YVR Airport Overview
Vancouver International (YVR) Airport is located approximately 15 kilometers (9 miles) from downtown Vancouver, on Sea Island in British Columbia, Canada. It is a large international airport served by numerous domestic and international airlines offering nonstop flights to Asia, Europe and Mexico plus a long list of destinations in Canada and the U.S.
The airport has three terminals: the recently renovated Domestic Terminal, the International Terminal and the South Terminal. Transfers are relatively easy between the first two connected terminals, but the South Terminal is a separate facility that serves as a regional hub for small aircraft, float planes, helicopter operations and corporate charters. The terminals showcase British Columbia’s rich wildlife and aboriginal culture including a piece titled Worlds: The Sea, The Land and The Sky that features colorful carvings of killer whales and other animals that is representative of the region’s aboriginal art.
Like most large Canadian airports, Vancouver International charges separate Airport Improvement Fees to passengers traveling within British Columbia or the Yukon, to passengers traveling to other North American destinations and to passengers traveling to destinations outside North America.
Canada's second-busiest airport is also the closest major West Coast airport to Asia - the emerging economic powerhouse. The Airport Authority's vision is to continue to develop YVR as a premier global gateway, connecting the Asia-Pacific region and the Americas. It has embarked on a 20-year Master Plan to achieve its gateway strategy and sustainability objectives.
