Hi, Can anybody help me? I am flying from Atlanta to JFK then having a 3 hour wait for a connecting flight from JFK to Manchester UK. I have never done a connect flight before. The flights are booked through Virgin but my ATL flight to JFK is being ran by Delta. Both flights are with Terminal 4 however I have no idea how it works with collecting bags and immigration. Any advice would be appreciated.
There is no US Immigration when leaving the US. All you have to do on your way to Manchester is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.
Thanks, would i have to collect bags and recheck in? Or will delta/virgin just have them moved to the new plane. I dont technically leave terminal 4 and its all booked with one company
You don't have to do anything with your bags in JFK on your way to Manchester. Again, just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
If I fly from RDU to JFK on American and have a connection from JFK to Barcelona on American will I need to Change terminals? Would 1 hour be enough time to make this connection?
All American flights are in Terminal 8. You have enough time if the first flight is on-time.
Thank you!
I fly in on American on Monday, Feb 12 and arrive in JFK terminal 8 (American Airlines) at 11:59. I need to leave on Turkish Airlines (I think terminal 1) at 1:30 p.m.. Do I have time to get from Terminal 8 to 1? do I have to go through security again? I've already booked the flights.
Yes, you have to go through security again. If you have checked bags you don't have enough time. If you don't have checked bags then you have a slight chance of being able to make it. You should have researched this BEFORE booking flights.
Hi! We will be flying Delta into JFK from RDU, and I BELIEVE landing at terminal 4 -- then flying Delta from JFK to FCO, and I think I will be also leaving from terminal 4. We have no checked baggage, just carry-on. Will we have to go back through security? (We have a 2 hour layover, and I'm worried the weather will delay our flight.) Thanks in advance!!
You don't have to go through security again. If you arrive in Terminal 2, Delta runs a shuttle inside security to Terminal 4.
I have two separate tickets, I am flying into jfk and arrive around 9 and then depart in the same terminal 4 at 10:40 to South Africa. I will probably have to recheck my bag? Will i have enough time to get through security and checking in?
What airline are you flying for the first flight and where are you coming from? With checked bags that aren't checked through I don't think you have enough time to claim your bags and re-check them with South African before the cutoff.
I am flying in on delta and then flying out on SAA, both at the same terminal.
Yeah, I don't think you have enough time if you have checked bags and they aren't checked through.
Ok, thanks for the help. Do you know how long it usually takes to get through security at terminal 4?
It depends on a lot of factors anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes.
Flying on Delta to JFK during Christmas and have a 1 hour layover from Delta Endeavor to Virgin Atlantic, so domestic flight to international flight. We may arrive and depart from Terminal 4.
1. Purchased as 1 ticket, but will I have enough time to make the international flight?
2. Will we have to go through a security check prior to international flight?
Yes, you should have enough time. You don't have to go through security.
I'm arriving at JFK via Virgin Atlantic on Jan. 7. My layover is 90 minutes. Is that enough time to pass through customs and still make the connection for the domestic Delta flight?
That is just enough time if everything goes perfectly.
I am flying from Prague to JFK. From JFK I fly to San Antonio Texas. I only have 1 1/2 hrs between landing and takeoff. What is the process to transfer and do I have time?
If both flights are on Delta, then you go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.
I am flying in from DOHA via Qatar and arriving at JFK on a Sunday in February. I have to make a domestic connection at same terminal, but I need to go through immigration and customs at JFK. My layover time at JFK is 1hr 44 min. Would that be enough time? Thanks!
I forgot to mention, my domestic connection is to PIT via American Airlines. I arrive in the afternoon (2 pm). Thanks again.
That's just enough time if both flights are on the same reservation and everything goes smoothly.
Hi. I'm arriving from Raleigh, NC (RDU) to JFK in April around 2pm and then leaving from JFK to Copenhagen (CPH) via Icelandair around 8pm. I know I have more than enough time, but my question is: since I'll just have a carry-on bag and no checked bags, would I still need to go through security for when I first arrive at JFK before getting to my departing gate or can I just go straight to the departing gate? I'll assume your answer will also apply for when I return. I appreciate your help!
Since Icelandair uses Terminal 7 and no airlines that fly from Raleigh Durham arrive into Terminal 7, yes, you will have to go through security again in Terminal 7 at JFK. When you return you will have to go through US Immigration and customs before proceeding to your departure terminal.
Not sure how often anyone thanks you/y'all, but THANK YOU! :)
