TAROM Pet Policy

TAROM warmly welcomes pets on board, however, this is subject to approval and acceptance of certain conditions. Pet reservation is essential and the type of aircraft can limit the number of pets allowed. Specifically, ATR 42 allows a maximum of 2 pet cages, B737 and A318 accommodate up to 3 cages. The hold also imposes restrictions on pet numbers per passenger. While ATR 42/72 aircraft allow only 1 pet per passenger, all Boeing aircraft permit 2 pets per passenger, provided they are in separate carriers. Due to these limitations, it's essential to secure a spot for your pet as soon as your travel plans are firmed up. You can contact the Customer Service Team at 973-884-3254 for assistance.

Small dogs and cats are welcomed in the cabin on select TAROM flights. The pets brought into the cabin must be clean, healthy, and their combined weight with their carrier should not exceed 11 lbs (5 kg). The transportation cost for pets varies based on the destination: domestic flights charge 25 EUR, European and Middle Eastern flights 50 EUR, and all other international destinations cost 100 EUR.

Pets exceeding the cabin's weight limit can be transported in the hold instead, up to a maximum combined weight of 165 lbs (75 kg). Similar health and cleanliness standards apply to pets travelling in the hold. In specific cases, animals from the same litter or adult animals accustomed to cohabitation can be shipped in the same carrier. The charges for pet transportation in the hold vary based on the destination: 50 EUR for domestic flights, 100 EUR for European and Middle Eastern flights, and 200 EUR for other international flights.

Guidance, Tips, & info on Airlines and Airports

For animals and carriers that exceed the 165 lbs (75 kg) limit, TAROM provides a cargo shipment option. For more details, you can contact the Cargo Department at (+40) 21-201-3409. The carrier size for pets also varies depending on the aircraft and location of transport. For cabin transportation, carriers should not exceed 16" x 10" x 8" dimensions and should be an IATA standard cage or a soft, waterproof carrier. For hold transportation, the maximum dimensions depend on the aircraft model.

There are also certain restrictions and limitations to be aware of. Notably, emotional support or psychiatric service dogs are not allowed on TAROM flights. Also, it's important to ensure your pet's carrier is sturdy, meets international regulations, and provides adequate ventilation for your pet.

Keep in mind that air carriers can change these policies at any time, so you should always check directly with TAROM before you book, for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
