Padlocking your luggage:
You can still padlock it, or use a combination lock. Luggage that is checked in the USA must either be left unlocked or locked with a special padlock approved by the TSA. Contact your airline.
Shopping after Security:
You can carry on board tax- and duty-free goods purchase after security checks. If flying within the EU, storage is available through Shopping Collection Service--as your retailer at the till.
On direct flights to the USA, you can "fly with everything you buy" after security. However, if you are transferring within the USA or Canada you must place your purchases over 100ml in your hold baggage, which all passengers have to pick up before transferring to their next flight. Ask the store employee for details.
Taking Food/Water on Board:
You can take water on board all flights, including flights to the USA.
Connections and transfers:
USA travelers transferring at Edinburgh Airport: The same liquid regulations apply. If arriving from the EU, all liquids purchased from your originating airport or on board your inbound flight are allowed, providing you have proof of purchase and the item was bought less than 24 hours prior thereto.
If are arriving from outside the EU, all liquids must be in individual containers not greater than 100ml capacity. They must be placed in one transparent, resealable bag, no larger than 20cm x 20cm (8in x 8in) in size, and fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be fastened closed.
If arriving from Singapore, you can fly with all liquids from Changi Airport, providing you have proof of purchase and the item was bought less than 28 hours prior thereto.
Security control Procedures:
1. Have your resealable bag ready for inspection at security. Ensure it is fastened closed and kept separate to your hand luggage.
2. You no longer need to remove your laptop from your bag at Heathrow Airport.
3. Put all small items like keys, coins, mobile phones into your coat or hand baggage and place these into a tray.
4. Place your hand baggage into the tray.
5. If you have been asked to remove your shoes place these in the tray too.
6. Place any large electrical goods into a tray.
7. Any liquid/paste medicines in containers over 100ml may require verification at the security checkpoint.
8. Place hand baggage onto the roller bed for x-ray.
9. Go through the security archway when called forward by one of the security officers.
