Austrian Airlines Pet Policy

Passengers who are traveling with pets should inform Austrian Airlines at the time of booking. Small cats and dogs are welcome in the cabin on Austrian Airlines flights if the combined weight with carrier does not exceed 17 lbs (8 kg). The pet fee varies depending on the flight destination, ranging from 50 EUR for domestic flights to 110 EUR for long intercontinental flights within Europe. For intercontinental flights, the fee is 80 EUR for short distance, 100 EUR for medium distance, and 110 EUR for long distance.

If your pet exceeds the weight limit to travel in the cabin, Austrian Airlines allows pets to be transported as checked baggage instead. The fees for medium carriers, with dimensions of 31" H x 21" W x 21" D (80 cm x 55 cm x 55 cm), range from 80 EUR for domestic flights to 190 EUR for long intercontinental flights. For large carriers exceeding the medium dimensions, the fees are 160 EUR for domestic flights and 380 EUR for long intercontinental flights.

For pets in the cabin, carriers must not exceed maximum dimensions of 21" x 15" x 9" (55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm). Carriers must be soft, bite-and leak-proof, smell-proof, have proper ventilation, and be large enough for your pet to fit comfortably. For pets in the hold, carriers are considered medium if their dimensions are less than 31" x 21" x 21" (80 cm x 55 cm x 55 cm) or large if they exceed these dimensions. Carriers transporting animals as checked baggage must be large enough for them to stand with their head extended and have enough space for them to move around comfortably. Additionally, carriers must be hard, leak and escape-proof, and contain water and food bowls connected to the inside.
