Will Rogers World Airport (OKC) located in southwest Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is a medium-sized airport that is serviced by many major airlines and several regional jet services. Southwest offers the most daily nonstop flights including service to some major U.S. hubs with worldwide connections. The airport is named after Oklahoma native, Will Rogers, who could be called one of the original frequent fliers due to his constant travels during his career as a down-home comedian and commentator on American life.
A new passenger terminal was completed in 2006 and its architecture is simply dazzling: The combination of native stone and plate glass presents an aesthetic achievement and represents Oklahoma at its finest—a statement of modern technology and achievement with beautiful natural materials, grand geological features and broad, open sky. Even the new landscape materials are native grasses and trees, laid out in an intricate but informal design. Entry and exit traffic circles permit efficient passenger pickup and drop-off, even at peak travel periods. The beautiful plaza garden is a welcome scene for visitors offering fresh air and relaxation. Visitors can also view a heroic-size statue of Will Rogers, rope in hand, on his favorite horse, Teddy. The tunnel from the parking garage to the terminal provides a well-lit, safe, all-weather walkway with convenient people-moving walks and ramps and opens to the all-new central escalator core. In the new Will Rogers terminal, most retail merchants are now located inside security checkpoints, allowing passengers to arrive early, go through check-in and security procedures and still have time to eat and shop while waiting for boarding.
To access the plaza, go to the baggage claim level on Level 1 and exit the building. Take the walkway to the transportation plaza. Rental car counters are located inside on the baggage claim level on level 1. Once you have checked in at the counter, pick up your car by exiting the building and taking the walkway to the parking garage. Rental car parking is located on level one. For passenger drop-off: use the upper roadway in front of the terminal building. Airlines providing curbside check-in are also located there.
For passenger pick-up, use the cell phone lot until your party--after collecting luggage--calls you, then proceed to baggage claim level 1 in front of the building.
You have many parking choices--the cell phone lot, hourly parking, semi-covered parking garage parking and long-term (Economy) parking. To get to the five-level and hourly parking garages take the underground walkway. The walkway has moving sidewalks and is climate-controlled. To access the walkway, use the elevator or escalators located in the center of the ticket or bag claim lobbies. The parking shuttle bus and all public transportation is located at the ground transportation plaza.
To get to the City, you can take either public vans which meet all scheduled flights, or the Oklahoma City Metro Transit, which provides daily bus service with a route that services the Meridian Avenue corridor and connects to downtown Oklahoma City. The bus stop is at the Transportation Plaza, accessed from the baggage claim level of the terminal.
Future Changes at OKC Airport: Its outdated five-story parking garage will be demolished and replaced by a new one. To compensate for the temporary loss of indoor parking spaces during construction, there is a new outdoor lot to the north of existing long-term parking lots.
