Getting from Kolkata Airport to your destination:  Currently, The Airport is connected by its Biman Bandar station to the Kolkata Suburban Railway system. The 4-km rail track connects the airport station with Dumdum Catonment. However due to lack of patronage, plans are to replace it by an elevated Metro:

Construction started February 2016 on a 6.9 km underground extension of the Kolkata metro to the Airport in Dum Dum - starting at the current northern terminus of the North-South Line at Noapara and running northeast to Bimanbandar, with three stations. Also 14 additional rush hour services have recently been added on the curent route. Air-conditioned bus services on Volvo buses from within the Howrah station premises, to/from the Airport make 7 to 8 daily  trips at pre-set fees.
