Barcelona BCN Airport Overview

Barcelona Airport BCN, Spain's second-largest Airport which has experienced tremendous growth in the last decade, is operated by Aena which is continually upgrading its facilities. It is vital to the area's economy, and is located near the free-trade zone consortium - one of the most imortant industrial & logistics areas of Spain.

Barcelona Airport is located within the municipalities of El Prat de Llobregat, Viladecans and San Boi, and is 18 km southwest of the city center of Barcelona, situated in the region of Catalonia. Motorway C-32B connects the Airport to a main traffic interchange between Barcelona's Ronda de Dalt beltway & major motorways. The B-22 exit of C-31 leads directly to the new Terminal 1. From the city of Barcelona ring roads, you can arrive via Pata Sur. 

With three long runsways and an estimated 29.2 million passengers a year, Barcelona Airport is hub for Spanair and Vueling and is served by countless major, minor, low-cost and charter airlines, offering mainly flights to Europe & North Africa, and some flights to Southeast Asia, & the Americas.  As of March 2011 Iberia offers 3 weekly flights to Miami, Florida.

Rental car counters for Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National & SolMar are located in both T1 & T2 on their Arrivals level.

To get from Barcelona  Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take a taxi (at both terminals), a bus or a train:  The T1-T2 Renfe suburban train station shuttle coincides with the arrival of trains, and every 30 minutes a bus links the T2 Renfe station with the departures roadway (P3) of T1, the trip taking about 10 mins.
1. Trains: (a) Terminal 2 has its on RENFE commuter train station on the 2 Nord line, running from the Macanet-Massanes station, and making major stops at Barcelona Sants railway station the Passeig de Gracia railway station providing transfer to the Barcelona Mero system. Passengers can access the Renfe suburban train station from/to inside the airport facilities via the footbridge (with lifts & elevators), linking the station to the airport's Intermodal Terminal.
(b) Terminal 1 passengers must take a connecting bus from the train station to T1.  A new railway station is to be built nearby, connecting the Airport to the Spanish AVE network, and to line 9 of the Barcelona Metro.
(c) There is also a non-stop direct train that runs once a day between the Airport & Estacio Franca at 5:42am, taking 30 mins.
2. TMB public bus 46 runs every 16 mins to Placa Espanya.  The Aerobus runs to Placa Catalunya, with stops at Placa d'Espnya and Urgell.

Future Airport Developments: 
Aena is preparing for the future by making major updates to infrastructure and services. Building plans include the construction of a new satellite building, 4 new piers, an intermodal area, boading ramp area, and ongoing renovation of Terminal 2. Tentative completion of the projects is in 2012.
