Main Terminal / Concourses at Cairns CNS Airport
Cairns Airport has a Domestic and an International passenger terminal, which are 200 meters apart, connected by a covered walkway, and located on the eastern side of the Airport:
The Domestic Terminal 2 of Cairns Airport consists of three areas:
a) the Departure Lounge in the center has access to arrivals gates 14-17, 18-19 and 20-22; and a Qantas Service desk with an escalator & elevator to the Qantas Club.
(b) the Baggage claim area has access to arrivals gate 2, and arrivals bus bays, and
(c) the check-in area with security check has access to departures bus bays & Australian Air Express Its size has more than doubled, and instead of airline specific areas it now has common-use check-in & arrivals areas, five aerobridges, a new arrivals hall, airline lounges on level 1; a VIP room and meeting rooms; 19 retail outlets, and outdoor seating.
The International Terminal 1 of Cairns Airport is used by Cathay Pacific, Jetstar, Air New Zealand, United Airlines and Air Nuigini. Arrivals is on the ground level with a baggage claim area, and Departures is on Level 1 with a departure lounge and access to the departure gates. The Departures Lounge is to be renovated and more specialty and food & drink outlets added.
Other amenities and services inside the two terminals include: hotel boards with free telephones; ATM machines and currency exchange, a mailbox, food & drink and retail concessions, baggage trolleys and baggage storage. The International terminal also has shower facilities. Note that terminal operations (including shops & cafes, pre- and post-security) are usually open according to flight schedules. Duty-free stores have recently been added.
Travelex ATM machines with the following currencies are available at: (a) T1 (AUD, NZD, PGK & JPY); (b) T2 (AUD, USD, PGK).
NOTE: Both terminals are soon to have their own tourist information center located in the Arrivals areas of both Terminals..
