.  The temporary departure waiting area near Gate 11 was doubled, and gate 12 added. Next to the waiting area are new VIP- and Frequent Flyer lounges. Construction paused during the 2016/17 winter season, but work resumed in Spring 2017, involving the eastern part of the terminal, whereby the outer and inner work on the Terminal is to bring the project to completion by Fall 2017 - with a tentative offical opening day scheduled for November 2017.
