Cairns CNS Airport Overview
Cairns Airport CNS is one of Australia's major airports and also serves as gateway to the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef and Tropical Rain Forests.
The Airport is only 7 km from the central business district of the city of Cairns, located off Sheridan Street & Captain Cook Highway, and situated in the southeastern part of the tropical Cape York Peninsula of Queensland (between Mount Whitfield to the west & Trinity Bay to the east). It is easily accessible by its close proximity to an extensive road network.
With two runways and an estimated 4.7 million passengers in 2012, the airlines serving Cairns Airport offer domestic flights to major cities in Australia, to communities in far North Queensland, to Australian tourist destinations, as well as to some international cities in the Asia-Pacific region, with connections around the world.

The passenger terminal complex at Cairns Airport consists of a Domestic (T2) and an International (T1) passenger terminal. (For more information, please refer to 'Terminal Map' page.)
To pick up a passenger at Cairns Airport, you can either use the 'pick-up zone' (2.4 m height clearance) in front of the terminals or park in one of the three parking options offering the first ten minutes free.
Other parking options at Cairns Airport include short-term, long-term & budget long-term (economy) parking:
1. For short-term parking, use the Domestic open-air carpark (which opened a covered section), a 2-minute walk to check-in at the Domestic Terminal; first ten minutes are free, cash or credit cards accepted. Note: a new covered carpark section for premium parking, with covered pedestrian walkway, is to be added 'in the first half of 2012'.
2. For Long-term parking use either the International or domestic carparks, with access to the International Terminal in 2-3 minutes, or the Domestic Terminal in 10 minutes. Both long-term carparks offer the first 10 minutes free and cash & credit cards are accepted.
3. The Budget Long-Term option is available throughout the International Carpark.
Rental car counters for major agencies are located in the new Arrivals area at the north end of the Domestic Terminal, and in the Arrivals Hall of the International Terminal; the rental car lot is in the northern end of the Domestic Terminal carpark.

1. The taxi ranks for Black & White taxis are immediately outside of both Terminals. The fare to city center is about AU$15 to 20.
2. The Australia Coach/Sun Palm Express offers shuttle bus services to hotels, city center, northern beaches, Palm Cove, Port Douglas & Cape Tribulation. The pickup point is right in front of Arrivals at both terminals, which also have an Information desk with direct-dial telephones. For more information call (07) 4087 2900.
Present and future Airport developments: The Airport has recently solicited bids, and will soon open in both Terminals, a Tourist Information Center.
