  • MDT Airport Overview
Harrisburg International (MDT) Airport is located outside of the capital city of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with clearly-marked access to Interstates 83 and 283, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, State Route 230 and the Capital Beltway. Situated in central Pennsylvania, it is the first airport in the United States completely designed, built and opened since the September 11th tragedy--opened in 2004. The result is an easy-to-navigate airport that efficiently meets today’s strict security standards. The Y-shaped terminal building has information, ticketing and baggage claim on the first level, and security checkpoints, concessions, and 6 boarding gates (on either side) on the second level, with access to the garage via skybridge. Terminal amenities also include WiFi and internet kiosks and a Frequent Flyer Club. You can watch planes arrive and depart from the terminal’s third floor observation area which provides a view of nearly the entire 9,500 foot runway.

The Airport is presently served by six major airlines offering daily non-stop flights to 13 destinations, with connections around the world.

Harrisburg MDT airport also boasts an “inter-modal transportation facility" ("IMTF") - not to be mistaken for a mere parking garage! This four-story facility handles all forms of ground transportation. The top three levels provide 2,504 parking places for Short-Term (hourly and daily), and Long-Term parking. (The economy lot for long-term parking is at the end of Airport Drive.) The first level of the facility accommodates all limos, taxis, hotel shuttles, public and charter buses, plus the rental car ready/return lot. On the second floor of the lobby area, climate-controlled moving sidewalks connect to the aerial walkway leading directly into the terminal building. The first-floor lobby area houses six rental car counters, restrooms, flight, and bus information displays, and a seating area displaying regional tourism and vacation planning materials.

  • Main Terminal / Concourses at Harrisburg MDT Airport
    MDT Airport's terminal is state-of-the-art:

The Y-shaped terminal building has been specially designed to provide travelers with quick, easy access to all ticket counters, baggage claim areas, and all 12 departure gates.

Its high-efficiency security checkpoint at the center of the building can double in size to accommodate increases in traffic. From the security checkpoint, the longest walk to a departing gate is less than 500 feet.

Amenities at the terminal include diverse food and shopping concession choices at both pre- and post-security.

Frequent fliers - those logging 25,000 miles per year or more via any airline serving HIA - can take advantage of the Susquehanna Club - an airport-run frequent flier lounge. This "office-on-the-road" features work areas for use by individual travelers, a small meeting and conference room for up to 10 people, copier, fax machine, Internet access, newspapers, magazines, and television.

In addition, anyone with compatible WiFi equipment will find free Wireless Internet access throughout the terminal building.

An observation area on the third floor overlooks all of the A Concourse gates, half of the B Concourse gates, much of the aircraft apron, and nearly the entire 10,000-foot long runway. This observation area is located pre-security, allowing the general public to watch planes arrive and depart.
