Syracuse Hancock SYR Airport Overview
Syracuse Hancock International Airport SYR serves central New York State and its surrounding counties. It may be noted that during the winter months when snow averages 114 inches, its vast snow removal equipment, including the world's largest snowplow, allow the Airport to have fewer flight delays.
The Airport is located near Mattydale, 4.6 miles northeast of the city of Syracuse, in Onondaga County of central New York State, and is situated within three miles of intersecting Interstate Hwys 81 and 90 (the New York Throughway). There is also direct access from the Interstate Hwys to Airport parking, curbside driving lanes for quick drop off/pick up and curbside baggage check-in.
With two long runways Syracuse Hancock Airport is served by several major airlines offering nonstop flights to destinations in the U.S. and Canada, with connecting flights throughout the world.
The on-Airport Inn-Best Western (315-455-7362) is located within walking distance of the passenger terminal complex and has its own parking facility.
The passenger terminal complex at Syracuse Hancock International Airport has, under one roof, a South Terminals A and a North Terminal B - connected by a Main Concourse. (For detailed terminal information, click on 'Terminal Map'.)
Parking options at Syracuse Hancock Airport include a parking garage across from the main terminal, and an open parking lot right behind it. An Overflow lot is on Constellation Way N. Signs will direct you to short- and long-term parking, and a 13-foot LED sign at the exit booth will indicate highway construction delays & winter storm warnings.
Payment options: Dedicated lanes are available for cash, credit or Pay & Go:
With the new Pay & Go system, you have the option to pay by cash or credit card inside the terminal at one of five kiosks. Simply make your payment at the kiosk, get your receipt, use the marked Express exit lane, and you're on your way!
Or use the E-Z Pass Plus upgrade with separate E-Z Pass Plus dedicated lane (you still will need a ticket when entering or exiting.
Rental car counters for major agencies are located on level 1 of main lobby. Thrifty is an off-airport provider (tel. 1-80-847-4389) and offers shuttle service to their facility.
To get from Syracuse Hancock International to your destination, you can rent a car, take a taxi, a limo, or van shuttle:
Syracuse Regional Airport Taxi is the Airport's only company permitted to stage vehicles at the Airport and operate dispatch centers from the baggage claim area of the terminal. The company also offers shuttle vans. You can visit them at syracusetaxi.com or call 315- 437-5555. For any other ground transportation questions, contact the Department of Aviation at 315-454-3263.
Present & Future Airport Developments: While it is not yet clear when and if the planned extension of runway 10/28, and construction of a third runway, will become reality, the passenger terminal has started to undergo major renovation and will receive a 147,000 sq.feet extension between the concourses, as well as a new centralized TSA screening area, all expected to be completed by 2012. The project is to be funded by passenger facility charges, not by tax payers.
