Charlottesville Albemarle CHO Airport Overview

Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport CHO serves the city of Charlottesville and its surrounding areas in the State of Virginia. It is located in one of Virginia's economically strong regions with a corporate-heavy support base,contributing to the Airport's success, but also benefits considerably from the area's tourism business.

CHO Airport is 8 miles north of the city of Charlottesville and only a mile west of Route 29 on Airport Road. The University of Virginia is 10 miles from the Airport..

With an estimated 400K passengers a year, Charlottesville Albermarle Airport is served by a number of major airlines offering direct flights to some major U.S. city hubs, with connections around the globe.

NOTE: 
  - The Airport opens at 3:30am and urges passengers to arrive 90 minutes before their scheduled flights, particularly during peak hours of 5am-7am. Luggage needs to be checked at least 30 minutes prior to departure. Airline counters open at  4:15am.
  - Arriving passengers note that a new exit lane (to the right of the old revolving door) into the baggage claim area is now in place - meeters  greeters may wait there.

Charlottesville Albemarle Airport has one passenger terminal is fully accessible and offers with free internet excess,  the latest in electronic ticketing, check-in & boarding passes in the ticketing wing, and on-site rental cars. A remote registration kiosk is for TSA-approved Registered Traveler Program participants. The baggage claim area houses rental car counters and hotel courtesy shuttle phone board.    A conference room is available weekdays 8am-4:30pm.  ATMs are in the ticketing area and at lower level concourse, post-security.

Terminal update:  As of Dec.10, 2015, the newly renovated semi-circle ground level shows entry to:  'Ticketing" at right, 'Flights /all gates' at center, and 'Baggage /Ground Transport, Vending' at left.   NOTE that the TSA screening has moved to the left (at right of 'Baggage' entry). The final TSA screening area will take another 'few months'.

Future Airport Developments:   The terminal renovation & expansion project is mostly completed, with the exception of the final TSA screening area, which may be completed by first quarter 2016.
The ongoing runway extension is to take 'several years'.
