Monterey Peninsula MRY Airport Overview
Monterey Peninsula Airport MRY, a citizen-owned airport covering 598 acres, serves the Central Coast area of California.
The Monterey Peninsula is one of the greatest places where land, sea and sky meet. It is known as an ideal vacation and business destination, with hotel, bed-and-breakfast and motel accommodations for any budget and lifestyle. Of particular interest is Monterey's Convention Center, its famous Cannery Row, Monterey Bay Acquarium, Fishermen's Wharf, 17-mile drive, Laguna Seca Raceway and The National Steinbeck Center in Salinas. Monterey County is home to the Arts and Culture, offering first-rate art galleries, museums, theaters, wine estates, historic sites, guided tours and walks, whale watching and fishing, family adventure and last, not least, the spectacular scenery of the Salinas Valley, Pebble Beach, and Big Sur, which include the towns of Carmel Valley, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Marina, Pacific Grove, Salinas, Soledad, Monterey, Moss Landing and Seaside.
The Airport is located in the city of Monterey, on Monterey Bay, 5 miles SE from the business District, and is accessible from Hwy 1 south (take the Hwy 68 East exit), drive 1.5 miles on Hwy 68 and at the second light turn left on Olmsted Road; drive straight on to Airport one minute away.
With 2 parallel runways and 394,585 passengers in 2012, Monterey Peninsula Airport is served by a number of major airlines offering direct flights to U.S. hubs (at present to SFO, LAX, PHX, DEN, LAS & SAN) with connections around the world.
NOTE: American Eagle flights to/from LAX are now operated by Skywest!
The small passenger terminal at Monterey Peninsula Airport offers Boingo wireless internet access, and has a full-service restaurant - the Golden Tee, a Cafe, a snack bar, a gift shop/newsstand, and rental car desk for six rental car agencies. A large board room accommodating 45 persons can be rented by calling (831) 648-7000.
Parking options at Monterey Peninsula Airport include: Short-term parking at the Upper Lot, Premium Parking at the Lower Lot, and long-term parking, charged by hour or day. To get from Monterey Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take a taxi (Central Coast Taxi 831-626-3333) or the Monterey-Salinas Transit (831-899-2555) shuttle bus, which runs between Monterey and Salinas and connects to international airports in San Francisco and San Jose.
