Edmonton YEG Airport Overview

Edmonton International Airport YEG serves the Canadian city of Edmonton and the Province of Alberta.  It is also gateway to Canada's spectacular Banff National Park.

The Airport is located west of the QEII Highway, near the town of Nisku, and 30 km south of downtown Edmonton, Canada, is a small airport with big aspirations. The airport is strategically located near the Yellowhead TransCanada Highway which connects Winnipeg, Edmonton and Vancouver. Although it’s manageable in size, Edmonton International airport is the fifth busiest airport in Canada.

With two long runways and an estimated 6.3 million passengers in 2011, Edmonton International Airport is served by domestic and U.S. airlines, offering nonstop flights to numerous destinations in Canada and the U.S. with connections around the world. Seasonal flights to vacation destinations are offered by WestJet and Sunwing. 
Note that US Airways & WestJet have added more nonstop flights to Phoenix PHX Airport, and Continental added a seond daily flight to Houston.

NOTE:  1. Transfer passengers from a domestic flight to a U.S. destination can use the EIA Quick Connect, with no need to claim & recheck baggage. Travelers to the U.S. can complete their U.S. Preclearance right at Edmonton Airport.
2. Airport Improvement Fee (AIF) for all departing passeners from EIA are now $25.

The on-Airport hotel 'Courtyard by Marriott' is under construction and is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2012. It will offer airline check-in, banquet & meeting facilities, full-service rstaurant, fitness facility with spa & indoor pool. A heated covered walkway will connect the hotel to the terminal.

The passenger terminal complex at Edmonton International - temporarily consisting of a South Terminal and its extension - the 'North Terminal' - will officially open as one terminal on February 11, 2012. (For detailed terminal information, click on 'Terminal Map'.)

To get from Edmonton Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take a taxi (Airport Taxi 780-890-7070; Prestige Limos 780-463-5000), or a shuttle or bus:
1. SkyShuttle mini-bus (tel. 780-465-8515 or 1-888-438-2342) takes you to Edmonton - its pickup point is on the Arrivals level next to door 7.
2. The C-Line public bus runs a route between Leduc & Niscu areas, the Airport and the city of Edmonton (tel. 780-980-7177).

Future Airport Developments:  Edmonton Airport's is nearing completion of its expansion project which added 50 percent more space, new serrvices, andood & drink and retail concessions.  The 'New Terminal'  and its facilities - presently undergoing testing by over 1,000 volunteers - is to officialy open February 11, 2012.
