Hello, I'll be flying from London ON to Las Vegas via Toronto with United (operated by Air Canada Express). Will I need to collect my bags in Toronto and re-check them for the flight to Las Vegas? Also the same on the return but with WestJet. All flights are on the same itinerary Thank you,

Yes, in Toronto on your way to Las Vegas you will go to US Immigration and Customs preclearance where your bags will be waiting for you. On Your return you will have to claim your bags in Toronto to go through Canadian immigration and Customs.

  • Transit time

Good afternoon, I booked a flight with Scandinavian from Amsterdam (layover in Copenhagen) arriving on the 5th of May at 15:00 in Dulles terminal 3. I have booked a separate ticket with United (mesa operating as United Express) to Austin departing at 17:20. How does the process work, I have to go through pasport control first, then pick up luggage, through customs, take the train to different terminal (which terminal is Mesa? and how long is the train ride) and then check in the luggage again? Do you think I have enough time for the transit? I am very scared I won't, hope someone could inform me., Thanks!

Dulles only has one terminal. You will arrive and be brought to the International Arrivals building where you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs. Then you will take your bags to the United check-in desk in the adjacent main terminal building and check them with United, then go through security and take the Aerotrain or mobile lounge to your departure gate in the C/D concourse. I think you will have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Thank you so much for your answer and explanation. I really appreciate it!

we are flying air newzealand from Perth au to Houston we arrive at 12.49pm on sunday 24th april we need to book a flight to Panama there is one departing at 3.35 will that be enough time to go through immigration and get baggage or should we do a stop over and whats the cheapest best direct flight. thanks a million

The 3:35 PM flight would probably work. Although a Stopover wouldn't be a bad idea, just to get some rest.

Hi Arriving in Terminal E on an international flight tonight with my 2 year old, and a buggy and 2 bags. Are there porters or Logan Airport staff at baggage claim who can help us get out to meet the taxi? Thanks!

No, porters are not allowed in the International baggage claim.

  • connecting internationally from Amsterdam

I may arrive to Miami from Amsterdam with AA in june.. via technical landing in Philly. European citizen, and i will connect to Barranquilla (Colombia) the next day. Also with AA, do i need to claim baggage for the night? do i need to pass security when connecting internationally? and how complicated will that be?

In Philadelphia you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through Us Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security, and to your departure gate. In Miami all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

    Thanks for claryfying answer

  • Layover and transfer

We are flying into Charlotte and have a 12 hour layover to and from our flight to Aruba. Will my luggage just transfer to the next plane? How about on the way back with customs. What is the procedure for a layover after customs check. Can I recheck bags at customs or will I have to go through the whole process on the next day flight?

Both times you will likely have to re-check your bag in the morning.

  • Re-check bag in Miami?
    Mar 31, 2016

I am traveling from Nicaragua to Washington, DC, via Miami. In Miami do I need to collect my bag & re-check it? I have heard both answers so I want to clarify.

Yes, when you arrive to the USA, from any country, you have to go through Immigration, then claim your bags and go through Customs. After that you are basically on the street out of the safe zone, so you have to recheck your bags. Some airlines will take them right away out of Customs, some other airline require you to go back to the checkin counter. Exception: Canada, you do immigration and customs at the Canadian airport so you arrive domestic to the USA

  • Into T6 from Canada to TBIT for connection to Brisbane
    Mar 28, 2016

I have Qantas Airways 3246 - Operated by American Airlines flight from Toronto to LAX then transfer from T6 to TBIT for Qantas Airways 16 flight to Brisbane -- Do I have to pick up my luggage and check it again going into TBIT? Or will it get transferred to the next flight? I hope 2hr 15mins is enough to grab bags and get through to connect to the next flight. I booked these both at the same time.

Your bags will be transferred for you. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do is walk from T4 or T6 where you arrive to the International Terminal and go through security. You should have enough time.

I forgot, now you can use the new T4-TBIT Connector to get to the International Terminal from T4 without having to go through security!

Thanks! Best news I had all day!

  • Air France baggage size question
    Mar 27, 2016

I will be flying Delta from Atlanta to CDG, then taking Air France to Venice. I am trying to only do carry on. Delta is 45 inch and no weight limit, and Air France is 43 inch and 26 lb total limit. This will be on one ticket. Will Air France allow the larger bag and weight since the flight from Atlanta was the longer flight? One Delta agent told me whichever Airline has the longest flight is the one you go by, and another one told me I had to follow each airline's rules.

Yes, I've never seen a carry-on get weighed and it's unlikely they'd say anything to you in Paris as long as the bag fits. Worst case it gets gate checked to Venice for free.

  • International travel from BOM to LHR to DFW to Portland

Traveling from Mumbai to London to Dallas to Portland airport. I am Indian citizen traveling with wheel chair assistance. Question is if my checked in baggage will be through checked in to Portland, Oregon or I need to take out and re-checkin on Dallas airport?

In DFW you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

I believe a folding wheelchair checked as regular checked baggage is considered just a normal piece of checked baggage.

My wife is flying in from nashville to jfk at 1:56pm and leaves for Russia at 3:35 pm. Is that enough time to get to her flight on time??

Does she have checked bags? Are the two flights on the same reservation or two separate ones? If she has two separate reservations and checked bags, I don't think it is possible.

They are two separate reservations and yes she has checked bags but is there any ways that she can get the bags automatically transferred to the other flight without her having to recheck them in?

AA and Aeroflot do have an interline agreement, but since she purchased two separate tickets they are not obligated to check her bags through. I highly recommend against trying this connection.

  • TPE-FCO-CTA connecting flight

Hi, I'll be arriving at FCO (Terminal 3) on Jul. 29, at 13:25pm, and then get on the other flight to CTA on Alitalia (depart at 16:45pm from Terminal 1 I suppose). Is that enough time? The first flight is from TPE-FCO via Emirates, I am thinking of having my registered baggage delivered directly from TPE to CTA, is that possible? Or I must collect my luggage in Rome and recheck it? I will also have hand baggage, do I need to recheck before boarding on Alitalia? Or I can go through from T3 to departure gate. Grazie!

Are the two tickets on separate reservations? If so Emirates is not obligated to check your bags through to CTA.

I booked separately. But Emirates told me that Alitalia is one of their interline partners, so I can check my baggage through to the final destination even if that is outside their network. If that's the fact, then does that mean I only need to print out my boarding pass at Alitalia counter, and go to departure gate? I suppose I can check in when I land at CTA, right? Grazie mille!

I am flying from YVR to DEN to IAH to AEP all on United. I am curious if there is a way to track luggage along the route to make sure it gets transferred so it arrives at the final destination with me Thank you

United does not have live baggage tracking.
