  • DTW Airport Overview
Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County DTW Airport (or short 'Metro Airport') is located approximately 20 miles outside of the City of Detroit, Michigan, and is situated close to Interstate 94 and Hwy 275. The Airport is one of the newest and most efficient airports in North America, and offers two new passenger terminals with 145 gates, six jet runways and two modern inspection service facilities for international arrivals. With over 35 million passengers each year, Metro Airport is one of the busiest airport in the U.S. and ranks among the largest air transportation hubs in the world. It is also Delta's second-largest hub and its primary gateway to Asia. DTW also serves as the SkyTeam Alliance's major mid-western hub and is a major operations base for low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines. At present, its ten domestic and four international airlines serve more than 160 non-stop destinations around the world.

Metro Airport's two terminals, the McNamara and the North Terminal, offer an award-winning concessions program with services for every taste and budget, from shops to restaurants. Wi-Fi access is available throughout the terminal complex. The MacNamara Terminal also houses the Westin Hotel (734-942-6500) with pool, spa, and 34 meeting and boardrooms, and a well-equipped business center. The McNamara Terminal offers restaurants/bars and shops in its main terminal and Concourse A. Concourses B & C offer food & beverage only. The North Terminal offers restaurants/bar and shops. Both terminals offer ATM machines, foreign currency exchange, shoeshine, vending machines and telephones.

If you need to pick up a passenger from the Airport, use the free Cell Phone Waiting Lot--stay with your car until your party calls you to be picked up at the curb. Parking is available at the McNamara and at the North Terminal vicinity. (a) The McNamara parking garage with 11,500 spaces offers Short- and Long-term, as well as Valet parking. Luggage check-in service and E-Ticket kiosks are on level 6. An enclosed pedestrian bridge connects the garage and the terminal on level 6 of the garage. (b) The North Terminal parking garage with 6,500 spaces offers Short- & Long-term parking in the Big Blue Deck, and Long-term parking in the Yellow and Green Lots. For current parking status call 800-642-1978. The '1,2,3 Park' automated entry/exit system is now available to everyone at the Yellow and Green Lots, Blue Deck and Short-Term parking areas, and will be coming soon to the airport's McNamara Terminal Parking Garage. This is how it works: simply insert your credit/debit card into the card reader at the lot entrance; then park; upon exiting the parking facility, just insert the same credit/debit card. The '1,2,3 Park' system computes your charges based upon your length of stay, charges your card, prints a receipt, and you're on your way.

To get from the Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take the Metro Airport Taxi, or use one of the SMART buses to the City and its surrounding counties of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb. SMART (Tel: 866-962-5515) offers choices of fixed-route buses, curb-to-curb 'Connector' mini-buses, and the 'Community Transit' vans. Ground transportation services (taxis, hotel shuttles, rental cars, etc.) are located in the Ground Transportation Center on Level 4 of the McNamara parking garage.
