Cape Town CPT Airport Overview

Cape Town International Airport CPT is one of South Africa's three major airports, and is presently  Africa's third-largest airports. Its service ranks among the highest in the world, as evidenced by ACI's repeated global awards for both Best Airport and Best Improved Airport in Africa.  An ExecuJet facility is near the southern end of the main runway catering to business jets.

The Airport is located southeast of the Epping Industrial Center, and 22 km from the city center of Cape Town (called 'Mother City'), in South Africa, and is directly accessible via the N2 freeway (Settlers Way), exit 16, or indirectly from the R300 (Cape Flats Freeway) via M12, M10 & M22.

With 2 runways and an estimated 8.5 million passengers in 2012, the Airport is a hub for South African Airways and is served by a multitude of major and minor national and international airlines offering direct flights to destinations in Africa, Asia, Europe & the Americas, with connections around the world.

Passengers with Special Needs: (a) Contact  your airline 48 hours in advance for wheelchair assistance from check-in desks to aircraft & from aircraft to arrivals hall.  (b) Use hotline number +27 (0) 21 935 3737 to request a wheelchair from terminal to car outside. 

NOTE:  The 'Pick up & Go' area is on the ground level of the P1 Parkade.

On-Airport budget hotel 'Road Lodge' (owned by City Lodge hotel chain) is the only hotel on airport site.

Cape Town International Airport has three passenger terminals.

Parking options at Cape Town International: Two multi-storey parking garages ('Parkades 1 & 2') are located at either side of the Transport Plaza across from the terminal complex.
1. The five-storey Parkade 1 is opposite the International Terminal, and Parkade 2 is opposite the Domestic Terminal, and each parkade has a shaded parking area 1 & 2 behind it (with the rental car facility in the center). Parkade 2 includes a baggage wrap area, post office, police station, a mosque & a multi-faith room. Automatic payment machines are located on the ground floor of each parkade.  The Pick up & Go area is on level 1.
3. Valet service  (tel. +27 (0)86 48 2538) is available.  
3. Long-stay 'Shade P5' carpark is the newest addition.
 
The Consolidated Rental Car Facility is in front of the Transport Plaza and Central Terminal building, accessible via underground pedestrian walkways on either side of the building, and houses  major rental car agencies.

To get from Cape Town Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take a metered Touch Down Taxi (tel. +27 (0)21 919 4659), a private shuttle, or a bus: 
(a) Shuttles make runs to Cape Town & other destinations in the Western Cape. They run from the international inner lane; each of the following 3 services meets their passengers at the terminals' arrivals area: Noble Travel Tours - tel. 21 934 1810; City Hopper - tel. 21934 4448; Centurion Tours - tel. 21 934 8281.
(b) The MyCiTi bus rapid transit system (tel. 0-800 56 463) offers a shuttle bus every half hour between the Airport and the Civic Center bus station at Hertzog Blvd. in Cape Town's center, running every 20 minutes & taking half an hour.
