  • 55 minute connection time
    Feb 27, 2015

I'm flying from Santa Barbara to NY next week, and my connection is in PHX and I have 55 minutes connection time. I am flying with US airways express-skywest from SB to PHX, and with US airways from PHX to NY. Both in terminal 4 in PHX. If I choose to check in one bag in SB, do I have to re-check the bag in PHX? Or will it automatically be transferred from my SB flight to NY flight in PHX? Thank you.

You will not have to do anything with your bag in PHX. Just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Do we have to collect our bags and go back through security to get to our flight or can the bags been sent through from our original destination? We have about 3 hrs time between the two flights. Thank You.

  • My baggage with UA1151 connection CA996 is missing

I was put on AA187 from Chicago directly to Beijing but my baggage was sent to Houston with UA1151, then it is missing. I think the baggage should have been on CA996 and then removed. Where has it gone?

I don't know how your baggage got put on the wrong airline. How do you know it was put on UA1151? Was your United flight cancelled and then you were initially rebooked through Houston but later rebooked on the AA Nonstop to Beijing? If so you probably need to contact the United baggage office. It is probably in Houston and was not boarded on the Air China flight because you weren't on the passenger manifest.

Thanks. I contacted United baggage service and was told that my baggage is in Houston now so I guess it must have been on US1151 from Chicago to Houston but I was asked to file a claim to AA, which I already did 36 hours ago. But AA still cannot locate the baggage.

That's a long story. I first booked UA851 from Chicago, which I missed due to mechanical inspection of previous flight UA1626 from ALB to Chicago, so I was rerouted on UA1151 and CA996 but when I arrive in Chicago, UA customer service managed to put me on AA187 which is a direct flight from Chicago to Beijing. I was on AA187 and arrived in Beijing but just found my baggage did not arrive with AA187.

i am flying Dublin to vegas with a lay over of 55 mins in jfk flying wih delta ... go through emergration in Dublin Ireland ,,, do I need to take my baggage off and re heck in as only hav 55 mins PLEASE HELP

All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All Delta gates at JFK are connected inside security. If your first flight is on-time you should have enough time.

Wud these be close to each other

we'll be flying from Edmonton to Singapore, with a stop in Seattle and Tokyo. All the flights will be operated by Delta Airlines. Do we need to claim our baggage in Seattle and re-check it in again?

No, you will not. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Edmonton.

I am flying from Little Rock to Montego Bay with a layover in Houston. Will I need to re-check my luggage and go back through security?

No you will not. There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. You just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security.

I am arriving to IAH on an aircanada flight from YWG via YYZ. I know I clear customs in YYZ. I have a different reservation on united airlines from IAH to MFE 2 hrs after my arrival to IAH. Do I have to collect my bags and go back through security to get to my flight or can my bags been sent through from my original destination? If I do have to go back through will I have enough time?

You can show the Air Canada agent in Winnipeg if your bags can be checked through to McAllen by showing your confirmation. However, if you do not get your bag checked through to McAllen you should still have enough time to claim and re-check it in Houston.

  • checking in luggage at a stopover airport

I am a Canadian passport holder flying San Jose to Calgary with a stopover at Ohare, Chicago. My journey has two flights SanJose to Chicago and then Chicago to Calgary. Both flights are on United Airlines and there is 2 & 1/2 hours between the two flights at Chicago. I just have cabin baggage from SanJose. However my mother would like to give me one piece of luggage at Chicago with my clothing for Calgary. My questions 1. How do I best deal with this situation at O Hare airport. 2. Am I even allowed to check in a baggage midway between my journey.. I am confused because I have not got satisfactory answers from the Cx serv call centers either. Thank You

You are not allowed to check additional baggage mid-way though your journey. You check your bag in San Jose and then have your mother pack your bags in something small enough to carry-on in Chicago. Otherwise she should just ship it.

even if the first flight is till Chicago and the second one is from Chicago ??? One more question ..Is there a terminal change involved for United flights within US and US-Canada. Where is the best place for my mum to wait for me. Thank You

I'm coming from Norfolk Virginia going to Newark by United Express and then going Narita by United. Do I have to claim my baggage and check-in again.

No you do not, there us no US Customs when leaving the US. You just have to go from your arrival gate, which will likely be in Terminal A to your departure gate in Terminal C. A shuttle bus connects Terminal A and C inside security.

  • Munich to IAH to Las Vegas

We land at IAH at 2:20pm Friday and the Las Vegas flight leaves at 3:37 pm. Any tips to ensure we make our second leg. Will we have to recheck our bags? Is this an easy connection?

That connection is 13 minutes below the minimum connection time for such a connection. Yes, you will have to claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check them at the transfer desk. No, because of the time allowed that is a difficult connection. There should be later flight to Las Vegas if you miss your connection, but as you may know, Las Vegas is a very popular destination and many of the flights there have no available seats on the day of departure.

I bought seperate tickets to arrive New Orleans. I am landing at 18:20 in Houston with Turkish airlines and depart for New Orleans with united airlines at 21:00. Do you think that from 18:20 to 21:00 , the time will be enough to take luggage and check in.

Yes, I think that should be enough time. Since both Turkish and United are in Star Alliance you may be able to show your United confirmation to the Turkish agent in your origin and ask to have your bags checked-through to New Orleans. However, you will still have to claim your bags to go through US Customs, but you will be able to re-check your bags at the transfer desk immediately after customs vs. having to take them to the check-in counter.

Thank you very much for great help. I asked Turkish airlines to have my bags checked-through to New Orleans. I was told that they can not do it unless I buy my ticket from certain selling points. Do I still have enough time(from 18:20 to 21:00), if I get my luggage and check -in myself?

I think you will still have enough time. Worst case you will be out of customs at around 19:30. That still leaves you 90 minutes before your flight or 45 minutes to check your bags at the United counter.

  • Almost 24 hours to spare in Newark

Hi. In 6 days from now I will travel from Ottawa to Costa Rica, via Newark. In Newark I have almost 24 hours until my flight leaves. I therefore have a few questions: - Is it possible to leave the airport during this time? - Will my baggage be transferred automatically? - Is it easy to get to and from New York? - Are there any hotels nearby? - Flight leaves from Newark 07:15am. How early should I be back at the airport minimum? Thank you!

Yes, you can leave the airport. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Ottawa and can go wherever you want upon arrival. Due to the lenght of your transfer you WILL have to claim your baggage upon arrival in Newark. There are many hotels near the Newark Airport. I think you should get to the airport at around 5:45 AM for your flight to Costa Rica.

    Okay. Thank you very much!

Hello! This is my first time travelling by myself. I'm travelling from Houston (IAH) to Philippines (MNL) with 1 Layover at Beijing, China (PEK) for "15 Hours". Do I need to collect my baggages and recheck in Beijing (PEK) again?

You will have to ask your airline. It may depend on whether your connection is "overnight" or not.

Thanks for the response! I will arrive at 5am in Beijing and will leave at 8pm on the way to Philippines.
