HER Airport is located 5 km east Heraklion, the capital of the Greek island of Crete, accessible via motorway E75 or via the Ikarou road from city center. Future Airport Developments: 'New Heraklion Airport (Castelli)' is to be built near Kastelli (about 40 km from Heraklion) - to replace the current Airport by 2018/19. Work will include construction of a 17-km road to connect it with the National Road running along Crete's north coast (around Chersonissos).
