I will be flying to Ord from Calgary Canada. I will pre-clear us customs and immigration in Calgary, but arrival gate is still in terminal 5. Will I have to go thru customs again?
I'm guessing you're flying Westjet? Yes, they use Terminal 5 now. You won't have to go through Immigration or Customs in Chicago, they will let you out on the upper level and if you have checked bags you will claim them at the domestic baggage claim (Terminal 5 does have one - it is also used by the Etihad flight). Westjet moved to Terminal 5 this summer as they no longer fly to Chicago year-round.
On Aug. 11 I'm flying Air France from Rome to ATL, arriving at 5:32pm. My connection to LAX via Air France departs at 7:02pm. Will I have to clear customs at ATL before going to LAX flight? If so, is 90 minutes enough time?
Air France does not fly from Rome to Atlanta or Atlanta to LAX. Both flights will be operated by Delta. Yes, in Atlanta, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security, and take the Plane Train to your departure gate. You have barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.
Thanks for the thorough response. Much appreciated. We don't plan to check any bags on this trip. Will that significantly improve our chances of making the LAX flight?
Good afternoon, I have friends coming from Italy, that will transit in Amsterdam. As they have 5 hours before taking the other airplane, I want to meet them for 2 hours in the "Arrivals" area. Is this possible? Are they allowed to exit the transit area? Thank you very much for a quick answer (they are coming monday).
It depends on their citizenship. If they are EU nationals then yes they can do this. for other nationalities it may be more of an issue.
If I go to MCO via JFK. Do I go through immigration in JFK or MCO ?
If you are flying from outside the US, you will go through US Immigration and customs at your first point of entry, which in this case would be JFK, unless your origin has preclearance (some airports in Canada, Ireland, the Caribbean, and Abu Dhabi).
