LEX Airport Overview
Bluegrass Airport LEX, close to the City of Lexington, Kentucky (famous for the Kentucky Derby), has one of the most beautiful airport approaches in the country. LEX Airport serves over one million passengers each year and occupies approximately 1,000 acres. It serves a population of over 1.5 million who reside in over 15 surrounding counties. Lexington airport offers commercial flights to destinations worldwide and also provides a variety of corporate and general aviation services, including U.S. Customs cargo inspection, flight instruction, charter aircraft, airplane maintenance, aircraft storage and more. Presently with two runways, the airport is served by 12 airlines operating as six major brand-names, and offering nonstop and connecting flights to major US Cities, with connections around the world.
The passenger terminal offers ATM machines, Wi-Fi access, business services, restaurants and shops, baggage carts, a children's play area, a first-aid station, and mail, FedEx and UPS boxes at the terminal entrance. If you need to pick up an arriving passenger, use the free Cell Phone Lot--stay with your car until your party calls you to be picked up at the curb. Other parking options include a parking garage, a surface lot and an economy lot with shuttle service. Valet parking is available. Short- and long-term parking is available at the garage (for long-term parking use levels 2 and 3). To get from the Airport to your destination, you have the choice of renting a car there, taking a taxi or limo, or using a hotel shuttle. No other transportation is available.
Blue Grass Airport has prepared an Airport Master Plan to provide a comprehensive overview of the airport's anticipated needs for the next 20 years. This plan includes recommended improvements to the airfield, terminal, public parking, general aviation and other support facilities. It provides a detailed forecast of future levels of aviation activity, the airport's ability to provide necessary capacity to accommodate the anticipated levels of aviation activity and preliminary capacity enhancing alternatives for long-term development. In February 2009 Blue Grass Airport started one of its busiest construction seasons in the airport's history, beginning with the Crosswind Runway. From inside the terminal to outside on the airfield, more than $66 million worth of airport improvements are being made to ensure a safe and efficient airport.
