Tripoli International Airport TIP, Libya's largest airport - located in the town of Qaser Ben Ghashir, 34 km south of the city center of Tripoli (Libya's capital)  had been totally destroyed in 2014.  A foundation stone was layed in March 2016 for rebuilding the Airport and renaming it 'Idris International Airport' (after former King Idris).
 - While a Turkish company had started rebuilding TIA, this apparently came to a halt.

Flights in /out of Tripoli operated through Mitiga airport (formerly a military base) east of Tripoli.
The VIP terminal (with less damage) reopened February 2017.

- In July 2017, Lybian Airline  - for the first time since 2014 - touched down at Tripoli Airport
- In July 2017, Libya & Italy signed a multi-million contract to build two terminals - one for international and one for domestic flights - covering an area of 30,000 sq.meters.
The international terminal is to be opened within ten months, the domestic terminal within 18 months.
