  • SBA Airport Overview
Santa Barbara Airport SBA is located within city limits of the beautiful west-coast city of Santa Barbara, California, right off Hwy. 101, and 92 miles northwest of Los Angeles. SBA Airport has been serving California's south coast and its tri-state area since 1936. Its present airline terminal was constructed in 1942 and additions were made both in 1967 and 1976. Passenger volume has increased to 820,000 by 2007 and the need for a new Airline Terminal became obvious.

SBA Airport is served by major airlines serving many hub airports throughout the US, with world-wide connections. During the construction period, a volunteer ambassador-staffed kiosk will be a much-needed point for directions around the Airport. Also in front of the Airport is a parking pay station. The present passenger terminal offers free Wi-Wi access. Short-term parking is right next to the terminal, connected by a walkway. Adjacent thereto is the Long-term paking lot, accessible off James Fowler Road, with an additional long-term lot on Hollister/Lopez Roads, with free shuttle service. To get to town and beyond you have the choice of renting a car, taking a taxi or door-to-door shuttle, or the Santa Barbara MTA bus 11, which runs betwen the airport and downtown Santa Barbara--the bus stop is on Moffett Road across from the terminal.

The present expansion project's goal is to improve the Santa Barbara passenger terminal area to meet current and future passenger demand. A new Airline Terminal is to be built in the same mission-style as its present and historic terminal. SBA Airport has started Phase 1 with the groundbreaking of the new Terminal. This project, along with a new short-term parking lot and new loop road, should run into Spring 2011. Between Spring 2011 and Winter 2012 should be the Grand opening of the new terminal and associated improvements. Also, the existing historic terminal should be reburbished and relocated some time in 2011.
