On the lower /arrivals level are the A & B baggage belts, on the upper level are the A & B ticket counters - with separate security check leading to A & B gates.  Both gate areas A & B offer a variety of food & drink & retail concessions.

San Antonio Airport now offers Global Entry kiosks (for more information visit: GlobalEntry.gov.)  It also uses security lane avatars.

Terminal A with gates A1-A17 is currentlly served by Aeromexico, AirTran, Alaska, Delta, Interjet, Southwest, US Airways & Volaris.
It houses on the ground level Customs & Immigration, baggage belts, Information Booth and airline baggage service office, and on the upper level ticket counters and a few amenities & services, with security checkpoint leading to the A gates 1 to 17.
Phase One of Terminal A's rehabilitation has been completed: The Baggage Claim has new flooring & lighting, escalators & elevators were replaced, security checkpoint's queuing area upgraded, some restaurants were replaced, and glass & stainless-steel portals at concessions added.  Various other works were going on behind a temporary wall during rehab.  New Avatars with the likeness of a person have been installed to facilitate security lines.
NOTE that as of October 2014, gates have been renumbered:
After security check, to the left are Southwest gates A11 & A13; and US Airways Gates A15 & A17; Across from those gates are Southwest gates A10-A16 - with Southwest gate A9 & Aeromexico gate A7 in the center and - to the right - Volaris gate A6, Alaska gate A5, and Delta gates A1-A3.
