- MDT Airport Overview
Harrisburg International (MDT) Airport in central Pennsylvania is the first airport in the United States completely designed, built and opened since the September 11th tragedy. The result is an easy-to-navigate airport that efficiently meets today’s strict security standards. The Y-shaped terminal building has ticketing and the baggage claim on the first level and security and boarding gates on the second level. You can watch planes arrive and depart from the terminal’s third floor observation area which provides a view of nearly the entire 9,500 foot runway.
Harrisburg MDT airport also boasts an “inter-modal transportation facility" ("IMTF") - not to be mistaken for a mere parking garage! This four-story facility handles all forms of ground transportation. The top three levels provide 2,504 parking places for Short-Term (hourly and daily), and Long-Term public parking. The first level accommodates all limos, taxis, hotel shuttles, public and charter buses, plus the rental car ready/return lot. On the second floor of the lobby area, climate-controlled moving sidewalks connect to the aerial walkway leading directly into the terminal building. The first-floor lobby area houses six rental car counters, restrooms, flight, and bus information displays, and a seating area displaying regional tourism and vacation planning materials.

Airline policies regarding pets vary widely and it is highly recommended that you contact the airline prior to making a reservation. Here are some helpful tips for traveling with pets:
Tips for Traveling with Pets:
· First, contact your airline to find out the rules and regulations they have on pet travel.
· Do not tranquilize your pet, as the effects of tranquilizers on animals at higher altitudes can be unpredictable.
· The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has set up rules and regulations for the transportation of live animals, and your pet is required to be at least eight weeks old and fully weaned before traveling by air.
· Whenever possible, book a direct, nonstop flight and avoid holiday or weekend travel. Try to plan schedules that minimize temperature extremes.
· The kennel that you use must be sturdy, properly ventilated, and large enough for your pet to freely be able to stand, turn around and lie down.
· Get your pet comfortable with the kennel prior to flying; this reduces stress on your pet.
· Give your pet food and water within four hours before your flight. You will have to sign a certification of the time when you last offered food and water to your pet.
· Give yourself plenty of time for check-in so there is no rushing and everything is done properly

Advice regarding security & baggage at MDT Airport
Security regulations require the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to screen 100% of checked & carry-on baggage. The airlines and TSA work together to make the baggage handling process as efficient as possible.
Passengers should arrive one hour and thirty minutes prior to their scheduled flight departure to ensure they and their bags have enough time to go through the screening process and be transported to the aircraft.
Due to the changes to the ban on liquids carried on to the plane by a passenger, the TSA is requesting passengers to declare items in excess of three ounces before they enter the security checkpoint. If you plan to carry baby formula/food, medications or other liquids (for medical needs/conditions) onto your flight, please print off and fill out this declaration form, then bring it with you to the security checkpoint.
Prohibited items are weapons, explosives, incendiaries, and include items that are seemingly harmless but may be used as weapons — the so-called "dual use" items. You may not bring these items to security checkpoints without authorization. The TSA is requesting that passengers leave their checked baggage unlocked to avoid the necessity for security screeners to forcibly unlock their luggage should it require inspection. Visit the TSA Web site for more packing and traveling tips for passengers.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is a national agency created to protect the country's transportation systems. Visit the TSA Web site for packing and traveling tips for passengers.
Please remember the 3-1-1 rule for bringing toiletries in carry-on luggage, for more information please visit www.tsa.gov or www.ifly/airport-security.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulates the transportation of hazardous materials aboard aircraft. Visit the FAA Web site for more passenger information concerning hazardous materials.
