The passenger terminal complex at Cape Town International Airport consists of three terminals - the new Central Terminal, linking both the Domestic and the International terminals, and offering a common check-in area. Both Domestic & International terminals have their Departures on the upper levels and their Arrivals on the lower levels.  An elevated roadway system provides vehicle access to both Arrivals & Departures, while underground walkways (‘subways’) connect to the two parking garages.
Airports Company South Africa, the Airport operator, is continuously upgrading the Airport facilities and recently added more retail stores and moved the passport control area, considerably upgrading it.
- iHELP telephone stations assist passengers with inquiries and are located in Domestic and international departure & arrivals areas and in the two parking garages P1 & P12.
- The Consolidated Rental Car Facility is in front of the Transport Plaza and Central Terminal building, accessible via underground pedestrian walkways on either side of the building, and houses  major rental car agencies.
- The automated baggage handling system
can process 30,000 bags per hour. 

It is suggested that you arrive one hour prior to domestic flight departure, and three hours prior to international flight departure.


The Central Terminal Building has 120 check--in desks and 20 self-service kiosks.  After check-in, passengers pass through a consolidated security checkpoint.  Only after passing security will passenger head into different directions:
    Domestic passengers will head southward to the Domestic Terminal, while
    International passengers will head northwards to the International Terminal containing immigration facilities.
Five airbridges each serve domestic and international flights. Lower domestic & international terminal levels use buses to the automated baggage handling system. Retail shops & restaurants are on the upper level above departures, including the very large Spur restaurant. A viewing deck is on the upper level.
    The Lower Level is the Arrivals level.  At each side of the transport plaza are entrances leading to:
- the right to domestic arrivals and bus boarding gates for domestic departures, and
- the left to international & regional arrivals and to international bus boarding gates.
International Arrivals includes the arrivals hall, passport control, baggage carousels, customs, & meeting areas, while International Departures include VAT refunds, check-in areas, security screening, passport check, boarding area.
Domestic Arrivals includes baggage carousels and meeting area, while Domestic Departures have check-in area, security screening & boarding gates. Food & drink, as well as shops, a pharmacy banks with currency exchange & ATM machines are available throughout the ground level.
    The upper level is the Departures level - accessible via elevated roadway - and offers:
- to domestic departing passengers check-in facilities, security screening & boarding gates; and
- to international departing passengers VAT refunds, check-in facilities, security screening, passport check and boarding area.
Food & drink, as well as a few shops, are available in both domestic and international boarding areas.
    Level 3 only houses a food court.
NOTE: As of year-end 2015, common-use SITA self-service check-in kiosks were installed in all of South Africa's main airports.

In the domestic terminal:
  - South African Airways Lounge, tel. 936 2245;
  - British Airways Lounge  tel. 936 2592;
  - Premier Lounge (tel. 936-3014 – accessible to all pay-per-visit passengers); and
  - VIP room operated by the Dept. of Foreign Affairs, is adjacent to domestic terminal’s north side (tel. 937-1233.
In the international terminal:
  - South African Airways PremiumLounges (tel. 936 2245);
  - British Airways Terrace Lounge for is also available to omair passengers (tel. 936-2592);
  - Two Premier Lounges (tel. 936 2127//8 open to pay-per-visit passengers.
