Harrisburg MDT Airport Overview

Harrisburg International Airport MDT - also referred to as 'HIA' - opened in 2004, serves Central Pennsylvania and is the State's third-busiest airport..
The Airport is located in Lower Swatara Township and is 8 miles southeast of the central business district  of the capital city of Harrisburg, with clearly-marked access to Interstate Hwys. 83 and 283, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, SR 230 and the Capital Beltway.

With a long runway, and an estimated 2.6 million passengers in 2011, Harrisburg International Airport is served by major airlines offering daily non-stop flights to major hubs in the eastern part of the U.S. and to Toronto, Canada, with connections around the world. Seasonal flights are now availale to Denver via Frontier Airlines.

The Y-shaped passenger terminal at Harrisburg International has a sky bridge to the multi-modal transportation facility (MMTF). (For detailed terminal information, click on 'Terminal Map'.)

Rental car counters are located in the Ground Transportation Center - in the lobby of Level 1 - with rental car redy/return on the same level.

To get from Harrisburg Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take a taxi (Harrisburg City Cabs, tel. 717-948-5990), or a bus.

The four-level ground transportation center, referred to as Multi-Modal Transportation Facility, or MMTF, is attached to the terminal by a SkyBridge on its second level.
While its top three levels offer over 2,500 parking spaces, its first level houses all limos, taxis, hotel shuttles, public and charter buses, and the rental car ready/return lot. The first-level lobby area houses rental car counters, restrooms, flight & bus information displays, and a seating area.
1. The Capital Area Transit  Bus Route 7 serves downtown Harrisburg (tel. 717-238-8304 or visit Cattransit.com). Schedules are posted on the flight information display units in the baggage claim area and on the first level of MMTF.
2. Amtrak's Keystone line: The Airport is close to two Amtrak stations: (a) the Middletown Amtrak station (2 miles from the Airport,) and (b) the downtown Harrisburg Amtrak station (only 15 mins from the Airport). For schedules, etc. call 1-800-872-7245 or visit Amtrak.com.
