FLR Airport is only 4 km outside of Florence, which is situated on the Arno River and at the Mugello foothills. The Airport can be accessed by motorways A1 & A11 (Firenze Nord/Firenze Mare), or from Firenze by Viale Guidoni.
With one runway and 2.5 million passengers in 2016, FlorenceToscana Airport is served by a number of scheduled national, international and low-cost airlinesoffering direct and connecting flights to all points of the globe, as well as by seasonal charter flights.
The passenger terminal at Florence Toscana Airport consists of two buildings under one roof, one for arrivals, the other for departures. Renovation & extension of the terminal was completed in 2012, adding a total of 6,000 sqm of space.
- The check-in hall now has 40 check-in desks, and the new baggage handling system can handle more than 1,500 bags an hour.
- The Arrivals Hall, as well as operational areas were also extended. It now has 5 security checkpoints, 10 boarding gates, 3 baggage conveyors, and 23 check-in desks.
The airport is small and does not require a lengthy walk to the gates. Alitalia offers self-check-in-machines and a baggage drop desk next to the check-in desk. However, there is only one restaurant available, which gets quite crowded. The terminal could use more seating at departures and air conditioning. Passengers board a bus to their plane.
Amenities and Services inside the Terminal: The Masaccio Lounge offers computer, printer and internet access; as well as other amenities, and is accessible by presenting your boarding pass. The ground level offers two cafes, and a number shops and duty-free are located in the pre- and post-security areas. Rental car counters are in the Arrivals terminal.
